Joyeux Noel | Day 5 of 25 Days of Christmas

by Sara Sherlock on Nov 30 2021
Hello!  It's Sara, from Much Love, Sara. Welcome to day 5 of our 25 Days of Christmas Inspiration!  I don't know about you, but even with the bulk of my Christmas cards sent, I often find myself making "just one more card" right up until Christmas.  There's always a stamp set I can't pass up, or want to reuse.  And, if I don't need the card to send, it gets me a little ahead for the next year.  Today, I'm sharing a card, that came about because I really wanted to color the Holly Jolly Christmas stamp again.

Holly Jolly Mercury Glass Technique with Rachelle

by Rachelle Oltean on Nov 27 2021

Hello and welcome to Picket Fence Studios' "25 Days of Christmas"! It's Rachelle here today with some crafting inspiration and I'd like to share a new technique with you that mimics the look of mercury glass! I was experimenting with the Paper Glaze Enhancer in combination with some of the Paper Glitz colors and while you should NOT mix Glitz & Enhancer together into a single blended product, I did try using them separately on top of each other and came up with something that really resembles one of my favorite finishes - antique mercury glass. The Paper Glaze Enhancer is a soft, matte lightweight paste (resembling spackling compound in texture) and dries to a semi-transparent dull finish when used on its own. I though that I might be able to accent some areas by applying "Sparkle" Paper Glitz on top of the stenciled areas and when it was all dry, some of the areas of the Paper Glitz highlighted the Enhancer and some of it seemed to melt into the kraft background with a mirror effect! The photo can't quite capture it but believe me this looks so cool in real life! I just applied a thin coat of each product using the Slim Line "Changes" Stencil and set it aside to dry. It was trimmed down to 3.75" x 5" and adhered to a top-folding A2 card base. The leaf and berry cluster from the "Holly Jolly Christmas" Stamp Set was stamped/heat embossed with clear powder, watercolored and die cut. The wonderful sentiment from the "Winter Has Come To Town" Stamp Set was heat embossed and die cut.  I looped some silver thread into a bunch, taped it together and adhered it to the stenciled panel. The holly image was popped up with foam tape and the sentiment strip was glued into place. I added pink and matte gold sequins (from The Pink Lady Sequins Mix) to finish up the card. I hope you'll give this look a try and I'd love to see you share what you come up with over on the Picket Fence Studios' Community Facebook Page!  Thanks so much for stopping by today and take care - Rachelle

Holly Jolly Christmas

Hey cardmaking friends and welcome back.  It's Sandi MacIver here and today I have A Holly Jolly Christmas Card to share with you created with fun products from Picket Fence Studios. In creating this card, I've added a smooth silky textured background for interest and depth.  Paper Glaze and Paper Glitz are used in white which is striking but doesn't take away from the pretty holly art piece.  The gold mirror sentiment adds just the perfect amount of bling to the card.   How to create the A Holly Christmas Card. Start with a 3-7/8 x 5-1/8 piece of Hammermill White Cardstock.  Place the Triple Weave Stencil over it and add Snowdrop White Paper Glaze through it with a spatula, going up about 3/4 of the way. Next, cover a another piece of white cardstock 4-1/4 x 5-1/2, with a thin coat of Paper Glitz Sparkle and set that aside to dry. Using a Misti, stamp the Holly Jolly Christmas Stamp in copic friendly  Black ink and color with copic markers.  Cut it out with the coordinating die. COPICS USED: Green:  BG11, BG34, G19, G28 Pinks:  RV34, RV17, RV19 RV69 For the Sentiment: Use the Merry Christmas Word Topper Die over a piece of Mirror Gold card stock. Next, once the Paper Glaze is dry, glue the word topper across the bottom of the card front.  Flip it over and trim the ends before security it to a 4 x 5-1/4 piece of Spellbinders Blue Spruce cardstock. Finally, trim to fit and then add the piece to a top folding A2 sized white card base. Die Cutting the Snowflake On the piece of cardstock with the Paper Glitz Sparkle, add the Snowflake Alice and die cut it out.  Cut two more in white cardstock. Next, use the fine tip on the Bearly Art Glue to glue the snowflakes together with the shiny one on top and then glue it to the top of the card. Finally, add the Holly piece with foam squares and you are done.            used for the Picket Fence Studios A Holly Christmas Card: Here are the products I used today.  Compensated affiliate links used  where available at no cost to you. Iconic Beauty Kiara - Masked Ink Blending with Rachelle

