Holly Jolly Slim Line Christmas

by Sandi MacIver on Dec 03 2021
Hey cardmaking friends and welcome back.  It's Sandi here with another card in the Christmas Card Extravaganza here at Picket Fence Studios. Today it's a Slimline Holly Jolly Christmas.  I combined all my favorites on this card so it's packed with interest, layers and bling.  I hope you like it.     Yes, all the things on one card, haha. How to create the Slimline Holly Christmas card: Start with a 3-1/4 x 8-1/4 piece of white, cut with the Slim Line Die Cutting System. Lay the Slim Line Basket Petals Stencil over it and use the Life Changing Brushes to add Distress Oxides through the stencil.  I used Salvage Patina, Evergreen Bough, Pine Needles and Black Soot. Next, Use the Misti and the Black Hybrid Ink to stamp the holly stamp into hammermill white cardstock. Color with Copic Markers: Greens:  Bg11, BG34, G19, G28 Pinks:  RV34, RV17, RV19, RV69 Use the coordinating die to cut out the holly and set aside.   For the Sentiment: Die cut the Slim Line Merry Christmas Word Die in mirror gold, and two of the Blue spruce cardstock, stack them together. Finally, Use the Sky Blue Paper Glaze Ombre, spread it across a 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 piece of white card and let it dry. Cut the Snowflake Lydia from it. Assembling the card:  Layer the card front to a 3-3/8 x 8-3/8 mat in Blue Spruce (from Spellbinders) and then to a 4 x 9-1/2 white card base. Use the Bearly White Glue with the fine tip to attach the paper glaze snowflake. Next, over that, add the holly. Finally, use the Bearly White Glue again to attach the sentiment. Embellish with Oceans of Green Gem Mix.            used for the Picket Fence Studios Slim Line Holly Christmas card: Here are the products I used today.  Compensated affiliate links used  where available at no cost to you. Hey cardmaking friends and welcome back.  It's Sandi MacIver here and today I have A Holly Jolly Christmas Card to share with you created with fun products from Picket Fence Studios. In creating this card, I've added a smooth silky textured background for interest and depth.  Paper Glaze and Paper Glitz are used in white which is striking but doesn't take away from the pretty holly art piece.  The gold mirror sentiment adds just the perfect amount of bling to the card.   How to create the A Holly Christmas Card. Start with a 3-7/8 x 5-1/8 piece of Hammermill White Cardstock.  Place the Triple Weave Stencil over it and add Snowdrop White Paper Glaze through it with a spatula, going up about 3/4 of the way. Next, cover a another piece of white cardstock 4-1/4 x 5-1/2, with a thin coat of Paper Glitz Sparkle and set that aside to dry. Using a Misti, stamp the Holly Jolly Christmas Stamp in copic friendly  Black ink and color with copic markers.  Cut it out with the coordinating die. COPICS USED: Green:  BG11, BG34, G19, G28 Pinks:  RV34, RV17, RV19 RV69 For the Sentiment: Use the Merry Christmas Word Topper Die over a piece of Mirror Gold card stock. Next, once the Paper Glaze is dry, glue the word topper across the bottom of the card front.  Flip it over and trim the ends before security it to a 4 x 5-1/4 piece of Spellbinders Blue Spruce cardstock. Finally, trim to fit and then add the piece to a top folding A2 sized white card base. Die Cutting the Snowflake On the piece of cardstock with the Paper Glitz Sparkle, add the Snowflake Alice and die cut it out.  Cut two more in white cardstock. Next, use the fine tip on the Bearly Art Glue to glue the snowflakes together with the shiny one on top and then glue it to the top of the card. Finally, add the Holly piece with foam squares and you are done.            used for the Picket Fence Studios A Holly Christmas Card: Here are the products I used today.  Compensated affiliate links used  where available at no cost to you. Ombre Paper Glaze Video and card samples

