Winter Floral with Rachelle

by Rachelle Oltean on Sep 01 2021
Happy Wednesday! It's Rachelle with you today and can you believe it's September 1st already??? I had to look at the calendar twice just to be sure it was correct and that means it's time to get rolling on Christmas and holiday cards right now! The recent Picket Fence Studios' releases have been full of wonderful new products to get our Christmas crafting off on the right foot! I send out quite a few cards to folks who don't celebrate Christmas and the card today is the perfect way to share a bit of general winter and/or holiday cheer! I used the NEW "A Christmas Flower" Stamp Set to create this winter floral card design. I began with an A2 panel of 110# Neenah Solar White card stock and using my MISTI, I aligned the poinsettia image in the top left corner of the panel bleeding off the edge. I stamped this image using Picket Fence Studios "Black Hybrid Ink"  and then turned the panel 180 degrees and stamped it again so that the image appeared in opposite corners.  I watercolored the poinsettias, spattered the panels with diluted paints and then added a graduated blue wash around the flowers for a bit of depth. I went back into the images with a tiny paint brush (a 000) and using my gold paint, added touches of fine detail throughout; this panel was trimmed to 3.75" x 5". I heat embossed the sentiment from the "A Happy Winter To You" Stamp Set with fine gold powder onto heavy-weight vellum, trimmed it to size and wrapped it around the floral panel, securing it behind. This was attached to an A2 top-folding black card base and I added a few matte gold sequins from the NEW "Pumpkin Cookies" Sequin Mix Plus to finish up the card! I just love the sprinkling of gold on this design and those gorgeous poinsettias are the star of the show! There are so many different ways to color this beautiful image and be sure to check out Picket Fence Studios' Instagram Page where you'll find great design inspiration! Thanks so much for joining me today and happy crafting! Rachelle

Whooo Are You two ways and VIDEO!

by Erica Andersson-Burke on Aug 30 2021
Hi guys,  it's Erica back on the Picket Fence Studio blog AND the YouTube channel today! I have two cards to show you, and as mentioned, there is a video for it too, so I'd love it if you'd check that out as well.  I have used the Whooo Are You stamp and coordinating die set for these two cards.  Now, I will admit that when I first saw this guy I was a bit like 'hmm, I don't think this is going to be my fave' but once I started colouring him, I fell in love!! Oh, my, he's so fun to colour!!  I stamped him up both with Black Hybrid ink, as well as with Fadeout Ink from Inkon3, with my MISTI, so I could do one no-line-colouring. They both turned out fab, if I may say so myself. So fun to colour! (I know I already said that but it's true) and major plus point for having a coordinating diecut!  For the backgrounds I wanted to show two different techniques, and two of my faves include ink blending with the Life Changing Blender Brushes and the other is using my beloved Paper Glazes. I can not understate how obsessed I am with Paper Glazes, they are so amazing and give such fun results! I used Paper Glazes for both the lives I did in the Picket Fence Studios Community Facebook group, where we host fun lives and classes sometimes. You should definitely join us there if you haven't already!  In the video you will see me ink blending another background, which I didn't end up using, and off-camera I ink blended the one I actually used. As we are heading towards fall and the owl is a night time creature, I felt the ominous orangey-red one was a better choice. It also matched the eyes on the owl a bit better.  On the Paper Glaze background I ended up reusing(/re-purposing?) a scrap piece that I had scraped off some excess Paper Glaze from another play session. It wasn't long enough for the slim line card I was planning on making with it, so I added more Paper Glaze in Black Pansy, Lime Zinnia, Daffodil Yellow and Ocean Poppy.  Armed with lots of black card stock, I ran both the A2 Tree Silhouette cover die, the Slim line Tree Silhouette Cover die and the Spider Web cover dies through my diecutting machine, and set these aside while I worked on my sentiments.  I had a super cheesy idea for this, but bear with me. As the owl is a predator, I wanted to use the 'I love your face' word topper die, and then add 'yum' by cutting out the letter with the Seeing Double Alpha dies. See what I mean? So cheesy, lol!  Oh, by the way, that YUM was cut out of homemade glitter card stock made with Black Rainbow Paper Glitz!  The second sentiment is also done with a word topper, only this time the Hello one. This time I cut it out of white card stock, which might have been a bit of a mistake, I should have done it in black card stock again but oh well.  For this sentiment I also went cheesy. Of course. So while I had the Hello word topper, my die cutting machine and the card stock out, I cut out some extra O's to make the Hello into a Hellooooo. I didn't like it white so I blended a little bit of the black and blue ink left on my brushes over it.  The final part of the sentiment was the 'whooo are you?' from the stamp set, which I stamped on white card stock and cut out with the coordinating diecut.  To assemble these, I used liquid glue to make sure I could adjust all the pieces and line them up perfectly. Especially the A2 card as I layered up the tree silhouette piece on top of the spider web diecut. The owls were tucked into the Tree Silhouette pieces on each card and then the sentiments were added and we were done!  Over on the Picket Fence Studios YouTube channel you can catch the video for these two cards as well!  Thank you so much for stopping by today, I really hope you like the cards and found some inspiration here with me.  Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica

