Build a Halloween Scene Using a Christmas Stamp

by Theary Chea on Sep 12 2022
Hello dear friends! I hope that you're having a wonderful week. Today, I want to share some inspiration to stretch your crafting supplies. This might sound crazy, but I used a Christmas stamp to create a Halloween card for this project. Yup, you heard that correctly. It's so fun to find a different use for your holiday-themed stamps, and it makes it that much more worth it when you're able to stretch it to work with two separate holidays. This card used the masking technique heavily. If you know anything about me, I love to mask and color. Creating a one-layered card can be challenging, but using the masking method makes it that much easier. I used the Build a Gingerbread House stamp set to create a spooky house on my card front. Instead of using traditional Christmas colors, I opted for a darker palette to portray a creepy Halloween house. I used alcohol markers to color the scene as well as ink blending. To add to the scene, I used the Slim Line Welcome to the Graveyard Blending Stencil and the A2 Claudron of Bats stencil. These stencils are excellent because there are so many different elements that you can use to build a Halloween scene. To give some of the images more dimension and texture, I applied a layer of Paper Velvet onto the stencil using my Mix Media Spatula. I heat embossed onto black cardstock using white embossing powder, a sentiment from the Here For The Boo stamp set. And I added a black frame using the 5x7 Stitched Rectangle die. To finish off the card, I wanted to add some embellishments. The Scaredy Cat Sequin mix is perfect for the scene I was building. The mix includes little black cats that I adhered to the card front and added white details on it to create more interest. I hope you found some inspiration to mix and match the stamp sets that you already have to create something unexpected. Until next time!Have a wonderfully blessed day!Theary Chea

Three Ghastly Friends

by Theary Chea on Aug 22 2022
Hello friends! It's Theary back on the blog again today. I am excited to share this fun card I created using some of the new products from the August 2022 release. If you haven't checked out the release, you can do so here. There's something about the fall seasons that makes me so warm inside. I love the fall colors and all of the fall decors, but I love the holidays that fall around the fall season. For example, Halloween! I love this holiday, and this release has many fantastic products for the occasion. I am sharing this card I created using the Three Ghastly Friends die set. This die set includes three ghost silhouettes perfect for any Halloween card. And, the price point is excellent! Plus, it was SUPER easy to make!  I used the dies and ran them through my die-cutting machine out of white card stock. I then went in with my Life Changing Blender Brushes and blended a few shades of ink onto each of the die-cuts. For the background, I used Paper Glitz in Black Rainbow and applied that to the Shadows of Leaves stencil with my Mixed Media Spatula. After the paper glaze dried, I popped the colorful ghosts onto the panel with foam squares. I then heat embossed the sentiment onto black card stock and trimmed it down before I placed it onto my card panel. The paper glitz in the background created such a nice touch to the card design. The camera did not catch all the amazing shine and sparkle from the glitz. This card was super easy to make and I hope you give it a try! And, please don't forget to come to visit me on Instagram or YouTube for full tutorial videos with products from this release. Until next time,Theary Chea

Done Adulting for The Day Shaker Card by Theary Chea

Hello PFS family!I am happy to be back on the blog, sharing another card with you all today. I have been dreaming about a tropical getaway, and that very feeling inspired this card. I inked and blended a few shades of hybrid inks onto white cardstock using my wonderful PFS Life Changing Blender Brushes. If you haven't tried using these brushes yet, you should pick up a few because they're so soft and make blending effortless. After blending the background, I taped down the Tropical Leaves Stencil and spread a thin layer of Paper Glaze Luxe in Arctic Fox and Spanish Moss using my Mixed Media Spatulas. And, guys! These colors are so beautiful in person; the camera doesn't capture the incredible shine. If you're not aware, the finish of the Paper Glaze Luxe is actually quite different from the other Paper Glaze line. The Luxe line is fortify with a mixture of mica and glitter resulting in an luscious shine and shimmer. It's absolutely beautiful in person.  Then using a basic oval die from my stash, I die-cut the center of the stencil out using my die-cutting machine to create a shaker window. Before I adhered the acetate sheet to the back of the stenciled panel, I heat-embossed one of the sentiments in black embossing powder onto the acetate sheet. After that, I adhered it to the stenciled panel and applied foam tape on the back to create a shaker well. I used Sandy Toes Sequins Mix to add to the shaker well for the shaker elements. I felt that the color palette of this particular mix was spot on with the whole tropical beach vibe theme. From there, I placed that onto a piece of cardstock that I inked blended with an area of light beige ink only to the area seen through the shaker window. I stamped out the image from the Done Adulting For The Day set in our alcohol-friendly Hybrid Black Ink and colored it in with alcohol-markers. When starting out with my coloring journey, I didn't realized how important it was to have the correct type of ink pads and paper for different types of project. Good thing is, our Hybrid Black Ink works well with a lot of different types of medium. My favorite paper to use with alcohol-markers is a smooth-thick cardstock. After coloring in the image, I then used the coordinating dies to cut it out and adhered it to the front of the card front with foam squares.  Finally, I adhered the entire piece to a side folding card base. So, that's it! I love the dimension of the Paper Glaze Luxe. It's such a great texture on a card front to create just enough drama. I hope you enjoy this tutorial, and I look forward to chatting with you all soon. Have a wonderfully blessed day!Theary CheaPicket Fence Studios Products Used:Done Adulting For The Day Sandy Toes Sequin Mix Tropical Leaves Stencil Paper Glaze Luxe Spanish Moss Paper Glaze Luxe Arctic Fox Life Changing  Blender Brushes  Hybrid Black Ink Pad

Drop By To Say Croak Scene Building

Hello friends!Today is such a special day for me! My first blog post as a design team member for Picket Fence Studios. I have to say that I am pretty excited about this adventure, and I am most thrilled about being able to share all of my projects with you all.I am sharing this one layered card I created using some new and old products from the shop for today’s project. The May 2022 release is absolutely amazing alone, but I think pairing them with older stamps and die sets can make them shine! I created this card using the masking technique, and I know that the technique can be quite daunting, but once you get the hang of masking, it becomes pretty easy to master.I masked and stamped the adorable characters from Drop By To Say Croak stamp set with PFS Black Hybrid Ink and colored it with alcohol markers. I like using this ink pad because the ink works great with just about any medium. It’s wonderful with alcohol markers. To create the water scene, I used the Slim Line Ocean Stencil with my PFS Life Changing Blender Brushes and Distressed Oxide Inks in shades of blues and green. I heat embossed the sentiment from the Play Is Good stamp set in white with my heat tool. There are so many different elements in this scene, and I think the best part is looking through your stash and adding additional components to your scene with what you have on hand. For example, I added more to my scene building by using an older set called Pond Scenery. This card was undoubtedly labor-intensive in masking and coloring, but I think that’s the best part. It makes the card that much more meaningful. Don’t you agree? Finally, I adhered it to a top folding card base to finish off the card. And that completes the card! I hope you found some inspiration and make time to craft. Until next time!Have a wonderfully blessed day,Theary Chea