by Sandi MacIver on Oct 01 2021

Hey paper crafters, welcome back.  It's Sandi MacIver here and today I have a New Video Paper Glaze Ombre.  It's over on the Picket Fence Studios YouTube channel (link below for you). In the video I share a few different ways I like to use and blend these awesome Paper Glazes, and then I switch over and show you all the finished cards I made with the backgrounds created in the first portion. Yes, it's a long video, but its fast paced with lots of card inspiration.  I know by the end of it you will want to give Paper Glaze a go, LOL....I can't be the only one who enjoys messing with this stuff and it creates the best backgrounds. I'm also playing with a variety of different stencils and stamps all from Picket Fence Studios.   What is Picket Fence Studios Paper Glaze? It's a jar full of smooth creamy medium used to create texture and shimmer in your paper crafting. You can mix it with Paper Glitz for more glimmer and/or Paper Glaze Enhancer to thicken it a bit and lighten the color. You can blend the colors together to make new colors The latest Paper Glaze Lux Ombre - Nutcracker Ballet already has glitz added to it.  With it's heavy body of mica and glitter infusion, it is beyond spectacular.  Adding depth and hues to your backgrounds. The Paper Glaze Ombre line is specially formulated and colored for perfect blending and Ombre effect.   How is Paper Glaze Applied: Paper Glaze is applied with palette knives, usually through a stencil to create a design. It can be applied randomly across cardstock for a splash of color. Or in gradient order to create the Ombre. It's spectacular on dark cardstock such as Navy or Black. Picket Fence Studios has a great selection of palette knives. What does the finished product look like? Once dry, Paper Glaze is very pliable, you can bend and cut the piece as you wish. You can also die cut card stock that has been Paper Glazed - however, an additional shim may be required. The Mica and colored Glitter included in the glaze is permanently attached to the cardstock and will not shed like glimmer paper does. While it adds beauty to your card backgrounds, it doesn't add extra weight. The beautiful sheen provides a professional finish for your cards.   How Long does Paper Glaze need to dry? In my experience about 20 - 25 minutes, but this will depend on a few things. How thick you apply the glaze: - You only need a very thin coat to create beautiful backgrounds. Note: in my video, at the end of each application, I turn my palette knife on edge, and scrape back to collect any excess sitting up on the stencil. The humidity where you live: I live in a very dry climate so mine dries quickly.  If you live in a higher humidity climate, you may find it takes a bit longer. Here are some of the finished cards created with the backgrounds I made in the video.  I also share these in the video and the supplies I used to create them.   Paper Glaze Ombre - Sunset Purples Paper Glaze Sunset Purples was added over the Framed Leaves Stencil in abstract, onto a piece of light purple card stock.  This combination creates this fun and interesting background for BFF Livi Girl. Next, Livi was colored with Copic Markers and then die cut out with the coordinating die. Two center panels were cut to add and highlight the sentiment. Livi was added with foam squares to add further dimension to the card. Finally, the card was embellished with purple gems from the Purple Side of a Rainbow Gem Mix.  There are also very nice purple sequins in the Frankie Comes to Town Sequin Mix.   Paper Glaze Ombre - Sky Blue Paper Glaze Ombre Sky Blue was added again through the Framed Leaves Stencil onto pale blue cardstock to create this background. This time a true Ombre effect was created by starting at the bottom with the darkest color and adding the lighter colors in order. The Lots of Christmas Cheer image was copic colored in similar hues.  Die cut with the coordinating dies and added to the card. The center panel was added with the sentiment, and to cover any glaze that got into the center of the stencil. Finally, the card was embellished with the pretty white 3/d snowflakes from the Icicles Sequin Mix. Paper Glaze Ombre - Sky blue with the Touch Ginger Tropical Flower: The same random application of card #1 was used for this background onto pale blue cardstock. Next the Touch Ginger Tropical flower was colored with copic markers, cut out with the coordinating die and added to the card. The sentiment was die cut 3 times and stacked before being attached to the card. Finally, the card was embellished with green gems from the Ocean of Green Gem Mix. Paper Glaze Ombre - Pumpkin Spice - Masculine Birthday Card The Pumpkin Spice glazes were added over the fabulous Slim Line Reverse Leaf Stencil onto white card to create this spectacular card front (not just for backgrounds my friends). Over that, the Happy Birthday Word Topper Die was cut in black and added to the card. Next, a strip of black was cut and added the entire length of the card, covering the bottom of the die cut. Finally, the card was embellished with the Autumn Leaves Gem Mix. Here is a second card done as above but in portrait orientation. The Pumpkin Spice Paper Glaze was added through the same Slimline Reverse Leaf Stencil onto Kraft colored card stock to add a more muted background for the art. Matting the art piece in a coordinating color really makes the red pop. The same Word Topper Die was used, this time trimmed down to fit the Slimline Card width. Paper Glaze Ombre - Fall Fashion - On Black Cardstock Try adding the Paper Glaze onto black cardstock for a very dramatic card. The Paper Glazes are Opaque so show up beautiful on light or dark card. The sentiment overlay for this one is the Happy Fall Y'all word topper die and then over stamped with the Word Topper Sub Titles Stamp Set. Finally, the card is embellished with the  Moon shad Gem Mix to add just a little more bling to an already fabulous card. Thanks so much for stopping by.  I had a blast creating these projects for you with the Ombre Paper Glazes.  I hope you will jump in and give them a try. Here is today's video for you    Products used in today's video: PICKET FENCE STUDIOS BUY ALL EIGHT: Paper Glaze Ombre Sets https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Word topper subtitles Stamp Set https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Slimline Reverse Leaf Stencil https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Happy Fall Y'all Word Topper https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Moon Shade Gem Mix https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Daisy Burst Stencil https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Slim Line Rainbow Stencil https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Slim Line Details of a Wing https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Happy Birthday Word Topper Die https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Autumn Leaves Gem Mix https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Vegas Baby Sequin Mix https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Torch Ginger Tropical Flower Stamp https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Torch Ginger Tropical Flower Die https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Ocean of Green Gem Mix https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS BFF Livi Girl Stamp https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS BFF Livi Girl Die https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Framed Leaves Stencil https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Purple Side of a Rainbow Gem Mix https://pfstamps.com/collections/all/... • PICKET FENCE STUDIOS Mixed Media Spatulas https://pfstamps.com/products/mixed-m...