Scene Cards with Larisa

by Larisa Hohman on Aug 25 2021
Hello, Larisa here and today I'm sharing a couple of scene cards featuring the New Release!   For my first card, I paired the NEW Lots of Christmas Cheer Stamp Set with the NEW Slim Line Our Town Cover Plate Die.  To begin, I started with the Scallop Frames Slim Line Die Cutting System and used it to cut a piece of white card stock and a red scalloped piece to mat behind it.  Using my Life Changing Blender Brushes, I added some blue distress ink to the background.  Then I die cut a piece of black card stock with the Our Town Cover Plate Die.  I adhered that to the center of my background piece.  Then I tore a piece of white card stock and added that just under the town to mimic the look of snow.  I stamped out the grouped animal image, colored it using Copic Markers and cut it out using the coordinating die.  Using foam tape, I added it to the right side of the card.  On the left side, I stamped my sentiment in black ink.  For the final touch, I added several tiny snowflakes from the NEW Santa Is Here Slim Line Die Cutting System Insert.   My next card is a fun little back-to-school scene that features two of the little cuties from the NEW Your Next Book Dear Stamp Set.  To create this card, I stamped out the NEW Medley of Fall Collage Stamp in red ink on orange paper.  Then I trimmed that into a square.  Across the bottom, I added a skinny piece of grey card stock.  On top of that some die cut grass.  Then I stamped out my images, colored them up with Copics, and cut them out using the coordinating dies.  I used foam tape to add them to my scene and stamped my sentiment just below.   Thank you so much for stopping by!  Happy Crafting! Non Traditional Colors for a Fall Shaker Card

by Karen Reategui on Aug 23 2021

Hello crafty friends! I'm so happy to be back and today I'm sharing with all of you one of the cards that I made at the 7 in 7 event. This is a Fall shaker card with non traditional colors featuring the Medley of Fall Collage stamp part of the Seamless Collection. I started this card, that looks like a mini slimline card, by stamping the images using Gingerbread Hybrid ink from Scrapbook.com over watercolor paper. For this technique I also used a Misti.      Then, I colored all images with teals, greens and browns shades. I fabulous and quick way to color a background with lots of images is using Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers and a watercolor brush.     Once I finished watercoloring, I trimmed down this panel and additionally I cut another panel a bit larger but this time out of Neenah Desert Storm. I placed this panel behind the watercolor panel and added a bit of washi tape on each side to secure both panel because I run these through my die cutting machine using the small circle frame die from the Scallop Frames Slim Line Die Cutting System.         Once I had the shaker window created I took off the washi tape and then I adhered a piece of acetate to the back of the watercolor panel. I placed back the larger panel and used glue to adhered both panels.  Also, I added foam tape all around the back of these panels, removed the backing paper and placed the Pumpkins Cookies Embellishment Plus Mixes on top of my cad base. Next, I closed the shaker window and the shaker was created!     As a final touch, I die cut using again the small circle frame die from the Scallop Frames Slim Line Die Cutting System out of a teal cardstock and added it around the shaker window. Last, I stamp my sentiment using Autumn Fancy Sentiments stamp and placed it under the shaker and this card was finished!   I really hope you enjoyed this card and for those who attended the 7 in 7 event thank you so much for all your support, we had so much fun! Also for the ones who couldn't join my class at this event, you can check out the replay where I show you how to make this and one more card, link here.  Below you will find the list of supplies that I used to create this Fall shaker card. Have a fantastic week, your friend, Karen

