With Sympathy - The Cards We Never Want To Make

by Lisa Tilson on Oct 20 2021
Hello there, Lisa here today to share a sympathy card with you. These are the cards that we never want to make. I actually find it easier to have a few ready on hand to send out, then at least I am not struggling to do it when the need arises. For sympathy cards, I often keep my colours muted, or at last keep the card really simple. I never feel it's the time for a lot of clutter or "noise" on a card. I started by taking a panel of 80lb white cardstock and securing the Slim Line Changes Stencil to it (from behind) with low tack tape. Then, using Life Changing Blending Brushes, I blended Cracked Pistachio, Tumbled Glass, Twisted Citron and Salvaged Patina Distress Oxides randomly through the stencil. I removed the stencil and cleaned it off. Next I took the Slim Line Oversized With Sympathy Word Die and die cut it from Lawn Fawn Mermaid cardstock. The shadow was die cut from vellum. I adhered the die cut sentiment to the vellum using tiny dabs of wet adhesive so that they wouldn't be visible and then I set it aside to dry. I put an acrylic block on it to make sure it was really stuck down tightly. You could even add extra layers of the word die if you want, to give the card a little bit more dimension. Next, for a bit of extra interest, I took the Leaves For Flowers stamp set and stamped a selection of the leaves onto vellum using Versamark Ink. I then applied white detail embossing powder before heat setting. They were then cut out with the coordinating dies. I trimmed the stencilled panel down slightly and adhered it to an A2 top folding horizontal base card using wet adhesive.  I then added tiny bits of adhesive onto the back of the vellum and adhered that down over the centre. I put some glue onto the little leaves and placed those around the sentiment. It is definitely possible to use this slim line word die on an A2 card. I just trimmed off the excess from the sides and I like how it was the focal point. I hope that this gives you some inspiration for a clean and simple sympathy card. Until next time, happy crafting!

Hi guys!  It's Erica back on the Picket Fence blog today with a two for one cards. I love, love, love ink blending with my Life Changing Blender Brushes but what I don't love is the wasted ink on the stencils. So, what's a girl to do? Well, she uses that too of course!! By spritzing water on the stencil to activate the ink, and then press a piece of water colour paper over it, you get the negative print from the stencil! Pretty cool, huh??  I have used one of my all-time favourite Picket Fence Studios stencils, Fancy Kaleidoscope, I love this one so much. Another fave combo is the BFF Maggie Mae stamp and coordinating diecut. I thought she'd work really well as it's technically autumn, but it's still sunny and lovely here in Spain. I'd love to be as stylish as she is, and I coloured her up in a couple of outfits that I could see myself wearing (if only I'd go shopping for clothes) With these coloured in, I used the coordinating diecut and cut them both out. I nearly left the backgrounds as they were, but decided to add a little touch of sparkle to them. I mixed up a little bit of Brown Dahlia and Golden Rose Paper Glaze with water to make a shimmery water colour, and splattered this all over both backgrounds. While that was drying, I cut out two Word Topper Dies: the Hello and the Happy Fall Y'All out of white card stock. I usually layer these up but I wanted them to be quite subtle so I didn't today. On top of these I have stamped up 'my friend' from the Word Topper Subtitles stamp set, with Black Hybrid ink and 'it might be cold outside but your smile warms my heart' in Flame ink from Catherine Pooler. With all the pieces ready it was a quick job of adding them to the card bases with liquid adhesive, and the cards were done! That's it from me for today but I hope you enjoyed these cards and the different looks you can get with my two-for-one technique.  Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica

Thinking of You Shaker Card with Karen Reategui

by Karen Reategui on Oct 07 2021
Hello crafty friends! Today I'm sharing the shaker card featuring the Torch Ginger Tropical Flower Stamp and Die, More Fancy Sentiments Stamp and Dies, Center Flower 6x6 Stencil, Silver Bells Paper Glitz and Iridescent Moonshine Sequin Mix.   Let's begin! I started by placing the Flower 6x6 Stencil on top of an A2 panel and applied Silver Bells Paper Glitz using the Mixed Media Spatulas. I removed the stencil and let this panel dry for about 20 minutes.     Once the panel was dry, I added a card base at the back using glue. Next, I die cut a frame using two rectangles dies out of peach cardstock. Additionally, I die cut a piece of acetate and adhered it to the back of the frame using double sided tape. This way I created the window for the shaker.      Next, I poured the Iridescent Moonshine Sequin Mix on top of the background created with the Silver Bells Paper Glitz. I also adhered foam tape around the window of the shaker, removed the backing paper and placed it on top of the background to close the shaker window.       Torch Ginger Tropical Flower Stamp was stamped using Gingerbread Wood Hybrid ink from Scrapbook.com and I colored the image using Copic markers. I die cut this image using the matching die and placed it on top of the shaker background.     Finally, my sentiment from More Fancy Sentiments Stamp was stamped using Black Hybrid ink pad and then it was die cut using the coordinating die. I placed the sentiment at the lower part of the card and it was finished.   I really hope you enjoyed this card and give it a try. Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day. Your friend, Karen

One Set, Two Ways!

by Larisa Hohman on Oct 06 2021
Hello!  Larisa here and today, I'm sharing two very different cards using the same stamp set: Winter Has Come To Town.   I love to stretch my supplies and come up with creative ways to use them!  Today, I'm showing you how to use one set two ways!  For my first card, I stamped out the village scene using black ink.  Then I colored it up using Copics.  For the sky, I added some distress inks and then popped up my sentiment with foam tape.  A pretty simple card that packs a colorful punch!   For my second card, I stamped the village scene again, but this time, I used light grey ink.  Then I stamped out my sentiment using red ink and used a black pen to add some shadows.  I paired the NEW Winter Scene Building People to my scene and colored them up with Copics.  A bit of foam tape, helps them stand out in the scene.  Then I layered the whole thing on some dark green card stock.   I just love that both of the cards use the same stamp set, but look so different!  Thanks so much for stopping by!     Products Used: Winter Has Come To Town Winter Scene Building People Winter Scene Building People Coordinating Die Black Hybrid Ink