by Rachelle Oltean on Nov 24 2021
Hello everyone! It's Rachelle with you today and I've got some ink blending & masking tips for you! I created several masks, which I used to color in this NEW "Iconic Beauty Kiara" image and it's all done with the small, fine "Life Changing Blender Brushes" and Distress Oxide Inks! I first inked up the "Kiara" image on a piece of scrap paper using my MISTI to create my main template. I then drew in the basic shape of her face and some of the main shadow plains/contours to get an idea how I was going to shape her face. After I was happy with the sketch, I copied this onto a piece of tracing paper, redrew the lines on the backside and then transferred the images onto different pieces of paper. I needed these images: 1) a full mask for the entire figure 2) the face 3) the shirt. Here's a picture of what these masks looked like: I hand cut omits for the face & shirt using my craft knife and fussy cut the full-image mask using small scissors. I stamped the Kiara image onto an A2 panel and placed the full-image mask on top. I used Salty Ocean as an overall background color and then ink blended Prize Ribbon and Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxide Inks through the "Flowers" Stencil to create my background pattern. The shirt was blended using one of the small round brushes with "Kitsch Flamingo" DOI and then I colored the face with several additional Distress Oxide Inks. I did paint a very fine line of eye shadow ("Salty Ocean") along her lid line but that was the only brushwork on this piece. To deepen the image post ink blending, I placed her back into my MISTI and re-stamped to sharpen the edges. That's a real advantage when using a MISTI! I trimmed the image down to 4" x 5.25" and adhered it to a top-folding A2 card front. The heat-embossed sentiment strip was glued to the top panel and I added a couple of gems from the NEW "Celebration Gem Mix" to finish up the card. She is such a beautiful image and I love how all of the Design Team Members found different ways/techniques to color her! Be sure to head over the Picket Fence Studios Shop to check out all of the AMAZING Black Friday Deals and Door Busters taking place right now! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Rachelle

Happy Birthday Aquarius Girl with Erica

by Erica Andersson-Burke on Nov 23 2021
Hi guys! It’s Erica back on the Picket Fence Studios blog and today I have a blog post AND a video! Oh yes, so make sure to check out the Picket Fence Studios YouTube channel as well.  First of I have stamped the Aquarius Girl on Copic friendly paper, with the Black Hybrid ink, with the help of my Mini MISTI. I have used greys and blues for the colouring, to give her a mermaid/ethereal look. In the video I go through my colouring process, and how to achieve a more 3D look on faces.  With the colouring done, I used the coordinating diecut to cut her out, as well as another three layers. These have been layered up with liquid adhesive and then I set this aside.  My background is an already made panel, in blues of course. I have splattered this with black splatters, as well as some gold splatters. This is made by mixing up Daffodil Yellow and Golden Rose Paper Glaze with water, to create a liquid water colour. If you do this, make sure to only make as much as you need as it doesn’t keep.  The sentiment is two diecuts, one is the Happy Birthday Word Topper as well as the Aquarius from the Aquarius Girl coordinating die. Naturally, I couldn’t help myself from adding some bling to the card but I managed to restrain myself to just the earrings. These are Celebration Gem Mix stones.  That’s it from me for today, thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed this post and the card, and make sure to check out the YouTube video as well! Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica  PS Don't forget to take advantage of the Black Friday Sale, especially if you have been keeping your eye on some goodies from Picket Fence! Hello! I am continuing my series of cards using the Zodiac Girl stamps. This month's release is Aquarius girl, and it you look closely at her hair, it seemed obvious to me what colour it had to be! The card base is acetate, so I cut 4 pieces of cardstock with the coordinating die - one (#1) to stamp and colour in to go on the front of the card, one (#2) to go inside the front of the card to hid the adhesive from the front of the card, one  (#3) for inside the card to write a message on, and one (#4) on the back of the card to hid the adhesive from the 3rd piece.  Hello!  Larisa here and today I'm sharing two holiday cards featuring the NEW A Wreath for all Seasons Stamp!  This beautiful stamp is the perfect addition to your cards and it's so versatile! For my first card, I started with a black piece of cardstock and trimmed it to fit an A2 sized card.  Then I stamped out my image and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder.  On top of that I added a strip of black and white patterned paper from my stash.  After stamping and coloring up Beautiful Girl Jill, I die cut her out using the coordinating die and added her to the left of my card with some foam tape.  I also tucked a bit of iridescent twine behind her for added texture.  A few sequins and a "Merry Christmas" sentiment finish this card off!   For my next card, I chose some fun and whimsical colors to work with on this vertical design.  I stamped my image out in teal ink on light blue card stock.  Then I trimmed it to fit my card base.  Then I die cut and paper pieced my little gnome adding some detail with Copic Markers.  Across the bottom, I combined two different stamped sentiments in two different colors to add some interest to my card. A few sequins and a fuzzy pom pom on my gnomes had finish this fun little card.   Products Used: Beautiful Girl Jill Stamp Beautiful Girl Jill Coordinating Die A Wreath for all Seasons Stamp Sequin Mix Plus - Crafty Friends Fancy Christmas Sentiments Fancy Christmas Sentiments Coordinating Die Billy the Gnome Die A Gnome Christmas Hugs Enclosed Thanks so much for stopping by!  Happy Crafting!