Happy Fall Y'all

by Sandi MacIver on Aug 20 2021
Happy Fall Y'all, it's Sandi MacIver here and today I'm sharing two cards created with more new products from Picket Fence Studios August Release.  Fall is sneaking up on us quickly, too quickly it seems, which prompted me to create these two cards. So let's talk backgrounds.  In creating today's cards, I decided to focus on some fun backgrounds and two different ways to create them. Sometimes when you want to create a quick and easy card, it can look a little naked with just a couple of die cuts attached to the front right? By simply adding a tone on tone stamped background, you create depth and interest solving that problem.   Happy Fall Y'all - Slimline Card To add some "background noise" as I like to call it, I used the A Medley of Fall Collage repeating stamp. Stamp tone on tone to create this background using either a VersaMark stamp that will create a watermark look.  Or you can use a similar color ink as your background cardstock.  i.e.  in my image above, Kraft Ink on Kraft cardstock. Next, use the Misti Stamping Tool to align the repeating stamp to stamp the entire front of your slimline piece. This is a quick and easy way to add a beautiful coordinating background to your card. Cut the Prayers Word Topper Die in Mirror Gold paper and attach to card front. Finally, die cut leaves from watercolor paper, add a quick watercolor wash in fall colors and attach. To embellish, I added some Pumpkin Cookies Sequin Mix for a little bling and to frame my art pieces.  The gold sequins match my sentiment, and I love the little pumpkin images in these sequins, so fun. Cardmaking Background Idea #2 The second background idea is also easy, just not quite so quick. Take the beautiful leaf dies from Picket Fence Studios: Maple Leaves Dies Ash Leaves Dies Oak Leaves Dies Die cut them out of the same card stock as the base card. Next, glue them all over the front of the card base.   Die cut the Happy Fall Y'all Word Topper Die from Mirror Gold (love this die so much and it cut's beautifully). Again, die cut more leaves from watercolor paper, and add a quick watercolor wash in fall colors. Attach both to the card front. Finally, I'm over the moon for the Autumn Leaves Gem Mix.  These gems have many faucets cut in them and are super sparkly in beautiful colors. So, I glued them all over the front of this card in between all my background leaves.  Talk about bling, so fun.   There you go, two quick and easy ways to add depth and interest to your die cut cards.  I hope you will give both ideas a try.          used for the Picket Fence Studios Happy Fall Y'all Cards: Here are the products I used today.  Compensated affiliate links used  where available at no cost to you. Party at the Pond

