I Care About You, Friend!

Hey friends! I have a fun mixed media card to share with you today that is PERFECT for any occasion! I'll be using Wreath Building: Christmas Friends stamp, Friend stack word die, Let's Paint stencil, Liquid Splatters, and Pearl mixes! I'll be doing an ink schmooshing technique, so let's get messy!  First step was to create a colorful background to compliment the focal point, which will be the Friend stacked word die! I wanted that die to stand out, so a colorful background was the perfect complement to it!  Grabbing Liquid Splatters in Opaque Black, Kiwi Lime, Purple Tulip, and Blue Turquoise along with some teal, purple, and lime green reactive inks, I started to build color by placing first the ink onto a glass media matt, spraying it with water, and then "schmooshing" a piece of watercolor paper, sized 5.5x4.25, over the ink. I continued to build color using the various inks and drying between layers to keep each color vibrant. Once that was finished, I went back in with the liquid splatters and continued to build more color! I also splattered the color around with a paint brush to create interest and depth. Then I stenciled Let's Paint with the Liquid Pearls Opaque Black. I removed a bit of the black color with a paper towel so black wasn't so intense. I also used the stencil to remove color from the background I had created by placing the stencil over the background and going over it with a baby white. If you look in the upper left corner in the photo below, you will see how the color was removed!  Once the ink schmooshing process was done and the card panel was fully dry, I grabbed 2 rectangle dies and die cut through the middle of the colored card panel and through a piece of black cardstock. Before I adhered all the layers back together, I had to add my sentiment! I die cut the outer layer of the sentiment into the colored card panel (the center piece). Then I die cut the word "friend" onto a piece of black cardstock and adhered it over the out layer. Now I was ready to adhere everything onto a 5.5x4.25 card base! The sentiment was adhered using foam tape so that it popped off the page a bit! Finally, I added a sentiment that said "I care about you" along with 2 cocktails that are included in the Wreath Building: Christmas Friends and placed those over the sentiment die! I thought that was perfect for a friendship card! Then I added a few pearls from the Bright Blue & Soft Violet set, and this card was finished!  I'm so happy you stopped by today! A Spooky Flight!

by Colleen Balija on Aug 02 2024
Hi friends! It's Colleen here, and I'm going to share a spooktacular Halloween card with you today! For my card, I'll be using the new A Spooky Flight stamp and die set, Liquid Paper Splatters in Kiwi Lime, and Falling Brick Wall die plate.  This card was perhaps the most fun one of the month! I'm going to give this one to my 10-year-old granddaughter - she loves Halloween, and she loves purple! And it's not a scary card, it's cute! First, I stamped the butterfly / bats (they look like a bat and a butterfly got together and had a baby!) and heat embossed them with a deep purple embossing powder. Then I colored them in with my Copic markers in V04 and RV17 (I mixed the 2 together to get a unique color). Then I die cut each of them out with the coordinating dies.  Already I was LOVING the look of this card! Next, I wanted to create a dark background for the butterfly / bats (do these really exist?). To add texture to a black background panel, I die cut Falling Brick Wall die, added the purple embossing powder, and adhered it over the black cardstock. Then, I stamped the sentiment words from this set that say "Spooky", "Fun", Halloween" and "Night" in the purple embossing powder all over the background panel. I added foam tape to my butterfly / bats and placed them over the background panel, deliberately placing a few off the side of the card panel and then trimming them. I finished with Liquid Paper Splatters in Kiwi Lime all over the card panel! I am thrilled with how this turned out, spooky and playful all at the same time! And I still want to know if butterfly / bats actually do exist! The Kiwi Lime Splatters were actually added as an afterthought, and I love how it looks on this card!!! Leaves Falling for You

by Colleen Balija on Jul 25 2024
Hi friends! It's Colleen here and I get so excited when fall designs come out each year! When Picket Fence Studios released a stamp called Leaves Falling for You, I knew that I needed to get my hands on it! My card today uses Leaves Falling for You stamp and die set, Pinking Sheer Cover Plate die, Paper Glaze Luxe Golden Ring paste, A Whole Lot of Polka Dots stencil, and Liquid Paper Splatters. I have been seeing lots of cards with black backgrounds with vibrant focal points, so I decided to go with that theme for this card! I started with the background, adding Golden Ring paste through the polka dot stencil onto a piece of black cardstock. I set that aside to dry. Next, I created a colorful background panel by mixing Liquid Paper Splatter with water and then ink schmooshing it onto a piece of watercolor paper. The colors used were Kiwi Lime, Yellow Sunshine, Liquid Gold, Turquoise Blue, and Pink Blossom. I started with the lightest color and moved to the darker ones, drying each layer before adding more color. For the darkest colors (Turquoise and Pink Blossom), I just splattered that over the colored card panel so that the dark colors wouldn't take over the card panel. I wanted a light and fallish look to my leaves!  Once the color from my ink schmooshing was to my liking, I stamped the leaves over the colored panel and heat embossed them with gold powder. Then I die cut each leaf.  I die cut the Pinking Sheer die to create a frame and adhered it over the background panel with the gold polka dots. Then I added foam tape to the larger leaves and placed them onto the background panel along with the smaller leaves. I finished with a sentiment from the Leaves Falling for You stamp set, which was also heat embossed in gold.  I love how everything is dark except for that bright pop of color from the leaves! It really makes them pop off the page! The gold adds dimension and texture that brings it all together. To shop the items used on this post, click on the description to be taken to the PFS shop.