A Christmas Flower

by Sandi MacIver on Nov 12 2021
Hey cardmaking friends, welcome back.  It's Sandi MacIver here.  Today I have a GRUNGE CHRISTMAS card for you created with Picket Fence Studios A Christmas Flower Stamp Set.  I decided to stencil a bit of a messy "grungy" background just to change it up a bit.  Grunge is a technique I do enjoy, but I have never tried it on a Christmas Card before and I kind of like it.     How to create the Grunge Christmas Card Start by using the Misti to stamp the A Christmas Flower onto Hammermill cardstock using Picket Fence Studios Black Hybrid Ink (copic friendly). Next Use copic Markers to color the image in. Pinks:  RV55, RV17, RV17, Yellow:  Y17,  Greens:  G21, G24, G28 Finally, die cut the image out with the coordinating die.   Creating the Grunge Background: This is a soft Grunge with really only two layers. Start with a black card base 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 and secure it to a protected work surface. Spray the Flower Stencil with Pixie Spray and lay it over the cardstock. Use a palette knife to add Snowdrop White paper Glaze through the stencil randomly - don't fill it in completely. Remove the stencil and wash immediately.   While you are waiting for the paper glaze to dry, cut the Snowflake Alice twice from white card stock and once from Simon Glitter White. Stack the snowflakes with the glitter one on top and glue it to the top of the card front. Attach the card front to a top folding A2 White card base. Mix some Gold Gansai Tambi ink and splatter the front of the card. Stamp and cut out the sentiment from the Fancy Christmas Sentiments and coordinating die set. Use foam squares to attach the flower and sentiment to the card front. Embellish with 1950's Sequins.          used for the Picket Fence Studios Grunge Christmas Card: Here are the products I used today.  Compensated affiliate links used  where available at no cost to you. Color Your Stress Away

by Lisa Tilson on Nov 10 2021
Hello there, Lisa here to share a card with you today. It's no secret that I love to colour the Beautiful Girl stamps and so today's card features Beautiful Girl Sydnee and the Glass Window Rainbow Die. Both of these are slightly older products, but it's always nice to see them used in a different way. To start my card, I stamped Sydnee Girl onto some 80lb white cardstock using Black Hybrid Ink and I coloured her with Copics. The numbers are listed below if you would like to see them. She was then cut out with the coordinating die and set to one side. I created my background by blending Distress Oxide inks onto some white cardstock using an oval masking stencil. Taking my Life Changing Blender Brushes, I applied Cracked Pistachio, Salvaged Patina and Kitsch Flamingo across the panel from top left to bottom right. I then took another panel of 80lb white cardstock and ran it through my die cutting machine with the Glass Window Rainbow Die. So, all my pieces were pretty much ready to assemble. All I needed to do was to create my front window panel. Taking another panel of white card, I die cut an oval into the front and then I adhered the stained glass window die cut behind it. I then took two oval dies which were close in size and die cut a frame which I glued to the front just to add a bit more interest. It reminds me a little bit of a cameo brooch/picture! The ink blended panel was added to a top folding A2 note card and then the window panel and Sydnee were popped up with foam tape over the top. The sentiment is from Crafty Lifestyle and it was stamped onto black cardstock using Versamark Ink. I applied white detail embossing powder and heat set. It was trimmed out and added with foam tape and a little glue. For a bit of sparkle I added a few gems from Oceans Of Green Gem Mix. Copics used: Skin (E53, E21, E00, E000, R20), Lips (R22), Pink Flowers (R22, R21, R20), Eyeshadow (G12, G40), Green Flowers (G12), Hair (E55, E53, E51)

