Southern Magnolias card

by Silvana Chambon on Jan 03 2025
Hello, friends, and Happy New Year! It´s Silvana here from Casa Magnolia. My first card for 2025 is the first one I´ll send out this year and is dedicated to a beloved friend. I thought the Southern Magnolias stamp designed by the talented Kelly Taylor was perfect because my IG handle is Casa Magnolia, I mean, it was just for me, right? So let´s see how I did it!  As I said, my card features the new Southern Magnolias stamp. It´s a background stamp full of details but perfect for coloring. I decided to leave it in black, so I stamped with black ink and then I stamped again with embossing ink and put some clear embossing powder.   I painted the flower´s background with the new Paper Splatter Opaque Copper which is an amazing color. I love the Paper Splatters because they have a lot of shine in the formula and the look is amazing. After all the background was dried I cut it with the new Beyond Basics: A2 Stamp Cover Plate die with Postmark Dies.Such a fun and versatile die! You need it in your stash, because it´s a true cardmaking basic.  I glued the background over an A2 black cardstock base which gives it a lot of contrast.   I stamped some of the sentiments from the Graceful Magnolias stamp set onto a black cardstock with embossing ink and white embossing powder. I cut them with the coordinating dies and glued them with foam tape.  And that´s my completed card! I love the shine and contrast of it and I hope my friend will love it too.  Thank you so much for stoping by the blog today. Have a fantastic year! See you in my next post, Silvana.

Hello There! - Paper Glaze Luxe and Liquid Splatters

by Colleen Balija on May 07 2024
Hi there, it's Colleen here and I'm excited to share this mixed media card!! I got to play with the new Paper Glaze Luxe from the April release! For my card today, I'll be using Paper Glaze Luxe in Clementine Preserves and Tropical Cocktail, Oversized Tropical Leaf die, Liquid Watercolor Splatters in Yellow, Salutations sentiments stamp, and from a previous release Liquid Watercolors in Purple Lilac, Pierced Blanket cover die plate, A2 Rectangles for Card Layering dies, and Polka Dot Palooza Foiling card panel.  First, I added a thin layer of the new Paper Glaze Luxe in both colors to 2 sheets of heavy weight cardstock. I used heavyweight cardstock because it holds the paper glaze well. When it was dried (maybe 1/2 hour later), I die cut the oversize tropical leaf using the Tropical Cocktail paste and the lattice design die cut using the Clementine Preserves paste. It came out SO beautiful! I set those aside and focused on the backdrop.  Starting with a foiled design from Polka Dot Palooza, I ink blended over it in shades of teal. The foiling resists the ink, so you still see that lovely shine! Then I adhered the lattice die that was created using Paper Glaze in Clementine Preserves over the background and finished with splatters using the liquid watercolor splatters.  Next, I splattered the oversized leaf that I had die cut earlier over the Paper Glaze in Tropical Cocktail and adhered it over the lattice background at an angle so that the background peeked out from behind the leaf! At the last minute, I decided to add gold paste to the edges of the leaf to help it pop a bit more. Then I finished with a sentiment from the Salutations stamp set.  In the photo above, you can see all the detail from the splatters and the lovely colors of the new Paper Glaze Luxe!  TIP: You can make a ton of backgrounds in advance by adding a thin layer of Paper Glaze in your favorite color over heavyweight cardstock. Then pull it out when you need it! The paper may curl up a bit, but if you run it through your die cut machine, it will flatten out!  To shop all of the products in this post, click on the description of each product in the first paragraph of this post. A Sea Turtle's Journey - Ink Smooshing

by Colleen Balija on Apr 19 2024
Hi everyone! It's Colleen and I'm happy to be here with you today sharing a fun and colorful card using items from the April release!!! Today I'll be using A Sea Turtle's Journey stamp, Signature Quotes: The Sea sentiment stamp, and Liquid Splatters in Yellow Sunshine. I'll also be using existing Liquid Splatters in Blue Turquoise and Purple Lilac.  This stamp set is so detailed, and you don't need to add much to these turtles to make a great card! There are 2 large turtles and 2 small ones (Mama and baby!) to the stamp set along with some lovely sentiments.   The first step was to create a wash of color that looks like the ocean - I'm going the abstract route here because I'm not great with scenes! I placed some teal-colored reactive ink onto my glass media matt, sprayed water over it, and then placed a piece of watercolor cardstock over the inked area, moving the paper around slightly. Then I dried the ink and repeated the process until I got the coverage I wanted. This technique is called Ink Smooshing and it's FANTASTIC!  Next, I stamped a large and small turtle into each corner of the inked-up card panel in permanent black ink. Picket Fence Studios has a wonderful permanent black ink and it's become my favorite go-to for coloring and water coloring! I had to stamp the turtles a few times because of the watercolor paper, but I got a great image! Then I water colored over the turtles with Liquid Splatters in Purple, Green, and the new Yellow. Then I splattered those same watercolors over the entire panel. These liquid watercolors are sooooo versatile and vibrant! Once everything dried, I trimmed the panel down, placed it over a slightly larger black card panel, and placed both onto a white card base. Then I finished with a sentiment from the new Signature Quotes: The Sea! I love how the teal color in the background looks like water, and the splatters add just the perfect touch!  To shop the products used in this post, click on the description of the product in the first paragraph of this post. Thanks for stopping by!

Sparkly Playful Sara Girl - with Paper Glaze Luxe

by Colleen Balija on Feb 26 2024
HI friends! I've got a fun and sparkly card to share with you today using the new Sara Girl stamp and Paper Glaze Luxe in Lime Soda! Also, I'll be using the existing Framed Leaves stencil!  I fell in love with Sara Girl just as soon as I saw her, so I've used her a few times this month! First, I stamped her in permanent black ink. Next, I colored her hair and face. The hair is colored with alcohol inks n shades of pink, giving her a funky and modern look! I applied Paper Splatters Watercolor in Kiwi Lime over the pennant on her necklace. Then I die cut her and a piece of black and white cardstock in 3 rectangle sizes and glued them together. I think that makes a nice frame for Sara!  Next, I focused on the background. Starting with 5.5x4.25 piece of black cardstock, I placed the cardstock on the PFS Paper Inking Palette sized 5x6 and then placed the stencil over the paper and the palette. These palettes are incredible because they have a sticky surface, making it perfect for stenciling or ink blending! They come in a variety of sizes too! Once I had the stencil and cardstock in place, I applied the Lime Soda Paper Glaze Luxe through the stencil with a palette knife and then immediately removed the stencil. I set the card panel aside to dry. The glaze dries very quickly!!!  Once the glaze was dried, you could see the lime shimmer through the black cardstock, and I loved the contrast of black against lime! In person it is much, much more shimmery! I adhered Sara Girl over the background panel. NOTE: Sometimes glue doesn't adhere well to a surface like the glaze, so I used a strong adhesive and that did the trick. Also, I thought about adding a sentiment, but this card panel was so lovely that I didn't want to add to it, so I'll put one on the inside of the card for my recipient!  This card was so easy to put together because of the paper glaze and the details in the Sara Girl stamp! I'm so glad you stopped by today! You can find the products I've used for today's card by hovering over the item name and then clicking on it. That will take you to the PFS shop!

Waterlilies from Layering Fauna Butterfly Dies

by Andrea Shell on Feb 21 2024

Hello there! It's Andrea back with you, and today I'm sharing an unexpected way to use the new Layering Fauna Butterfly Dies. When I first saw these dies, I thought of waterlilies and couldn't get that image out of my mind. I diecut the butterfly dies separately from pale pink cardstock: one solid butterfly and one with the lily shape. I taped the negative and postive pieces together on the back of the second butterfly. I placed the diecuts onto the 5"x6" Paper Inking Palette and, using the Bright Rainbow Pint-sized Paper Pouncers, applied pink dye ink to the diecuts. Once I was happy with the ink-blending, I added White Snowflake Paper Splatter to the diecuts with the Fan Brush. I trimmed the solid butterfly apart to create two solid bases and adhered the negative pieces from the second butterfly to the solid shapes with tiny pieces of foam tape.  Because of the size of my "waterlilies", I decided to make a 5"x7" card. I blended a panel of white cardstock with a couple shades of teal ink using the Life Changing Blender Brushes. The 6"x8" Tree Bark Stencil reminded me of water ripples. After placing the stencil over my ink-blended panel, I spread Twilight Lights - Seas Paper Gaze Luxe over the panel. Once the glaze was dry, I trimmed down my panel and affixed it to a cardbase with double-sided adhesive. I adhered my lilies with double-sided adhesive, popping up the foreground lily with thin 3D foam squares. I diecut the letters to spell "friend" twice from white cardstock using the Slim Line Stitched and Scalloped Rectangles and Alpha Diecutting System. I applied the same ink used on the waterlilies to one of the diecuts and then glued the layers together for stability. I stamped a supporting sentiment from the Animal Crackers You Deserve to Be Spoiled stamp set with Black Hybrid Ink and diecut it with the coordinating dies. I glued "friend" to my card and popped up the supporting sentiment with foam tape. To finish the card, I glued some of the tiny sequins from the Iridescent Moonshine Sequin mix to the waterlilies. There are two cards in today's blog post. The first one showcases one of the Kelly Taylor illustrated stamps (I'm a fan!) with a fun background, and the second is a more plain card with a fully coloured panel featuring the new snowman stamp in the no-line colouring technique.