by Sandi MacIver on Jul 09 2021
Hey cardmaking friends, Sandi MacIver here and today I have P Party at the Pond to share with you created with the Drop by to say Croak stamp set. This is one of my Favorites from the June release and they are so fun to color. Creating the Slimline Card for A day at the Pond: Cut the card base from Hammermill white, 7 x -1/2, score and fold at 3-1/2. Die cut the card front using the Slim Line Nested Rectangles Dies. I love the fine stitched detail the die provides around the edge of the piece. (you need two of these). Next, use the circle die from the Scallop Frames Die set and cut three circles across the card front. Lay the circles piece over the second card front and lightly mark the outside of the circles with a pencil. Use the Life Changing Blending Brushes to add Mermaid Lagoon and Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide Inks where the circles will overlay.  This creates the sky and the pond for the card. Trim that back piece slightly before gluing them together. Creating the Pond Scene Die cut the Slim line short tall grass die in green for across the bottom front. Die cut the Cattails Die and watercolor. Cut the cat tails into 3 pieces and attach them to the card front, sliding the bottom section in behind the circles in front.  Allow the tops to stick outside the circles. Glue the grass down along the front bottom. Use the Misti stamping tool to stamp the frogs onto white card, color with copics and die cut them out. Use foam squares to attach them to the card front, one in each circle. White heat emboss the sentiment onto a scrap of black card and attach across the middle. Embellish with purple and green sequins P.S.  This cute card is sitting on a Green Slimline Envelope also from Picket Fence Studios Copics Used : Greens:  YG01, YG03, YG07, YG23, YG67 Purples:  V4, V5, V12 Blue:  BG13 Below you will find a list of products I used in today's card.  Affiliate links used where possible.   Thanks so much for stopping in, and hope you find time to create today

A whale of a Slimline Card

by Sandi MacIver on Jun 18 2021
Hey crafty friends, Sandi MacIver here and welcome back.  Today I'm sharing a New video on how to create the A Whale of a Slimline Card.  I'm using products from the June Release and I have them listed at the end of this post for you. The background for this card is created using the Life Changing Blending Brushes and blending Distress Oxide Inks in Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean. Next, I laid the Slim Line Rising Sun Stencil over it and blended Squeezed Lemonade to create the rays of sun. For the ocean floor, I used copic markers to color the You Were Mermaid for Me ocean floor image.  Cut them out and glued them in place. and the lovely Whale is from the "A Fishy Lot" stamp and Die bundle and he is die cut out and color blended around his edges. Here is the video walking you through the creation of today's card   Card Cuts: Card base:  White - 7 x 8-1/2, score on the 7" side at 3-1/2 Card front:  4-1/4 x 11, I used the second smallest die from the Slim Line Nested Rectangles dies to die cut the card front. Color Blocked Wild Daisies

by Sandi MacIver on May 07 2021
Hey cardmaking friends, welcome back.  Sandi here and today I have Color Blocked Wild Daisies to share with you.  I have been circling back around to some cardmaking techniques I have enjoyed in the past and color blocking came to mind.  I decided to do a little masking to create the Stripes and use my Distress Oxide Inks for the blending.  The beautiful Wild Daisies outline stamp from Picket Fence Studios was perfect for this application with it's big bold image. How to create the Color Blocking Technique Start by masking off the left side of the card front with Post It Tape. I prefer this tape as it doesn't leave any residue. TIP - I work on grid paper which allows me to keep my lines straight. Next use a blending brush to blend Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide Ink along the exposed edge of the card. Remove the tape and heat dry the ink. Finally, repeat across the the left side of the card front making the stripes different widths for added interest.  Remember for the next three colors you will need to mask off both sides to protect the color you have already laid down. Colors of Distress Oxide Inks Used in order:  Worn Lipstick, Mowed Lawn, Peacock Feathers and Mustard Seed. TIP - if you are using the same pieces of Post It Tape, rub off the excess ink with a paper towel before moving on to  the next color Completing the Card: Trim the card front to 4-1/8" x 5-3/8" and place it into your Misti Stamping Tool. Use the Black Hybrid Ink to stamp the Wild Daisies Stamp Image over the front of the card. Once the ink is dry,  attach it to a top folding A2 white card base. Stamp a sentiment in black ink on a white piece of scrap paper and trim before attaching with foam squares to the bottom left corner of the card. Embellishing: I decided not to embellish this card.  With the bold stripes and the detailed stamped image there was plenty going on. The Color Blocking Technique is a fast and fun way to add a bunch of color to your cards without having to do detailed coloring.  It's also quick and easy so if you are strapped for time, this technique will work for you. Picket Fence Studios also has a variety of large image floral stamps perfect for this technique. Want another card idea using this stamp set?  I shared THIS ONE a couple of weeks ago. I hope you enjoyed today's quick and easy card.  Find more card ideas using products from the April Release on my blog. Happy Stamping

Slimline Tree Scenery

by Sandi MacIver on Apr 28 2021
Hey crafty friends, Sandi here with a new Slimline Tree Scenery card for you.  I love Picket Fence Studios Slimline Die collection and when the new inserts came out this month I just had to give them a go along with a few other new goodies of course. The Tree Scenery Slim Line Die Cutting System insert was my first choice with it's beautiful branches and tiny little bunny dies that I just had to include. Card Details: Start by die cutting the smaller rectangle as your card front. Use the Details of a Wing Slim Line Stencil and blend Distress Oxide Inks in Speckled Egg, Evergreen Bough and Black Soot to get a light background effect. Next, splatter it with white and gold ink. Cut the tree out of the slimline piece and cut it again from watercolor paper. Using Gansai Tambi watercolors, color the tree adding teals, purples greens and pinks. Once dry, cut the circle away from the water colored tree and glue the tree over the one on the card. Matt the art piece i  coordinating purple before attaching to the white card base. Embellishing the Card: Use the circle die from the Slim line Scallop Framed Dies  - to cut the gold circle outline which is inlaid around the tree. (these new inlaid dies are fabulous for card highlights and there are hearts in this set as well). Glue on gems from the new Reflections Gem Mix.  This is where I got the colors for the tree, therefore, they coordinating beautifully. The Sentiment: Gold heat emboss the sentiment from the NEW Fancy Daily Sentiments onto a piece of black cardstock and die cut it out with the coordinating die set. Use small pieces of foam tape to attach it to the left side of the card. I love the dramatic feel of this card, hope you do too.   used for the Picket Fence Studios Slimline Tree Scenery card: Want to find the products I used?  I have them listed below.  Compensated affiliate links used at no cost to you. A bride's Bouquet Slimline Shaker Card

by Sandi MacIver on Mar 26 2021
Hi friends, it's Sandi here from sandimaciver.com and today I have A Bride's Bouquet Slimline Shaker Card to share with you.I'm in love with slimline cards and a shaker card is an added bonus don't you think. Start with the background using the Slim Line Nested Rectangles Dies to die cut a slimline background. Next, cover the background with the Slimline Broken Fence stencil and secured it.  Add Paper Glaze randomly over the background in Peony Pink and Pink Carnation (they are truly stunning together), and blend them by pulling the pallet knife down the entire length of the background a couple of times. Then, set this piece aside to dry. By using the small and large of the Slim Line Nested Rectangles together, you create a white frame for your card with a pretty stitched edge.  I tape them together and die cut them both at once. Next, add a thin line of white glue around the back and attach a piece of acetate cut the same size. By adding a thin line of foam tape all around the back of this, you create the void in the center for the "shaker guts".....Picket Fence has a beautiful selection of sequins that are perfect guts, and I chose the Gin and Tonic Mix for today's card. Pile a heaping teaspoon into the center of the dry background and then attach the frame piece you just created, pressing firmly around the edges to ensure it's sealed. Next, attach it to a white card base.  This one is 7-1/2 x 9, scored and folded at 3-3/4. I used my Misti to stamp the floral image twice in Black Hybrid Ink before coloring it with my copics.  Then I cut them out and added them to both ends of my card. Finally, I die cut the sentiment in Gina K Dusty Rose and White cardstock and attached it to the center of my card. There you go....a pretty floral for spring, just change out the sentiment for whatever event you are celebrating. (and I'm sorry, it seems I used a retired sentiment die as I can't find it in the store so I've linked a couple the same size that would work). Hope you enjoyed my share today and below are the products I used.  Compensated affiliate links used, at no additional cost to you.