Happy Fall Y'all

by Sandi MacIver on Aug 20 2021
Happy Fall Y'all, it's Sandi MacIver here and today I'm sharing two cards created with more new products from Picket Fence Studios August Release.  Fall is sneaking up on us quickly, too quickly it seems, which prompted me to create these two cards. So let's talk backgrounds.  In creating today's cards, I decided to focus on some fun backgrounds and two different ways to create them. Sometimes when you want to create a quick and easy card, it can look a little naked with just a couple of die cuts attached to the front right? By simply adding a tone on tone stamped background, you create depth and interest solving that problem.   Happy Fall Y'all - Slimline Card To add some "background noise" as I like to call it, I used the A Medley of Fall Collage repeating stamp. Stamp tone on tone to create this background using either a VersaMark stamp that will create a watermark look.  Or you can use a similar color ink as your background cardstock.  i.e.  in my image above, Kraft Ink on Kraft cardstock. Next, use the Misti Stamping Tool to align the repeating stamp to stamp the entire front of your slimline piece. This is a quick and easy way to add a beautiful coordinating background to your card. Cut the Prayers Word Topper Die in Mirror Gold paper and attach to card front. Finally, die cut leaves from watercolor paper, add a quick watercolor wash in fall colors and attach. To embellish, I added some Pumpkin Cookies Sequin Mix for a little bling and to frame my art pieces.  The gold sequins match my sentiment, and I love the little pumpkin images in these sequins, so fun. Cardmaking Background Idea #2 The second background idea is also easy, just not quite so quick. Take the beautiful leaf dies from Picket Fence Studios: Maple Leaves Dies Ash Leaves Dies Oak Leaves Dies Die cut them out of the same card stock as the base card. Next, glue them all over the front of the card base.   Die cut the Happy Fall Y'all Word Topper Die from Mirror Gold (love this die so much and it cut's beautifully). Again, die cut more leaves from watercolor paper, and add a quick watercolor wash in fall colors. Attach both to the card front. Finally, I'm over the moon for the Autumn Leaves Gem Mix.  These gems have many faucets cut in them and are super sparkly in beautiful colors. So, I glued them all over the front of this card in between all my background leaves.  Talk about bling, so fun.   There you go, two quick and easy ways to add depth and interest to your die cut cards.  I hope you will give both ideas a try.          used for the Picket Fence Studios Happy Fall Y'all Cards: Here are the products I used today.  Compensated affiliate links used  where available at no cost to you. Books Take You Places