Oh Happy Day!

by Rachelle Oltean on Nov 03 2021
Hello! It's Rachelle with you today and I've got a rich floral card to share featuring the NEW "Watercolor Roses" Stamp Set! This set has already become a favorite and can be used for so many different occasions! I began by heat embossing the rose bouquet image with gold powder onto heavy (130#) white card stock and I watercolored/die cut the floral with the matching die.  I LOVE Art Nouveau design and was so excited to see the NEW Slim Line Changes Stencil! The curved line work on this design is absolutely beautiful and is a special addition to my Picket Fence Studios' stencil collection! I placed the slim line stencil down the middle of an A2 card base and applied "Peacock Feathers" Distress Ink onto the teal card stock with my "Life Changing Blender Brush." I really like the framing effect this slim line pattern gives to this A2-sized panel! I left the stencil in place and flecked gold watercolor paint on top so that the speckle would only be visible within the stenciled pattern. Once the panel was dry, I glued it to a top-folding A2 card base and heat embossed one of the wonderful sentiments from this stamp set with the same gold powder onto the finished teal background. I added a couple of drops of my "Peacock Feathers" Reinker to a plastic palette and carefully painted around the edge of the white die cut margin so that the floral would blend into the teal background. This keeps the color on the roses bright and clean (with white highlights) but removes the harsh contrast of the white edge against the dark card stock.  I popped the roses up with foam tape for a bit of dimension and added a mixture of embellishments in coordinating colors: "Iridescent Moonshine" Sequins, "Sands Of Time" Gem Mix, and the matte gold circle sequins from the "Pumpkin Cookies Sequin Mix Plus." Thanks so much for stopping by - Happy Crafting! Hugs - Rachelle

Coffee Is The Answer with Erica

by Erica Andersson-Burke on Nov 02 2021
Hello my crafty coffee lovers!  It's Erica back on the Picket Fence Studios blog today, with a very caffeinated card! I have used so many of the fun new coffee themed goodies on this one.  First off, I have stamped the Down To The Last Cup stamp twice in a row on a panel in a light grey ink. This was done with the help of the MISTI, which is such a helpful tool with these fab seamless stamps. You can cover the whole panel with the stamp by repositioning it over and over, but for this card I did only a row of them, which left a white border on each side of the images. On top of this I then stamped the Iconic Beauty Sara stamp with Black Hybrid ink, again with the help of a MISTI, to get a solid imprint. She's been decorated with some of the gems from the Coffee Beans sequin mix. The coffee beans in this mix are so fun but I'm hoarding those!  My panel was then adhered to a coffee coloured card base and of course I had to used the Coffee Is The Answer word topper die! I have cut the Coffee Is The Answer word topper die out of back card stock and also another piece of black card stock that had some Black Pansy and Golden Rose Paper Glaze on it. This added a fun effect on the letters! A bit like crema on a good cup of espresso.  This card is based on one I made earlier, that you might have seen. I used the same supplies for this one, minus the Coffee Beans sequins, and on this one I did cover the entire card base with the Down To The Last Cup stamp. I also added some details to Iconic Beauty Sara by colouring in her hair flower and giving her a luscious lip colour.  The Coffee Is the Answer word topper die was cut out of white, red and black card stock, and all layered up! I also used the Word Topper Subtitles stamp set to add ´what was the question?´ to the sentiment.  I love this bold, graphic look and was so pleased with how the cards came out!  With that, I'm all done for today, but I really hope you like the cards and will try something like this yourself! It is great fun experimenting with your supplies and see what kind of look you can get with them.  Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica

My Favorite Things + Picket Fence Studios Blog Hop & Giveaway!

