Monochromatic Magnolias: Coloring on Colored Cardstock

by Andrea Shell on Nov 06 2024
Hello there! It's Andrea with you to share some inspiration with the Graceful Magnolias stamp set from the October release. After seeing other designers color images on colored cardstock, I have wanted to try it. With its beautiful florals, the Graceful Magnolias stamp seemed the perfect candidate for that technique, too. I began by embossing the magnolia spray onto navy cardstock with WOW! Polished Silver Super Fine Embossing Powder. I added color to the flowers and buds with colored pencils, starting with a light color (I recommend white for a base layer) and working up to darker ones. I heat-embossed a second spray onto vellum with WOW! On the Lake Embossing Glitter. I diecut both images with the coordinating die. I kept my background simple to have the focus on my floral images. I diecut the same navy cardstock with the A2 Basket Weave Cover Panel Die and mounted it onto metallic cardstock. I think the result is very elegant! I glued the two magnolia sprays together and attached them to my background with foam squares. I heat-embossed a sentiment from the Swanky Sentiments: Sympathy set with the silver embossing powder and diecut it with the coordinating die. I adhered my sentiment to a strip of vellum and wrapped the strip around my background panel, which I affixed to a cardbase. For more sparkle, I added clear gems to the background. Graceful Magnolias Card

by Silvana Chambon on Oct 22 2024
Hello and welcome to the Picket Fence Studios´blog! It´s Silvana here and today I want to share with you a very special card to me.  As you may know my Instagram handle is Casa Magnolia because I live in a house with a big Magnolia tree on the front that blooms in spring with this pinkish flowers so beautiful. So, everytime a company comes with a magnolia stamp, I buy it because it fills me with joy trying to reproduce the color in the flowers all year round. When I saw the lovely and beautiful Graceful Magnolias stamp set from PFS and designed by Kelly Taylor I was thrilled! I knew that I had to have it and make a lovely card with it. To color the flowers I used Distress oxide inks; the same colors I used in the blended backgroound. It was a mix of Tattered Rose, Victorian Velvet and Kitsch Flamingo. For the leaves, I used some watercolor pencils.  As I mentioned before, I used the same Distress Oxide colors to ink blend a part of an A2 panel. In the other background part I used the new A2 Basket Weave Cover Plate Die. Very versatile die for backgrounds. To give more interest I put some Opaque white Paper Splatter.  I used one of the sentiments the stamp set comes with. I heat embossing it over black cardstock and cut it with the coordinating die.  The finishing touch were the gems from the new Thunderstorm Gem mix.  And that completes my card. I hope you like it as much as I did. This stamp set really filled me with gratitude and joy.  Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today. Have an amazing day and happy crafting! Silvana.
