Stenciled Backgrounds with Judy

by Judy Rozema on Feb 22 2021
Have you had a chance to check out the February release at Picket Fence Studios? Today I am sharing two cards using two of the new stencils released on the 14th of this month. First up is this colorful Center Flower 6x6 Stencil. I used two colors of Distress Oxide Ink and my Life Changing Blender Brushes for the ink blended background. I stamped one of the flower groups and a sentiment from the previously released Que Sera Sera to finish the card. I used the Coordinating Die to cut out the flowers after they were Copic colored.  Next up is the English Brick Wall 6x6 Stencil. I used a partial stencil with DOX ink, and added one of the pens from Color Like A Bird Sings (January release) and the new Fancy Congratulations Sentiments (best news ever) for the sentiment. A true CAS! There is much more to see, so head over to SHOP to see it all and grab yourself a surprise!

All Glazed Up! New Paper Glaze from PFS!

by Judy Rozema on Feb 01 2021

Hello everyone! Happy February! I always feel like once we get into February (even though there are many more winter days here, and some the worst) that Spring is on the horizon. At least that is what gets me there! This being said while we have a foot of snow and sub zero temps this week. Ha! Well, today I am sharing a sunny outlook with you, showing off the new Yellow Primrose Paper Glaze from Picket Fence Studios! There are three new pastel colors in the January release, and I adore them so much, they have become my new favorite colors! Very shimmery and subtle! I started with the new Slimline Rising Sun Stencil, and added the Paper Glaze with my palette knife. I gave it a pretty good thickness, and let it dry for several minutes. When almost dry, I added a thin layer of SPRK037 Gold Dust Essential Sparkle from WOW! Embossing on top of the glaze at the bottom. It sticks beautifully if the glaze is not totally dry. I then set aside to dry overnight. It doesn't actually take that long, but I wanted it to be ready for my heat gun. The next day I tapped my card to loosen the Sparkles that did not stick, and stamped the sentiment from Life Happens, Lashes Help with my WOW! Embossing Pad. The WC01 Metallic Gold Rich Pale Embossing Powder was a perfect complement to my glaze and glitter.  Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you will try some of the glazes. There are many colors to choose from. Just a couple of tips: Be sure to clean your stencils right away, as once dry, it's pretty much glazed always. And try mixing your own colors by combining glazes! You can find more of my projects at JOY IN A JAR.

Buzzing With Fun!

by Judy Rozema on Oct 23 2020
Today I want to share a fun card with a buzzing bee theme! This month's October Release has some really fun bee themed stamps and stencils, and I am sharing one of them today! First up this week is Honey Dear, a fun single stamp with a sweet sentiment.  I stamped with Black Hybrid Ink, and then colored in using my Copics. I gave the entire image and outline in B000. I cut it out with the coordinating die, and adhered it to my sentiment stamped patterned paper. A little gold thread, some shimmer for the wings (Nuvo Glimmer Pen) and done!     A precious card with a sweet sentiment for my granddaughter! You can see the entire October release {HERE}. Happy Shopping! Thanks for stopping by today.

The October Picket Fence Studios release is here and it's one of my favorites! Have you had a chance to check it out? Today I am sharing a trio of cards made with the new Maple Leaves Dies. All of my cards today are using the same color scheme and style - clean and simple, along with inchies! You can find the entire release HERE. Happy Shopping! All of the leaves were made with a "brayer cleaning sheet" from my Gel Press printmaking days awhile back. I love how they turned out. I like the touch of pink with the fall orange, red, and gold. First up is a card using the larger of the dies, and a sentiment from Dad's Day. My second card uses the smaller of the Maple Leaves Die, and a sentiment from Weathering the Storm Together.  Here is the brayer sheet as I started cutting: And finally, the third of the trio uses the new Thank You for Being You stamp set, as well as the larger die. There are two other new leaf dies as well, that are just as fabulous, so be sure to check them out too!