Hi friends! We are so excited today to be collaborating with our friends at My Favorite Things! This phenomenal stamp company produces a beautiful line of inks we are addicted to, as well as patterned paper that will make your heart sing, in addition to their stamps, dies, stencils and more.  Today our team is working with their inks and patterned paper, and just wait until you see all the inspiration on today's hop. And be sure and check out the giveaway details! First up, Amanda used the Strip Splash Paper Pad from MFT with our Mini Slim Line Stitched and Scalloped Rectangles Die Cutting System, which includes this phenomenal large Love You die in the set! Then, she used the Buffalo Brights paper pack as the backdrop for the beautiful, embossed Winter Has Come to Town stamp image.  This ADORABLE card features Gingerbread Bob, which she embellished with bens, the MFT Buffalo Brights paper and MFT's Fire Coral ink. The embellishments are the Picket Fence Studios Gingerbread Houses Sequin Mix Plus. Daniel created a gorgeous scene in that classic aqua and red color scheme, using MFT Red Hot and Summer Splash inks, the Happy Holidays Menagerie repeating background stamp, and the Slim Line Our Town cover Plate Die. Erica brought the color with this cheerful clean and simple card. She used Limelight, Lemon Chiffon, Summer Splash, Cement Gray, Grape Jelly and Cotton Candy Inks with our sweet little tree from Joyeux Noel, finishing the scene with Sands of Time and Reflections Gem Mixes. She used the exact same inks with our Soar Butterfly Stencil and Life Changing Blender Brushes - the soft application of color completely transforms the inks! She used the Sands of Time gem mix here as well. Speaking of butterflies, Lisa used our Zing Butterfly Stencil with her MFT inks and Life Changing Blender Brushes and Iridescent Moonshine Sequins. Ilina created a stunning floral blended design with her MFT Inks and our Shading Flower Stencil.  Julia brought ALL the Halloween today! She combined Butterscotch & Candied Yam inks (how perfect is that) on an A2 card with Life Changing Blender Brushes and our Jack-O-Lantern Stencil.  The Keep Me in Stitches Paper Pad is the backdrop for her Triple Trouble image and sentiment! Using a beautiful complementary color scheme of Grape Jelly Ink and a bright green witch hat. The sentiment is from Triple Trouble, and the spiders are from Marching Spiders seamless background stamp. She matted that layer with the Keep Me in Stitches patterned paper. Finally, this adorable clean and simple card! Again she used the Marching Spiders background after masking a diagonal and ink blending Grape Jelly ink in the opening. Then she used Triple Trouble's small pumpkins, cut with the coordinating dies and beautifully colored. Karen created a stunning, cheerful winter scene using Butterscotch Ink and Snowdrop White Paper Glaze through the Slim Line Dashes Stencil. She cut the panel with the Mini Slim Line Stitched and Scalloped Rectangles Die Cutting System. Then she used the Slim Line Stitched and Scalloped Rectangles and Alpha Die to cut the Petite Gingham Paper Pad for the scalloped circle, and then colored the little deer from Lots of Christmas Cheer, cut with the coordinating die. She stamped the sentiment from Fancy Friendship Sentiments, and cut it with the coordinating die. Larisa created a beautiful ink blended rainbow through the A2 Framed Leaves stencil to mat the image from Nothing Short of Amazing. She finished it with a little strip of the Stripe Splash Paper Pad and our Hello Word Topper Die. Michelle created two stunning rainbow cards today with her MFT inks. The first features our You Make This World Better Cover Plate Die, popping an Iridescent Moonshine Sequin in the center of each flower. The sentiment is from Watercolor Roses. Using the same sentiment, she did ink smooshing with the same inks on a rectangular panel, and then coordinated that with the soft background created with Life Changing Blender Brushes and the Fancy Kaleidoscope Stencil.  Rachelle created a vivid and rich scene with ONLY dies and stencils - no stamps! The dies she used are: Slim Line Trees Silhouette Cover Plate, Billy the Gnome, Happy Halloween Word Topper and the Scarecrow Cover Plate Die. She added Paper Glitz to the trees for that final magical touch.  Then she switched gears for this soft floral card. She ink blended the background through the Flowers stencil after masking the image from the Early Tulip Bouquet - we love the glow! Sara created two gorgeous clean & simple cards. A tiny strip of patterned paper, bordered by black, anchors her delicate, ink blended snowflakes from our Winter Snowflakes Dies. In a similar anchoring technique with the striped paper, she created a collage of the Winter Snowflakes behind her greeting, and before attaching that, she created a stunning Cement Grey Ink fade with Life Changing Blender brushes and the Arctic Winter Stencil. Finally, Lydia created an eclipse technique card using our Slim Line Oversized Many Blessings Die, the Slim Line Changes Stencil, and three of the gorgeous blue MFT inks. Here are all the products used in today's cards:   Want more inspiration and to be entered in our giveaway? You're in luck!