Ombre Paper Glaze Video and card samples

by Sandi MacIver on Oct 01 2021

Hey paper crafters, welcome back.  It's Sandi MacIver here and today I have a New Video Paper Glaze Ombre.  It's over on the Picket Fence Studios YouTube channel (link below for you). In the video I share a few different ways I like to use and blend these awesome Paper Glazes, and then I switch over and show you all the finished cards I made with the backgrounds created in the first portion. Yes, it's a long video, but its fast paced with lots of card inspiration.  I know by the end of it you will want to give Paper Glaze a go, LOL....I can't be the only one who enjoys messing with this stuff and it creates the best backgrounds. I'm also playing with a variety of different stencils and stamps all from Picket Fence Studios.   What is Picket Fence Studios Paper Glaze? It's a jar full of smooth creamy medium used to create texture and shimmer in your paper crafting. You can mix it with Paper Glitz for more glimmer and/or Paper Glaze Enhancer to thicken it a bit and lighten the color. You can blend the colors together to make new colors The latest Paper Glaze Lux Ombre - Nutcracker Ballet already has glitz added to it.  With it's heavy body of mica and glitter infusion, it is beyond spectacular.  Adding depth and hues to your backgrounds. The Paper Glaze Ombre line is specially formulated and colored for perfect blending and Ombre effect.   How is Paper Glaze Applied: Paper Glaze is applied with palette knives, usually through a stencil to create a design. It can be applied randomly across cardstock for a splash of color. Or in gradient order to create the Ombre. It's spectacular on dark cardstock such as Navy or Black. Picket Fence Studios has a great selection of palette knives. What does the finished product look like? Once dry, Paper Glaze is very pliable, you can bend and cut the piece as you wish. You can also die cut card stock that has been Paper Glazed - however, an additional shim may be required. The Mica and colored Glitter included in the glaze is permanently attached to the cardstock and will not shed like glimmer paper does. While it adds beauty to your card backgrounds, it doesn't add extra weight. The beautiful sheen provides a professional finish for your cards.   How Long does Paper Glaze need to dry? In my experience about 20 - 25 minutes, but this will depend on a few things. How thick you apply the glaze: - You only need a very thin coat to create beautiful backgrounds. Note: in my video, at the end of each application, I turn my palette knife on edge, and scrape back to collect any excess sitting up on the stencil. The humidity where you live: I live in a very dry climate so mine dries quickly.  If you live in a higher humidity climate, you may find it takes a bit longer. Here are some of the finished cards created with the backgrounds I made in the video.  I also share these in the video and the supplies I used to create them.   Paper Glaze Ombre - Sunset Purples Paper Glaze Sunset Purples was added over the Framed Leaves Stencil in abstract, onto a piece of light purple card stock.  This combination creates this fun and interesting background for BFF Livi Girl. Next, Livi was colored with Copic Markers and then die cut out with the coordinating die. Two center panels were cut to add and highlight the sentiment. Livi was added with foam squares to add further dimension to the card. Finally, the card was embellished with purple gems from the Purple Side of a Rainbow Gem Mix.  There are also very nice purple sequins in the Frankie Comes to Town Sequin Mix.   Paper Glaze Ombre - Sky Blue Paper Glaze Ombre Sky Blue was added again through the Framed Leaves Stencil onto pale blue cardstock to create this background. This time a true Ombre effect was created by starting at the bottom with the darkest color and adding the lighter colors in order. The Lots of Christmas Cheer image was copic colored in similar hues.  Die cut with the coordinating dies and added to the card. The center panel was added with the sentiment, and to cover any glaze that got into the center of the stencil. Finally, the card was embellished with the pretty white 3/d snowflakes from the Icicles Sequin Mix. Paper Glaze Ombre - Sky blue with the Touch Ginger Tropical Flower: The same random application of card #1 was used for this background onto pale blue cardstock. Next the Touch Ginger Tropical flower was colored with copic markers, cut out with the coordinating die and added to the card. The sentiment was die cut 3 times and stacked before being attached to the card. Finally, the card was embellished with green gems from the Ocean of Green Gem Mix. Paper Glaze Ombre - Pumpkin Spice - Masculine Birthday Card The Pumpkin Spice glazes were added over the fabulous Slim Line Reverse Leaf Stencil onto white card to create this spectacular card front (not just for backgrounds my friends). Over that, the Happy Birthday Word Topper Die was cut in black and added to the card. Next, a strip of black was cut and added the entire length of the card, covering the bottom of the die cut. Finally, the card was embellished with the Autumn Leaves Gem Mix. Here is a second card done as above but in portrait orientation. The Pumpkin Spice Paper Glaze was added through the same Slimline Reverse Leaf Stencil onto Kraft colored card stock to add a more muted background for the art. Matting the art piece in a coordinating color really makes the red pop. The same Word Topper Die was used, this time trimmed down to fit the Slimline Card width. Paper Glaze Ombre - Fall Fashion - On Black Cardstock Try adding the Paper Glaze onto black cardstock for a very dramatic card. The Paper Glazes are Opaque so show up beautiful on light or dark card. The sentiment overlay for this one is the Happy Fall Y'all word topper die and then over stamped with the Word Topper Sub Titles Stamp Set. Finally, the card is embellished with the  Moon shad Gem Mix to add just a little more bling to an already fabulous card. Thanks so much for stopping by.  I had a blast creating these projects for you with the Ombre Paper Glazes.  I hope you will jump in and give them a try. Here is today's video for you    Products used in today's video: PICKET FENCE STUDIOS BUY ALL EIGHT: Paper Glaze Ombre Sets https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Word topper subtitles Stamp Set https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Slimline Reverse Leaf Stencil https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Happy Fall Y'all Word Topper https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Moon Shade Gem Mix https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Daisy Burst Stencil https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Slim Line Rainbow Stencil https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Slim Line Details of a Wing https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Happy Birthday Word Topper Die https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Autumn Leaves Gem Mix https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Vegas Baby Sequin Mix https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Torch Ginger Tropical Flower Stamp https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Torch Ginger Tropical Flower Die https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Ocean of Green Gem Mix https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS BFF Livi Girl Stamp https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS BFF Livi Girl Die https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Framed Leaves Stencil https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Purple Side of a Rainbow Gem Mix https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Mixed Media Spatulas https://pfstamps.com/products/mixed-m...