An Ocean of Birthday Wishes

Hello Everyone! Today I am sharing a fun ocean card using One Year Older. It's a fabulous set with five different wispy fish and a cute school of them - plus some fun matching sentiments. I used my Life Changing Brushes and a Blending Circle stencil to make the water circle with Distress Oxide inks, and then stamped the school of fish with VersaFine Clair Morning Mist, which is a nice combination between navy and gray. I colored the larger fish with Copic markers (Black Hybrid ink), and then cut him out with the coordinating die. I also stamped the sentiment in Black Hybrid ink, and made a little fishtail banner. Finally, I added some metallic blue thread from my fancy thread stash and some flat water bubble embellishments. It makes for such an adorable birthday greeting! The End of Summer is Near

by Judy Rozema on Sep 10 2020
We had a (very) cold front move in yesterday. One day it was 96, and two days later, rain and a high of 45. That tells me that the end of summer is near. And while this coming week will be sunny and warm, I know fall is on the way. But before it officially gets here, I wanted to share a beachy summer card with you! The NAUTILUS SHELL SCENE is one of my favorite summer images. It has the perfect combination of shell and beachy foliage. In today's card, I used a smooshed watercolor background, and stamped my image with Black Hybrid Ink. I used my Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor pencils to shade and add a bit of color. To make the sentiment (I MISS YOU WORD DIE) stand out, I cut it from black fun foam. You could get the same effect from cutting several from black cardstock and gluing and stacking them together. For the background, I used the CURRENT OF FISH stencil, and embossed it as an "embossing folder" through my die cutting machine, then inked the fish with a light neutral color. And, finally, I added a few sequins for a little ocean sparkle. A wonderful reminder of trips to the beach, and searching for shells. I live in the middle of the country (Nebraska), so am really looking forward to a beach trip again someday! Thanks for stopping by! You can find links to the products I used below, and more of my projects on my blog, Joy in a JAR.

Creating 4x4 Repeating Backgrounds with Judy Rozema

by Judy Rozema on Aug 17 2020
Hello Everyone! Happy Monday!Today I am sharing creations made with 4x4 repeating background stamps. These stamps are fabulous, not only for their images, but because you can make them as large or as small as you would like. They repeat on all four sides, making them easy to line up to create larger backgrounds. First up is Moths from the August release. With this card, I stamped twice (one on top of each other) using Versamark ink. The MISTI makes lining things up so easy! I embossed with Clear Embossing Powder to make those little moths shine. I found some patterned paper that coordinated with my cardstock, and added twine down the side. Can you find the hidden sequins on some of the dots? They are from the Screwdriver Sequin Mix. The sentiment is from the previously released A Dose of Vitamin Sea. Next up is the previously released Reindeer Games. These tiny little guys will steal your Christmas cardmaking heart! They are so cute. With this card, I stamped and lined up four times: once on top, and twice on the sides for a wider image panel. It has a similar layout with twine, patterned paper and a single sentiment, which is from Inside Quotes: Christmas. My background was made using a smooshed ink technique with Distress Oxide inks. Next is On A Seahorse's Dreams, where I used just the 4x4 image, without adding any additional image stamping. I embossed with Gold EP, and added some metallic thread. The sentiment is the I Miss You Word Die. While it is currently sold out (you can see why - it's awesome!), there are many others that you could use in its place. The background on this card is a watercolor wash. The base panel is printed vellum on black cardstock. Next up is Loads of Mail. With this card, I stamped and lined up twice - on top of each other, but used less of the width, to have room for the sentiment. So it's less than 4 inches wide. But what a graphic statement it made for this card! I used a sentiment from Spotlight on You down the side, and the awesome Paul James Guy (and die!) for a masculine birthday card. Finally, while it's fun to line up and repeat, it's also fun to use partial images, as I did above, but even more so with the newly released Hope Ribbons. I used a circle die to cut out different sizes and make an uplifting card, using orange, which is the ribbon support color for Leukemia. The sentiment is from A Dose of Vitamin Sea. Those little rhinestones added a touch of sparkling hope! I hope you have enjoyed this look at some of the 4x4 repeating background stamps, and will give them a try! I definitely recommend the MISTI to help you succeed in lining up the images! You can see more of my projects (including other 4x4) on my blog:Joy in a JAR.

