A Lifelong Friendship

by Colleen Balija on Oct 26 2024
Hi friends! I love to send cards to my friends, and today's card is perfect for that someone special in my life! I'll be using Let's Paint stencil, Beauty Found in a Vase stamp, and the DecoGel pens in gold and white. I'll also be doing a masking technique, which is so much fun!  I stamped the florals in a vase image from Beauty Found in a Vase onto a piece of white cardstock using Black Hybrid ink. Then I colored the flowers in autumn shades using my alcohol markers. I also stamped the sentiment that coordinates with this stamp set!  When the coloring was finished, I stamped the same floral image onto a piece of masking paper, die cut it, and placed the masking over the colored image. This will protect my image for some inking that I want to do around it!  Once the masking was in place, I created another mask by die cutting an oval shape onto a piece of masking paper trimmed to 5.25x4.0. I placed the outer masking piece over the masked floral, and then adhered the Let's Paint stencil over it and stenciled into the center of the oval with an autumn yellow ink. When I removed all the masking, I was left with this lovely frame that looks like it's sitting behind the flowers! I love a good masking technique, and it keeps the card slim for easy mailing!  Last step was to add white DecoGel pen over one of the flowers and gold over the centers of a few flowers, just for added interest!  I trimmed the finished panel down, adhered it over a piece of black cardstock slightly larger, and then adhered both layers over a 5.5x4.25 white card base.  I'm excited to send this card to a dear friend of mine welcoming in the fall season! An Autumn Pair of Boots

by Colleen Balija on Aug 10 2024
Hi friends! It's Colleen (@irishrosecreations) sharing a beautiful card using the new An Autumn Pair of Boots stamp! I love how they took a rugged pair of boots and added flowers. There is something about that combination that stole my heart!  First, I stamped the large image (it takes up most of an A2 sized card panel) using Black Hybrid ink. I also stamped one of the sentiments from the set in the same black ink. Then, I grabbed my Copic markers and colored away!  For the boots, I wanted to keep the colors neutral, so I went with shades of gray, using C3, C5, C7, and C9. The shoelaces were done using G17 and YG67. I mean, who doesn't love a funky pair of shoelaces!  Next, I colored the flowers in shades that felt like autumn to me! I kept the coloring simple since the images were small, using BG49, BG13, YG17, YG09, YG03, V9, V17, V04, RV14, RV17, RV29, Y19, YR09, YR04.  Once the coloring was finished, I added color around the floral boot with a light shade of brown and blue to represent the earth beneath the boot and the sky behind it. I trimmed the panel, along with a black one slightly larger, adhered them together, and adhered both layers to a 5.5x4.25 white card base.  I truly enjoy coloring whenever I can, and Picket Fence Studios offers some of the most unique design images on the market! Leaves Falling for You

by Colleen Balija on Jul 25 2024
Hi friends! It's Colleen here and I get so excited when fall designs come out each year! When Picket Fence Studios released a stamp called Leaves Falling for You, I knew that I needed to get my hands on it! My card today uses Leaves Falling for You stamp and die set, Pinking Sheer Cover Plate die, Paper Glaze Luxe Golden Ring paste, A Whole Lot of Polka Dots stencil, and Liquid Paper Splatters. I have been seeing lots of cards with black backgrounds with vibrant focal points, so I decided to go with that theme for this card! I started with the background, adding Golden Ring paste through the polka dot stencil onto a piece of black cardstock. I set that aside to dry. Next, I created a colorful background panel by mixing Liquid Paper Splatter with water and then ink schmooshing it onto a piece of watercolor paper. The colors used were Kiwi Lime, Yellow Sunshine, Liquid Gold, Turquoise Blue, and Pink Blossom. I started with the lightest color and moved to the darker ones, drying each layer before adding more color. For the darkest colors (Turquoise and Pink Blossom), I just splattered that over the colored card panel so that the dark colors wouldn't take over the card panel. I wanted a light and fallish look to my leaves!  Once the color from my ink schmooshing was to my liking, I stamped the leaves over the colored panel and heat embossed them with gold powder. Then I die cut each leaf.  I die cut the Pinking Sheer die to create a frame and adhered it over the background panel with the gold polka dots. Then I added foam tape to the larger leaves and placed them onto the background panel along with the smaller leaves. I finished with a sentiment from the Leaves Falling for You stamp set, which was also heat embossed in gold.  I love how everything is dark except for that bright pop of color from the leaves! It really makes them pop off the page! The gold adds dimension and texture that brings it all together. To shop the items used on this post, click on the description to be taken to the PFS shop. Today, we are thrilled to introduce our Guest Designer, the talented and charming Carol Hintermeier! 🎉 We were honored to meet Carol at the CREATE! event this year, and she was a true joy! Let's get to know her and the incredible cards she has crafted for us, all of which beautifully capture the essence of autumn. Meet Carol Hintermeier: 👩‍🎨 "Hello! I’m Carol and I’m a born and raised Texan! I have lived here all my life and enjoy it with my husband of 36 years, our two beautiful adult daughters, and our sweet Maltese named Baxter. Outside of my craft room, I enjoy a bit of gardening, bike riding, and more recently, pickleball (I’m addicted LOL)! I have loved creating for as long as I can remember. I have enjoyed embroidery, crochet, macrame, cross-stitch, scrapbooking, and, of course, card making! I started out card making with a brass stencil, lightbox, and stylus! So, thank goodness that’s in the past, and I have enjoyed stamping, coloring, die-cutting, embossing, and all things related to card making for about 15 years now." 🍂🌼 LEMON QUEEN SUNFLOWER 🌻🍋 Embrace the brilliance of nature with "The Lemon Queen Sunflower"! The sunflower takes center stage, flaunting its sunny yellow petals and warm hues against the deep blue backdrop. Its radiant beauty stands out even more, like a beacon of light in the darkness of the night. HEY, HAY, HEY, FRIEND! 🎃🌽 Get ready to fall in love with "Hey, Hay Hey!"—the adorable scarecrow card that will warm your heart and bring a smile to your face!  This delightful card features a charming scarecrow, set against a corn backdrop that is totally a-maize-ing! AUTUMN HAS ARRIVED 🍁🌙 The third card by Carol is a breathtaking masterpiece that captures the essence of an autumn harvest bathed in the soft glow of moonlight. The combination of deep, rich colors with subtle moonlit highlights creates a mesmerizing scene. This card embodies the enchanting and magical qualities of fall evenings.  Carol's creativity and passion for crafting shine brightly in each of these cards.