Seek To See More - Full Size Shaker Fun

by Lisa Tilson on Sep 29 2021
Hello there, it's Lisa here with you today to share a shaker card. I often make shakers but rarely a full size shaker so I thought I'd shaker it up a little! See what I did there? So here is what I came up with. It uses one of my favourite sets, Mermaid Dear, and I paired it with the A2 Tall Grass & Waves With Tile & Wood Floors stamp set for my background. To begin, I took some Tim Holtz Distress Watercolour cardstock and popped it into my MISTI. I repeat stamped the waves image from the A2 Tall Grass & Waves With Tile & Wood Floors set using Versmark Ink. I then applied white embossing powder and heat set. I smooshed some Distress Inks onto my glass media mat and spritzed them with some water and then took a paintbrush and applied them over the embossed waves area. I didn't go over the whole of the embossed area, but concentrated my colour in all areas but the top left corner. I used Mermaid Lagoon, Peacock Feathers and Cracked Pistachio - this is a great mix for water scenes, at least in my humble opinion. To build up the colour, I did a couple of layers, heat setting in between. I set the panel aside to air dry after the last layer had been added. This beautiful mermaid is from Mermaid Dear and she was stamped onto 80lb Neenah Solar White cardstock using PFS Black Hybrid Ink. I coloured her with Copic makers (the numbers are below) and then cut her out with the coordinating die before adhering her onto my watercoloured panel with wet adhesive. I then took an acetate sheet that was an inch larger than a normal A2 card and I cut a section from each corner so that I could wrap it around my watercoloured panel. I used double side tape to secure it at the back but left the top edge open so that I could add my sequins before finally sealing them in. My shaker mix was a combination of Mermaid Water Sequin Mix along with Spring Fling Sequin Mix. I added some of each into the front of the shaker and then sealed the top edge of the acetate at the back, again with strong double sided tape. The sentiment comes from Mermaid Dear and it was stamped onto black cardstock using sticky ink. I then added white embossing powder and heat set before trimming it out and adhering it onto the outside of the shaker panel with wet adhesive. To finish I added the shaker panel to a top folding A2 card. The movement of the sequins and the noise it makes is just fabulous! Copic numbers: Mermaid Skin (E70, E53, E51, E50, R20), Mermaid Hair (E55, E53, E51, E50), Mermaid Clothes (V17, V04, BG13, BG11), Puffer Fish (BV13, BV02, BV01) (BG32, BG13, BG11)

Hello!  It's Sara, from Much Love, Sara. Today, I'm sharing a fun Christmas card, created with a few products from this month's release.   I began this card by stamping the Winter Has Come to Town image onto white card stock, using Black Hybrid Ink.  I chose the house I wanted to use, and colored in the image, using my Prismacolor pencils.  Then, I fussy cut the house out.  Using the Clouds Die, I cut snow drifts to adhere around the base of the house.  While I had this stamp set out, I also stamped the sentiment onto dark green card stock, using Versamark ink, and then heat embossed it in copper.   On a piece of  kraft card stock, I stamped the Falling Pinecones image, using Gathered Twigs Distress Oxide Ink.   To complete the card, I assembled the pieces onto a white card base.   I hope you enjoyed today's card.  Find more cards using products from the September Release over on my blog.  Have a fantastic Tuesday!  Much Love,                                                  Sara

Northern Lights Magic with Paper Glaze Lux

by Rachelle Oltean on Sep 22 2021

Hello Crafters! It's Rachelle here and I've got a special card to share with you today: an easy CAS design featuring a background created with a brand new product from Picket Fence Studios...the Paper Glaze Lux Ombre "Nutcracker Ballet"!  Paper Glaze Lux is a mixed media glitter-based art medium, which blends heavy body mica with a glitter infusion, providing a MAXIMUM level of shine and thickness in a spreadable glitter glaze. Your application thickness allows you to determine the opacity level and so I experimented with painting a small, diluted amount directly onto black card stock and achieved a 'Northern Lights' Effect! You can see the base color of the pearly mica pigment body and the highlighted areas of glittery shine where the Lux was a bit thicker with color "C" from this Ombre collection! I was so excited with the result and this literally took me less than 5 minutes to create! After the Paper Glaze Lux panel was dry, I trimmed it down to 3.75" x 5" and attached it to the center of a top-folding A2 black card base. Using the "Santa's Snowy Hills" Die , I cut a panel from aqua card stock and trimmed off some of the silhouette, leaving a scattering of pine trees and the single house in the distance. This panel was cut to fit the width of the card front and adhered on top.  A sloped panel was cut to size from white card stock and the sentiment (from the "Winter Has Come To Town" Stamp Set) was stamped using my MISTI. I glued the small stamped/colored/die cut figure of the man carrying home his prize Christmas tree (from the "Winter Scene Building People") onto the sentiment panel, which was attached into place on the card front. A few "Spring Fling" Sequins finished up this clean-and-simple card! This design will be so easy to mass-produce and the effect of that painted Paper Glaze Lux is stunning in real life! I encourage you to stretch all of your Paper Glaze products by using them as painting mediums! Happy crafting and have a great day! Rachelle ♥

Capricorn Girl cards with Erica

by Erica Andersson-Burke on Sep 21 2021
Hi guys!  It's Erica back on the Picket Fence Studios blog with a couple of cards, using the new Capricorn Girl stamp and diecut. There are currently four girls in the Horoscope girl range and the idea is to have all of the star signs eventually. I'm waiting for the Taurus Girl, as a May birthday gal. Hint, hint, lol!    I have stamped the Capricorn Girl with Black Hybrid Ink on Copic friendly paper, with the help of a MISTI. I have then coloured them both up with LOADS of Copics, to get a couple of different looks. One girl got a silver hair look, and the other girl got turquoise hair.  Skin and makeup wise, they ended up quite similar. I'm experimenting a little with skin and makeup colouring, and currently I'm quite into contouring to bring the face to life. Sometimes it's a bit over the top, and other times it's more subtle. I definitely need to practice more though, so please be kind.  When the colouring was done, I used the coordinating diecut on the images and put those aside while I worked on the rest of the cards. Directly on a card base I have ink blended a background in a rainbow look, through the Details Of A Wing stencil. I've used a range of Life Changing Blender Brushes and a light hand to get a soft look. This card was turned into a birthday card with the help of the Happy Birthday Word Topper die, and I stamped up 'I hope you have a a fantastic day' with Black Hybrid ink on top. This is from the Word Topper Subtitles stamp set.  For the second card, I experimented with the new Paper Glitz over the Details Of A Wing stencil and Centre Flower stencil. On a blue card stock panel, I used the Details Of A Wing stencil with the Navy Wingtip Paper Glitz.  With Silver Bells Paper Glaze and the Centre Flower stencil, I used them on white card stock, and it looks AHHH-mazing! That mica and glitter are so gorgeous. It came through so perfect, and you don't need much! Don't go nuts, and slap on half a jar. You only need a little bit as it's so opaque.  When these were dry I puzzled a little back and forth, and the Silver Bells piece was trimmed down a little and I tried it with a black card base. That looked so good, and I also stamped up the sentiment from the Capricorn Girl on a strip of card stock, added that and a few Moon Shade gems. This colour combo made her eyes pop like crazy and I love that!  I used the same pieces on the blue background, and this made her hair kind of glow, which was unexpected. I love this with card making. You have a plan, you execute that plan (usually with a few detours, if you craft like I do) and then things do not end up like you think, but better! Never stop experimenting with your Cardmaking and crafting, you never know what you might end up with.  So, full disclosure, I didn't glue these pieces together, because I still wasn't sure I was ready to. I puzzled them together back and forth, took pictures and then fiddled some more. They still are not fully put together, but who knows, maybe soon I will find that bit that makes it all click into place.  The rainbow one was easy peasy, that one was done in like an hour. NO hesitation at all, I knew exactly how I wanted that one. Funny that, isn't it?  Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this post and the card, as well as the photos of the puzzled together ones. If you aren't sure what you want for your card, don't commit by glueing anything down. Walk away for a bit and come back with fresh eyes another day. Sometimes all you need is a break from looking at the same thing, and it will look differently the next day.  Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica

Stencil Fun With Waffle Flower

by Lydia Fiedler on Sep 15 2021

Hi friends! Lydia here for a SUPER fun blog hop with our sweet friends at Waffle Flower celebrating the awesome new Stencil mats! You know I was already a huge fan of the water media mat, and one of the reasons I am is how my paper doesn't move on it. So I think it's pretty genius that they designed two new ones for holding your paper while you stencil. A closed corner and an open corner mean the size of your paper doesn't interfere with the mat - in either size - the 6x9 (mini) or the 9x12. They clean up beautifully too. I have a no-fuss inlay technique for you today. I put a mini-slimline card base (I have mine pre-cut and scored because I'm lazy like that) onto the Mini Stencil mat and used temporary adhesive to hold the card closed while I got to work with Life Changing Blender Brushes, Distress Oxide Inks in Wilted Violet, Twisted Citron and Spiced Marmalade and the Jack 'O Lantern Stencil. I used Pixie Spray on the back of the stencil to hold it in place while I added ink. Then I did my no-fuss inlay! The key to this technique is to use a thicker cardstock - my slimline bases are 110# cardstock, so they are nice and sturdy and perfect for this technique. I used the Halloween Word Topper Die to cut into my ink blended card front, and because the cardstock is so thick, all the pieces don't fall out immediately - I just glued a thin layer of paper inside the card front to hide the back of the die cuts, being sure to get glue over all the letters and negative pieces, and voila! The greeting is cut into my scene - but no fiddly little pieces to inlay - just die cut and you're done. Very fun, clean look. Another cool thing about this mat is that if you have squirrel brain like I do, and you forget which brush you used for which color - just smoosh your ink onto the mat and pick it up from there - and then you won't contaminate your ink pad if you make a mistake with the brush!   Mini Stencil Mat [ WFF ] Happy Halloween Word Topper Die –... Coloring with Paper Glitz

by Karen Reategui on Sep 13 2021

Hello crafty friends! Today i'm sharing one of the cards that I made for the 7 in 7 event. On this slimline card I colored through a stencil using Paper Glitz and a dauber. The products that I used for this slimline card are Slim Line Oversized Joy to the World Die, Slim Line Cut Flower Stencil, Paper Glitz Autumn Persimmon,  Paper Glitz Lime Christmas Green, Paper Glitz True Christmas Red and Slim Line Die Cutting System.    I started by adding Pixie spray to the back of the Slim Line Cut Flower stencil, then I placed it on top of a heavy cardstock. I applied small quantities of Paper Glitz with dauber, coloring the center of the flower, the petals and the space around.  The colors I used were Paper Glitz Autumn Persimmon, Paper Glitz Lime Christmas Green, Paper Glitz True Christmas Red. Next, I let the panel dry for about 20 minutes. Paper Glitz is a medium that dries very fast which is very helpful. Once my panel was dry, I die cut it using a layering base die from the Slim Line Die Cutting System. I also added on top of this background a piece of velum. Then, I adhered a black folded card base. On a piece of cardstock I applied  Paper Glitz Autumn Persimmon using a spatula and let it dry. Once it was dry, I die cut the  Slim Line Oversized Joy to the World Die out of it. Additionally, I die cut another set of these dies out of white cardstock to be used as a shadow behind the die cuts with Paper Glitz Autumn Persimmon. Finally, I added the Joy to the World die cuts on top of the velum using tape runner and this Slimline Christmas card was ready. Below you will find a list of supplies that I used to created this card. I hope you like this card and give a try this very fun technique. Enjoy your week and happy crafting! Your friend,  Karen

Seamless Designs Stamps

by Sandi MacIver on Sep 10 2021
Hey cardmaking friends welcome back.  It's Sandi MacIver here and today I'm playing with Picket Fence Studios Seamless Designs Stamps.  Yesterday I pulled out some Seamless stamps and had a good look at them.  I'm totally amazed at how versatile they are.  I kind of hate when I spend money on a stamp set that I only use once, don't you?  Not so with these little guys and let me take a few minutes to explain why. Today I'm going to share a couple of cards I created with these Seamless Designs Stamps.  At the same time, tell you why I like them so much. Size of the Picket Fence Studios Seamless Designs Stamps: Don't be fooled by the size of these little guys.  They may be small at just over 3.5" square - but they are mighty. As they are small, they also come in at a nice low price point.  For a small investment, you get a HUGE return. Yesterday I created two A2 sized cards with two of these stamps: First way I like to use the Seamless Designs Collection: The first is this absolutely stunning Roses for All Seasons stamp and I created a simple A2 sized card with a small art piece on the front. I used a Misti to stamp the image in black and then heat embossed it in clear onto watercolor paper. Next, I colored it with my Karin watercolor pens. Unfortunately, we require a few sympathy cards so I used the Prayers Word Topper Die on this one. TIP - I could also change out the card front to the bright pink envelope color, change the sentiment die to Happy Birthday and completely change the feel of this card. Creating the Sentiment: Normally I would cut these word topper dies 3 or 4 times and stack them before adding them to my cards. Today, I cut one from a scrap of brown I had in my scrap bin, and gold heat embossed two layers onto it. The gold embossing really builds up and I have this beautiful sturdy sentiment which I glued across the bottom front of my art piece. Understated, but adds the perfect amount of bling.   My Second Card in the A2 Size: My second card is created the same as the first, just with a different stamp.  This one is new out in August called A Medley of Fall Collage. The image is stamped once  and colored with Karin Markers. The Happy Fall Y'all Sentiment was created in the same manner as above.   So, why are these called Seamless Designs Stamps? Because you can use your Misti or other stamping tool, and you can repeat stamp these little guys to create a larger stamped surface. Their edge illustration is created to line up with the illustration on the opposite side for "seamless continuous stamping". (cool or what). The Second Way I used the Seamless Designs Stamps: This Slimline Pumpkin card shows how I lined up the All the Gourds Seamless Stamp and stamped horizontally across the card stock three times to create my Slimline Card front.     Here's another example using the More Hot Chicks Seamless Stamp.  Again, stamped three times horizontally, colored and made into a slimline card with the PFS slimline dies. There is a video for this card here. You can stamp Seamless the other way too: Not only do these stamps line up horizontally, but the illustration also lines up vertically.   The Third Way I like to use the Seamless Designs Stamps: In the card sample above, I used my Misti to stamp the image three times vertically to create an understated background for my card. Lining up the stamp to continue the repeat is very easy, as there are little pieces of the image you use to overlap for the continuous stamped image. You can get the details for this card here: Here is another vertical stamped example where I used the creepy Marching Spiders Seamless Designs Stamp to create the background for my Halloween card. Card Details here:   The Fourth Way I like to use the Seamless Designs Stamp: You can stamp it twice horizontally, then move up and stamp twice vertically to create an entire A2 sized card front. TIP - you can also stamp vertically twice to create a background for a Mini Slimline Card, and I'll do one of those shortly as well.   Where to get Seamless Designs Stamps. Picket Fence Studios introduced these these to me and you can see their collection here.  Storing the Seamless Designs Collection Stamps: As I said in the beginning, these little guys are small.  So, they take up a very little bit of space, unlike some of the HUGE slimline stamps I have purchased recently. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my slimline stamps and dies LOL, I just had to adjust my storage to compensate the tall storage.     I subscribe to the Jennifer McGuire storage system of Fridge Bins (I order mine from Amazon), and these little guys fit perfectly in the 6" x 10" bins  Thanks so much for stopping in and I hope you enjoyed today's cards.  Give a Seamless Designs Stamp a try and then come on over to the Picket Fence Studios Facebook Group and share it with us. You Are Nothing Short Of Amazing

by Lisa Tilson on Sep 08 2021
Hello everyone, Lisa here today to share an Autumnal card with you, but with a very clean and simple vibe. For today's card I thought I would use one of the Slim Line Die Cutting System Inserts, but on an A2 card and also not as an insert! It's always good to find different ways to use the dies you have and these inserts can work really well not just as an insert but also as a standalone die. You can stack them up, which is sort of what I did for my card and I used the lovely Tree Scenery Insert. Isn't that tree just so pretty? I began by creating my stripey background and for this I just cut some strips of red, yellow and orange cardstocks and adhered them onto a piece of printer paper that I had added some Stick It Adhesive to. I then used wet adhesive to glue the stripey panel onto a top folding A2 110lb white base card, trimming off any excess at the sides. Next I took the Tree Scenery die and die cut it from 110lb Neenah Solar White cardstock. I then took a slightly larger circle die and cut it again to create the narrow circular frame. Now, here is the bit where I should have done things a bit differently. I added tiny bits of foam tape behind the tree and circle frame which was very fiddly and although it worked out alright, it wasn't as stable as I would have liked it to be. What I should have done was cut 2 or 3 more trees the same way and then adhered them together to create a stack. That would definitely have been easier and would have been more stable. Having said that I do like that it has a less chunky/chipboard feel to it. Swings and roundabouts! Before removing the paper from the tape and adding the tree onto the base card, I popped the card into the MISTI and took a sentiment from Nothing Short Of Amazing and stamped it using Black Hybrid Ink. I then removed the paper from the foam tape and adhered the tree down before embellishing it with a few gems from Autumn Leaves Gem Mix. I do think that the card turned out looking really pretty. I always love the drama and contrast of a pretty die against a bright stripey background. I hope that this gives you some inspiration for your insert dies. Until next time, have a great day and happy crafting!