More July Release Fun with Judy Rozema

by Judy Rozema on Jul 27 2020
The July release has some COOL products - yep! Christmas and Fall goodies so you have plenty of time to work on those cards for the cooler months. Today I am sharing three cards for today's post; two are made to highlight the new stencils, and one is with a new stamp. The first is a beautiful floral stencil called SHADING FLOWER STENCIL. I used my Wendy Vecchi Make Art Stay-tion to hold the stencil on my cardstock, and then used Broken China and Peeled Paint DOX inks to color my flowers and leaves. I added some silver Krenik thread and sequins from the Spiked Ocean Water and Gin and Tonic mixes for embellishments and sparkle! The sentiment is from the new MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR stamp set, stamped with BLACK HYBRID ink. My next card shows how easy it is to increase the 4x4 size of AUTUMN HARVEST COLLAGE, and line up the images beautifully in the repeating pattern using the MISTI. The background and middle strip are made with the smooshed ink technique, using Dusty Concord and Twisted Citron DOX inks. Once that was dry, I stamped the background stamp four times (twice vertically and twice horizontally) to fill out the width and height of my card panel. I used VersaFine Clair Morning Mist - a little gray/blue ink combo. I finished off the card with a simple gold metallic thread from Krenik. My final card today moves to Christmas with the FLOWER OF LIFE STENCIL. I again used my Wendy Vecchi Stay-tion (it makes stenciling SO much faster!) to hold my stencil in place. Festive Berries DOX was my color of choice here. I wanted to give the illusion of red poinsettias and/or Christmas plaid by fading out the edges. My sentiment is from the new BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE stamp set, stamped in BLACK HYBRID ink. I added clear rhinestones in the center of each flower.   It's a simply fabulous release, so head over to see it all! There is so MUCH MORE to check out! Shop {HERE} or click one of the links below! Don't miss the BIG RETIREMENT SALE going on too! Lots of fabulous products at slashed prices. Grab them before they are gone!    You can see more of my projects on my blog: Joy in a JAR.

It's All About the Lime!

by Judy Rozema on Jul 06 2020
Today I am sharing three foodie cards for today's post; two are made with the new Fruitylicious stamp. While this fruit could be any citrus, I chose to make two lime cards today, because limes are my favorite citrus fruit. The first is a cute shaker card using the Gin and Tonic Sequin Mix. You will love the new mixes -- different sizes and shapes, all in a beautiful easy-to-see packaging! I stamped with VersaMark ink, and then embossed with Bullfrog EP. I colored with Copic markers, making one of the limes stand out with brighter colors, and Stickles around the rind. I added some fun lime patterned paper for a little interest on the back panel. My sentiment is from the previously released Pucker Up. My next card shows how easy it is to increase the 4x4 size, and line up the images beautifully in the repeating pattern using the MISTI. I again embossed with the Bullfrog EP, and colored with Copics, using a brighter palette. My sentiment is stamped in VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink. I added three strands of Krenik silver metallic thread between the two panels. My final card today is also food related -- from the new Cooking is Art with a partial background using the new Triple Weave Stencil. I used Gina K's Blue Raspberry ink with my stencil and Life Changing Blender Brushes. I stamped the chef in Black Hybrid ink and colored with Copics. I fussy cut him out, and popped him up with foam tape. The sentiment is stamped with VersaFine Clair Morning Mist. And of course, there is lime on that shrimp! It's a simply fabulous release, so head over to Picket Fence Studios to see it all! There is so MUCH MORE to check out! Shop {HERE} or click one of the links below! Don't miss the BIG RETIREMENT SALE going on too! Lots of fabulous products at slashed prices. Grab them before they are gone!

