A Lifelong Friendship

by Colleen Balija on Oct 26 2024
Hi friends! I love to send cards to my friends, and today's card is perfect for that someone special in my life! I'll be using Let's Paint stencil, Beauty Found in a Vase stamp, and the DecoGel pens in gold and white. I'll also be doing a masking technique, which is so much fun!  I stamped the florals in a vase image from Beauty Found in a Vase onto a piece of white cardstock using Black Hybrid ink. Then I colored the flowers in autumn shades using my alcohol markers. I also stamped the sentiment that coordinates with this stamp set!  When the coloring was finished, I stamped the same floral image onto a piece of masking paper, die cut it, and placed the masking over the colored image. This will protect my image for some inking that I want to do around it!  Once the masking was in place, I created another mask by die cutting an oval shape onto a piece of masking paper trimmed to 5.25x4.0. I placed the outer masking piece over the masked floral, and then adhered the Let's Paint stencil over it and stenciled into the center of the oval with an autumn yellow ink. When I removed all the masking, I was left with this lovely frame that looks like it's sitting behind the flowers! I love a good masking technique, and it keeps the card slim for easy mailing!  Last step was to add white DecoGel pen over one of the flowers and gold over the centers of a few flowers, just for added interest!  I trimmed the finished panel down, adhered it over a piece of black cardstock slightly larger, and then adhered both layers over a 5.5x4.25 white card base.  I'm excited to send this card to a dear friend of mine welcoming in the fall season! Easy Masking Technique!

by Colleen Balija on Jun 26 2024
HI friends! I'm back today with another masking technique that's basic yet very effective for your stamps! I'll be using From Our Entire Herd stamp, Paper Pouncers, and Grass Tufts die!  I tend to use this masking technique quite a bit when I'm not felling inspired or am not sure how to use my stamps, and it works like a charm! I started with a piece of 5.5x4.25 white cardstock. Then I created a rectangle mask by placing painters' tape onto the card panel to frame the rectangle. The painter's tape will protect the areas where you don't want ink. You could also use a piece of 5.5x4.25 masking paper and die cut through the middle of it with a rectangle die!   When my panel was masked, I inked blended through the middle with yellow ink. Then I used my Mini Paper Pouncer to create bokeh dots by inking the pouncer with shades of orange ink and stamping the pouncer over the yellow ink! You can see in the photo below the details in that background! Another way to use your pouncers!  Then I removed the masking and stamped the giraffes from the From Our Entire Herd stamp in black ink, stamping it several times to get a crisp black image. I stamped the sentiment beneath it. Then I added some of the tufted grass in front of the giraffes, trimmed the card panel with my deckled paper trimmer along with a piece of black cardstock slightly larger, and adhered the 2 layers over a 5.5x4.25 white card base!  I love this technique for silhouette stamps such as the giraffe one! Another option would be to create an ombre effect with your inks! Thanks for stopping by today!

Time to Grow

Hello!  It's Sara, from Much Love Sara here, to share a fun card with you today.  My Life Changing Blending Brushes are one of my favorite tools to play with in my craft room.  So, of course, when I saw the Watercolor Trees and Bushes stamp set, I knew I had to create a beautiful sunset blended background to highlight these pretty images.

A (Colourful) City In The World with Erica

by Erica Andersson-Burke on Jan 02 2020
Hi guys!  Erica back on the Picket Fence Studios blog after some technology-mishaps/vicious vendetta issues. I swear it's not me, it's IT.  Today's card is using the A City In The World stamp and is inspired by the many cute villages around where I live. My husband and I moved to Valencia, Spain less than three months ago and I'm completely obsessed with the architecture, the gates and wrought iron that's so prominent here. I love it!  I stamped it up with Black Hybrid ink on water colour paper. The colouring is done with Atelier re-inkers from Inkon3 and although it doesn't show up that well in the photos, the houses are all shimmery. My jug of water had some gold shimmer at the bottom and I didn't think it mattered but oh boy, when it was dry, it was so noticeable! I'm chalking this one up to a happy accident as I actually love how it turned out. While the colouring was drying, I stamped up the City image again on masking paper and fussy cut that out. This I placed over the coloured image to protect it while I ink blended the background.  I've used some yellows, orange and dark currant coloured inks to create a really dramatic sky. The ink blending itself is of course done with the Life Changing Blender Brushes.  Because I'm a weirdo, I haven't added a sentiment to this card. I have this thing where I don't like covering up my colouring... I can't explain why, I simply don't like it, so I left this as it is. Leaving it free to be a whatever card! Or maybe Happy New Home? That could be something.  That's it from me for today, thanks for stopping by and Happy New Year!!  Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica
