Easy Coloring and Ink Blending

by Colleen Balija on Mar 20 2024
Hi friends! I love to get my hands on a stamp that's great for coloring, as coloring is therapy to my soul! And then using ink blending techniques to frame the focal point is the topping on the cake! The new Right Pair of Boots stamp is perfect for coloring! But it doesn't have to be complicated or intimidating! My card today uses the Right Pair of Boots, Liquid Splatters in Turquoise Blue, Pinking Sheet die plate, and Basket Weave card fronts paper.  This stamp set is one image, so I stamped it in permanent black ink onto a white card panel. I use permanent black ink when I plan to color because the ink won't bleed. I offset the image to the left of the card panel, allowing a place for my sentiment. Offsetting an image is appealing to the eyes.  Next, I colored the boots using Copic markers in E79, E49, E39, E37, E23. I followed the shading that was added in the stamp design with the darkest markers and highlighted the lighter areas on the design with lighter colored markers. The medium shades were used to blend. I used several shades here, but you could use 3 shades in dark, medium, and light. For the shoelaces, I used BG49 because I wanted to give the boots a feminine flare to go along with the flowers! I also added a bit of Gelly Pen glitter in gold! The heel of the boot was done in C9, C7, C5 and C3. The flowers were simple to color because they are small, so I limit the number of markers to no more than 3. I used Y11, Y15, Y19, BG13, BG49, RV13, RV14, RV17, RV66, B32, B34, YG05, YG09, R24, R29 for the flowers and leaves.  Below is a closer look at the boot and flowers.  When my coloring was finished, I inked around the boot and flowers with a light shade of brown. Then I added more shading beneath the boot using E37 and E23. I felt like this really zoned in and framed the boot! And it helped reduce the amount of white space. Finally, I stamped the sentiment from this stamp set and then trimmed the card panel. I finished with liquid splatters in Turquoise.  The final step was to die cut the Basket Weave card front using the largest piece from Basic Die Cutting set 1. I adhered the boot card panel over it, and then placed both onto a white 5.5x4.25 card base. I love how the basket weaving peeks out from behind the design!  Coloring an image such as this one doesn't have to be challenging. The design already includes shaded areas, so use your darkest alcohol markers in those areas and then use the medium to blend it out, and the lightest to highlight the lighter areas. The drastic difference between shading and highlighting is what makes your coloring go WOWZA!!! Don't worry about getting it right, either. If it makes it easier for you to choose where to add your shading and highlighting, then go with it! The point is to ENJOY!!!!!  To shop the items that I've used, click on the product description. GET WELL SLIMLINE CARD

Hello, everyone! It´s Silvana here. Welcome to PFS blog.  Today I´m sharing a slimline format card showing some last release´s products like The Happy Fern die, which I loved because it has the perfect size for various types of cards.  Let´s start by the background. You can achieve that woody look easily with the Slimline Against the Grain Cover Plate Die. The texture is amazing. Instead of using sequins, I made some splatters with the Paper Splatter Watercolor in Liquid Gold color to bring some pop of shine to the card. The frame was made with a die from the Scalloped Frames dies and I cut it three times: two in white cardstock and one in a light kraft color. I played with some alcohol inks on yupo paper and then diecut the paper with the new Layering Flora: Happy Fern Die. I also cut a piece of vellum and put the two pieces in the front. The vellum gives an elegant look with the pattern and the colors of the alcohol inks.  To finish the card I heat embossed one of the stamps in the new Get well, Again over a black cardstock with gold embossing powder.  I hope you enjoyed my card and try your own version to give some comfort to someone ill.  See you in my next blog post. Have a fantastic week.  Silvana

Aries girl with Michelle

by Michelle Lupton on Jan 19 2022
This month's release from Picket Fence Studios includes a new addition to the Zodiac Girls series, Aries Girl. I decided to use red and black as my colour palette because the colour associated with the zodiac sign Aries is red. Aries is also ruled by the planet Mars, and Mars is the god of war, and is also associated with red. However, I did not use any red alcohol ink in the background. I used black alcohol ink, smoulder alcohol pearl (which is a bronze/brown colour) and Stirling alcohol alloy ink (the silver). The red colour at the top and bottom edge came from the black ink separatinng into its component colours. I coloured Aries Girl with Copic markers.   Thanks for visiting :)

Hello!  Larisa here and today, I'm sharing a fun little tag I made using the If You've Got It Haunt It (currently on sale!) and Triple Trouble Stamp Sets!   To create my tag, I die cut the smallest scalloped rectangle in deep purple card stock.  Then I trimmed a piece of white card stock to fit inside.  I stamped out my sentiments and my bats.  Then I stamped and colored my witch image.  After cutting her out, I added her to the center of the tag along with some gold thread.  At the top of the tag, I punched a hole and added some orange ribbon.   This tag is quick and easy to make and perfect for added a fun and whimsical touch to your Halloween Treats!  Thanks so much for stopping by!  Happy Crafting! Eiko Girl

by Larisa Hohman on Aug 04 2021
Hello!  Larisa here and today, I'm bringing you a bright and colorful card featuring the Beautiful Girl Eiko Girl Clear Stamp Set! To create my card, I started with some colorful patterned paper in my stash and trimmed it to fit the front of my A2 sized card panel.  Then I stamped out the BUZZ 4x4 Seamless Stamp, colored it with Copics, and die cut it using a large circle die in my stash.  I layered that on top of a bright blue doily and adhered them both to the center of my card.  Next, I stamped out the Eiko Girl image, colored her with Copics, and cut her out using the coordinating die.  Using foam tape, I added her to the center of the card and layered up some patterned paper strips behind her.  A big bold sentiment across the center finished it off.   Products Used: Eiko Girl Stamp Set Eiko Girl Coordinating Die Buzz 4x4 Seamless Stamp Favorite Notification Stamp Black Hybrid Ink Pad Thanks so much for stopping by!  Happy Crafting!

I'm obsessed, y'all

by Michelle Lupton on Jan 08 2021
I have a bright and happy card to share today, using alcohol inks, pink foil and an awesome word die from Picket Fence Studios. I made a panel of yupo with pink alcohol ink and pink foil, and cut it with the Slimline diecutting system. I cut the y'all die from pink, black and white cardstock, and layered them offset to create a drop shadow.  I then stamped and white embossed the rest of the sentiment onto another piece of pink cardstock and layered it over the top. Relatively simple, but the large word die packs a punch! Thanks for visiting :)

Hello! It's Michelle here today, and I'm sharing my very first attempt at a new technique (well, new to me!) I added the kaleidoscope stencil over my gel press, and  then added two colours of alcohol ink and one colour of alcohol pearls. I brayered them over the stencil, then removed the stencil and allowed them to dry. I then brayered a thin layer of  white acrylic gouache over the top and took a print from the gel press. I finished the card with the Thankyou for being you sentiment stamp and some Gin and Tonic sequins. Thanks for visiting :)

Hello from Michelle Lupton

by Michelle Lupton on Mar 20 2020
Hello! Michelle Lupton here today to share an alcohol ink card using dies and a stamp from the February release from Picket Fence Studios.   I started with a panel of Yupo and added some alcohol inks in blues and greens. I then took some black cardstock and die cut the "Hello" word die three times and layered them up. I cut the shadow from vellum, adhered the word to the shadow and then covered it with Glossy Accents to give a glassy shine. I decided I needed a bit more, so I stamped the sentiment from Favorite Notification and fussy cut it before adhering it below the die cut. Thanks for visiting :)