by Lisa Tilson on Aug 18 2021
Hello everyone, Lisa here today to share a card with you featuring two sweet book lovin' school friends! The featured set is part of the new release and is called Your Next Book Dear. It is perfect for kids returning to school but also it is a great set for all book lovers out there. For my card today, I use the little girl and boy walking to school. To begin, I stamped the boy and girl onto Neenah 80lb cardstock using Black Hybrid Ink. I coloured them with Copics and then I cut them out with the coordinating dies and set them to one side. I masked off the bottom part of an A2 white panel and took the Slim Line Horizontal English Brick Wall Stencil and secured that over the top section of the panel. Using Life Changing Blender Brushes, I blended a subtle wall using Salvaged Patina Distress Oxide ink. I then removed the stencil and took the tiled floor image from Slim Line Grass & Waves With Tile and Wood Floor stamp set. I could have used the A2 version of this set but the tiles in the slim line version are bigger so I thought they would work well with the larger brick. So, I stamped them down using Black Hybrid Ink and I then blended Pumice Stone Distress ink over the top using Life Changing Blender Brushes. It's very soft in the photos but in real life it is an ombre blend with the darker section at the bottom of the wall. I trimmed the panel down and matted it onto a turquoise card base using double sided tape. The sentiment is from the set and was stamped using Versamark Ink onto black cardstock. I added white embossing powder and heat set. The girl, boy and sentiment were all popped up with foam tape for dimension. Aren't they just so sweet with their big smiles. I'd like to hope that I smiled like that on the way to school but I'm not sure it was every day! Until next time, I hope that you have a great day!

Hello!  It's Sara, from Much Love, Sara.  I have a Halloween card to share with your today - nothing spooky about this one, however.  The adorable image makes this a fun card for kids and adults alike.   For today's card, I began by stamping the image from the Hocus Pocus Dear Stamp, with Black Hybrid Ink, and coloring in the image with Prismacolor Pencils.  Once I had the image the way I wanted, including a fun green glow coming from her crystal ball, I die cut it using the coordinating die.

Guardian of the Graveyard!

by Rachelle Oltean on Aug 11 2021
Hello! It’s Rachelle and I’ve got a spooky graveyard ‘rocker’ card for you today featuring lots of the amazing Halloween products from the July Release! I began by die cutting a 5” circle from heavy weight black card stock and scoring it in half to create my ‘rocking’ card base. I applied “Lime Christmas Green Paper Glitz” to the bottom half and set it aside to dry. A second 4.75” circle was die cut twice from heavy weight orange card stock, glued together, coated with “Autumn Persimmon Paper Glitz” and set it aside to dry as well. The standing ghost from the “Not Scared? You Should Be!” Stamp Set was heat embossed with white power on heavy vellum and fussy cut. Since there are a lot of small intricate pieces on this gorgeous scene, I die cut the “Halloween Graveyard Cover Plate Die” on heavy black card stock using my metal plate adaptor and it cut perfectly! I backed the windows in the haunted house with lime green card stock to coordinate with my Paper Glitz, heat embossed the sassy sentiment and added some sequins from the “Trick Or Treaters” Sequins Mix Plus. To assemble, I reinforced the score line on the ‘rocking’ card base with my Teflon Bone Folder and attached the orange Paper Glitz circle with Scor-Tape. After determining the ghost’s position, it was adhered in place onto the orange backdrop and the graveyard die cut panel was attached on top with foam tape and liquid adhesive. A couple of tiny die cut bats (from the Witch Slim Line Die Cutting System Insert) were added to finish up the card! I just love this interactive design and that giant ghost guarding the graveyard as it rocks from side to side! Thanks so much for joining me today and happy crafting! Rachelle

Let's Pucker Up No-line colouring!

by Erica Andersson-Burke on Aug 10 2021

Hi guys!  It's Erica, in full summer mode, on the blog today! As it's full-on summer here in Spain, and it's hot, hot, hot, I´m really into limonada (Spanish lemonade) to cool me down. It's so refreshing and zesty. I love it!  I'm incorporating my love for limonada in today's post by making a card with the Pucker Up stamp set, that is a couple of lemons hanging from a branch. I decided to do some no-line colouring with Copics, so I stamped it up with Fadeout Ink from Ink On 3 and my Mini MISTI, to make sure I got a solid print with the ink.  The Copics are yellows for the citruses, greens for the leaves and browns for the branches. It probably took about half an hour to colour this, thanks to the no-line colouring way of doing it. It will take less time if you stamp it up with Black Hybrid ink and just coloured in the images. I wanted to use the Seeing Double Alpha dies and spell out ´zest´ but I wanted sparkly card stock, so I grabbed the Lime Christmas Green paper glitz and spread some on a piece of card stock. This I set aside to dry thoroughly before doing anything else with it. In the Pucker Up stamp set there is a sentiment that says ´sweet with a little sass´ and I customised it to say ´sweet with a little zest´ by cutting out the letters and puzzling the sentiment together. That's one of the fab ways of stretching your sentiments that you already have, with the help of an alphabet die set, so this is a must have in your stash.  That's it from me for today, but I hope you like the card!  Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica

Monochromatic Christmas Cards

by Sandi MacIver on Jul 30 2021
Monochromatic Christmas cards: Hey cardmaking friends, welcome back.  Sandi MacIver here with a little Christmas Card inspiration for you today. Christmas in July seems to be the theme all over the cardmaking world this month.  It's a great time to start mass producing those holiday cards before life gets super hectic. I was playing with some of the new products in this month's release and came up with two Monochromatic Christmas Cards that are great for mass producing.  They are also flat, so no extra postage required...that's a big deal when you are sending out a lot of cards right?   How to create the Monochromatic Christmas Cards: Under NEW in the stencil department you will find Winter Forest Scenery Stencil and Arctic Winter 6 x 6 stencil. Combine the two with a nice juicy "Kraft" ink Pad to create these simple holiday cards. To add some bling, gold emboss the deer from the Joyeau Noel stamp set and mat the art piece with gold mirror cardstock. Finally, embellish with the Sands of Time Gem Mix.  These are super high quality gems, they are cut like diamonds.  They also have multi colors in them so they really glimmer.      Next, the exact same layout, but flipped sideways.    I couldn't resist that little bird stamp from the Joyeau Noel stamp set, he deserves his very own card.....same instructions as last card.  This time I added the gems over the leaves on the branch. Card Recipe: Base:  White 4-1/4 x 11, score and fold at 5-1/2", (bird card), 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 score and fold at 4-1/4". Art Piece:  white 2-3/4 x 4" Gold Mat:  Gold Foil paper 2-7/8 x 4-1/8 Hope you enjoyed my quick and easy Monochromatic Christmas Cards today and will give these a try. Until next time, Happy Stamping and get working on those holiday cards, LOL.   Here are the products used for today's cards.  Affiliate links used wherever possible at no additional cost to you.

Always

by Lisa Tilson on Jul 28 2021
Hello there, Lisa here today with a card featuring some stencilling and a Beautiful Girl. The girl in question today is Jordan Girl and I thought I would pair her with the Floral Stencil. Isn't she just so pretty? I am a huge fan of the Beautiful Girls range - I love to colour them. First off I stamped Jordan Girl onto some Neenah 80lb cardstock using Black Hybrid Ink. I coloured her with Copics (marker numbers are listed at the end) and then die cut her with the coordinating die. It's been a while since I had the Floral Stencil out and I thought it would make a pretty background for Jordan. So I masked off a small section at the bottom of my white panel and then taped the stencil down over the top with low tack tape. Using Life Changing Blender Brushes, I blended Kitsch Flamingo, Dried Marigold and Scattered Straw Distress Oxides through it. I removed the stencil and the masking tape and then cut a small thin strip of white cardstock which would act as a sort of line between the stencilled section and the plain white section at the bottom. I stuck that down with wet adhesive and then I adhered Jordan over the top (she slightly spans the white line). She was also added flat onto the panel. To finish I took the Always word die and cut the shadow in white and the word in black and glued them together. I added some foam tape onto the back and propped it up at a slant (to mirror Jordan's neck line). I spent an obscene amount of time deciding on the sentiment and it's placement! But I like a quirkly slant on a card so I went with it in the end. I am so slow when making cards! I added a few Black Russian Sequins to finish the card off. Copics used: Hair (E59, E57, E55), Skin (E70, E53, E51, E50, R20), Eyeshadow (BG11), Lips/Nails (R20), Top (C5, C4, C3, C2, C1, C0, Col. Blender), Flowers (RV04, RV02), Leaves (BG32, BG11), Butterfly (Y17, YR31)