Special Celebrations/Let's Pucker Up with Judy Rozema!

by Judy Rozema on May 25 2020
Before I share my card today, I want to recognize the special day that it is here today in the USA. Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the military personnel who had died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Thank you to all of our military families who have sacrificed for our freedom! It is also my mother-in-law's 90th birthday! What a milestone. And a wonderful lady! I am sending her this card just "because." On to my project: I have chosen Pucker Up for my card this week. I used Layers of Clouds Stencil for my background, and added soft sponging with Tumbled Glass DOX. I didn't want the background to overshadow the bright lemons! I stamped the sentiment to one side. Images were stamped with Black Hybrid ink and colored using Copic markers.  The lemon branch was cut out using the coordinating die. I love that it cuts the middle out too! Perfect! I added a trio of sunny lemon sequins to finish the card. Thank you for taking the time to stop by today. Hope you are healthy and staying safe! Don't forget the sale + free shipping happening through midnight tonight! Code: MEMORIAL20 You can find more of my projects at my IG account: @joy_in_a_jar or on my blog of the same name. Add Color With Your Stencils!

by Judy Rozema on Apr 13 2020
I love working with stencils for making backgrounds, don't you? The Fancy Flourish Stencil is a beautiful design, and was a perfect choice for Sandra Girl. I used VersaFine Clair Warm Breeze ink and my Life Changing Blender Brushes to create the background. The sentiment from Fancy Sentiments was stamped right on top of the stenciled backgound with VersaFine Clair Nocturne. Sandra Girl and her butterfly were stamped on Hammermill White and cut out using the coordinating die. I backed the main panel with Peacock Curios Metallic cardstock and the base is Hammermill White.  I colored in her flower with a Copic marker. I love how it turned out! Have You Tried Paper Glaze?

by Judy Rozema on Mar 23 2020
The new Paper Glaze at Picket Fence Studios is so much fun to work with! This is the Snowdrop White on red cardstock with the Always Word Die and Fancy Flourishes Stencil. I taped my stencil down with Purple Tape, and then used a palette knife to apply the glaze. You have to work fairly quickly, as it dries quickly! Once completely dry, I adhered my word die (cut from Silver Metallic cardstock, and backed with red and gray cardstock) and some fun clear rhinestones for added shine! A super elegant valentine or anniversary card!  Be sure to check out all the colors of the Paper Glaze - they are lovely! You can find more of my projects on my blog at Joy in a JAR.

Flowers for Picking with Judy Rozema

by Judy Rozema on Feb 10 2020
Today I am sharing a one of the new stamp sets from the January Creativation Release. What a fabulous release! I hope you have had a chance to check it out. For this card I used the adorable FLOWERS FOR PICKING. Now, if you look through my work, you won't see a lot of flower images. I love them, I just don't usually stamp with them for some reason. But these are so cute and fun to color. I made a monochrome card using a favorite color family, and colored the flowers with my alcohol markers. Then I cut them out using the coordinating dies, and made a round card. I had a scrap of patterned paper that matched, and added a sentiment from the previously released BECAUSE. And because we all like sparkle without the mess, I added some shimmer with my Glitter Pen to all the flower centers. The card base is my favorite shimmery silver cardstock from CutCardStock (Curious Metallic Ice Silver). These flowers make such a sweet greeting! You can find more of my projects at Joy in a JAR.

Today I am sharing two cards using the newly released LET'S DECORATE and CHEAT DAY. My main cake images from LET'S DECORATE were then stamped and colored with Copics. I cut them out with the coordinating dies, and popped them up with foam tape. A few baubles for fun, and it's all done! My second card uses the same black ink, Copics, and Abandoned Coral for the cake and stenciling. I used just the corners of the new QUATREFOIL BOUQUET stencil. Some patterned paper for an added layer, and this second card is a peachy beauty! And to clean my stamps?
