Christmas Shaker Card: Copic-Colored Diecuts

by Andrea Shell on Aug 26 2024
Hi there! It's Andrea back to share a fun shaker card featuring new dies from Picket Fence Studios. Have you seen the Nibbles line of dies from Picket Fence Studios? They are so adorable! I'm featuring two of the newest Nibbles dies on this card: The Brave Bear and Santa. I love them! I diecut the various elements from white and colored cardstocks. Before assembling the characters, I added Copics to the pieces to create a bit of dimension. To keep the diecuts in place while I colored them, I used the 4"x4" Paper Inking Palette. For the shaker I diecut gray cardstock with the A2 Saying Hello Cover Plate Die. I backed the panel with clear acetate and strips cut from Extra Wide Foam (The extra thickness is perfect for shakers!). I created the polka dot background by stenciling white cardstock with the A Whole Lot of Polka Dots 6"x8" Stencil. I used a Pint-Sized Paper Pouncer to apply red ink through the stencil. The shaker pieces are from the Hi Santa! It's Me! mix. After placing the sequins onto my polka dot panel, I sealed them with the diecut panel. I attached my bear and Santa with foam squares and finished with a sentiment from the Peaceful Christmas Flowers stamp set, which I diecut with the coordinating dies. by Jen Kray on Aug 24 2024
It might feel a bit early to think about Christmas, but for me, getting started on holiday cards now is key to enjoying the season stress-free. This year, I’ve found my stride in card-making again, and I’m excited to share my approach to keeping things simple yet stylish by focusing on just one stamp set: Peaceful Christmas Flowers, beautifully illustrated by Kelly Taylor. Until the 13th of September, take 10% off the stamp and die bundle HERE With this stunning set featuring elegant poinsettias, I’m embracing a fresh colour palette of red, teal, and white. It feels festive yet modern, perfect for holiday cards and even December birthdays. What I love most is how this single set offers endless possibilities without the need for a pile of supplies. You can get creative, stay focused, and still make beautiful cards for every occasion. So, join me as I walk you through six unique designs that are both effortless and striking—all made with this versatile stamp set. Let’s keep things simple and enjoy the magic of creating, one card at a time. Shop the new release here www.pfstamps.com The Projects I wanted to highlight just how versatile the Peaceful Christmas Flowers truly is. To create a cohesive look, I turned to my favourite colour palette: teal, red, and white. This trio feels fresh yet festive, offering a modern twist on traditional holiday cards. I love how the bold teal pops against the classic Christmas reds, making each card unique while still staying true to the season. Whether you're crafting for Christmas or a special December birthday, this colour scheme is perfect for any occasion. Please note I used affiliate links for this post, and I am grateful to any of you who may use them.  My Go-To Supplies for This Blog Post  Peaceful Christmas Flowers Stamps Peaceful Christmas Flowers Dies 10% off Peaceful Christmas Flowers Stamp/Die Bundle  Basic Die Cutting Set 1 (Arches/Window) Sweet Holiday Stamps Sweet Holiday Dies My Valentine Sequin Mix Plus Basic Die Cutting Set 1 Extra Wide Foam Tape Black/White Rectangles Mini Slimline Stitched & Scallop Dies Happy Gingham A2 Card Fronts Karin DecoGel Pen 1.0 White Milky Way Altenew Stampwheel Altenew Scoreboard Copic Colours Red Poinsettias: R43, R35, R46, R39 Teal Poinsettias: BG11, BG13, BG49, BG75 (swap BG09 for BG75 for a more subtle effect) Leaves: YG01, YG05, YG09, G19 and YG21, YG25, YG25 Berries: YR02, YR07 Floral Centres: Y02, YG25 I began this project with a couple of relaxing colouring sessions last weekend. It was so refreshing to approach it without any specific ideas in mind, simply enjoying the calming process of colouring with my Copic markers. Sometimes, letting the creativity flow naturally is the best part of crafting! Add splatter or a white gel pen for interest. You can also use your markers multiple times to create more shading and highlights.  Inks Black Ink: PFS Black Hybrid Ink Teal Sentiments: Distress Oxides in Peacock Feathers & Salty Ocean—layered together to create a stunning blended colour Red Sentiments: Distress Oxide in Candied Apple Before we get into the details, I want to share a little tip I picked up from my friend Kelly. Instead of reaching for coloured cardstock, try using your Copic markers to colour your matting layers and any detailed die cuts, like this lovely window die. This method helps tie everything together beautifully and ensures your colours match perfectly. Festive Shaker Card: A Holiday Delight with Every Shake! This shaker card is a true standout for the holiday season! Featuring the gorgeous Peaceful Christmas Flowers stamp set, it combines elegance with a playful, interactive twist. Each little shake reveals more of the delicate details, as sequins dance around the design, adding a sense of surprise and joy. Sending peace has never been so dynamic—this card is sure to impress and bring a smile to anyone who receives it! Instructions for Creating the Festive Shaker Card: Prepare Your Card Base: Start by adhering a polka dot foiled piece of card to an A2 card base. (I like to foil multiple pieces ahead of time and keep them ready for projects like this!) Die Cut Your Elements: Die cut the A2 Pinking Shear panel along with two window dies, all from white cardstock. Then, use your Black and Red Copic markers to colour the window frames for a cohesive, bold look. Create the Shaker Panel: Next, cut the window into the pinking shear panel. This trick gives you a thicker border, making it easier to create a clean shaker card with sturdy foam tape placement. Add Vellum: Adhere a piece of vellum behind your window die cuts. This softens the look and helps keep the shaker bits in place. Build the Shaker: Add your chosen shaker bits to the vellum-backed window and secure everything with foam tape around the edges. This will ensure your sequins have room to move, but stay contained. Finish with Details: Finally, adhere your coloured poinsettias and sentiments to the front of the card. Add a few sequins for an extra pop, and your festive shaker card is complete! Two Bold and Festive Christmas Cards To add a playful touch to these Christmas cards, I introduced a black and white gingham pattern for a bit of fun and contrast. A pop of patterned paper can really elevate a design, and these A2 Happy Gingham card fronts do just that! One of my favourite tricks is mixing in older sentiment stamps—like the Sweet Holiday stamp and dies from last year—which gave these cards a fresh, modern feel. By simply cutting the gingham card front in half, I was able to create two unique designs with ease. It’s a clever way to stretch your supplies while keeping things festive and fresh! Small differences between these two cards—like the variation in Copic colours, sentiments, sequins, and a bit of extra foliage—make each one unique. Quick, easy, and beautifully festive, these cards come together effortlessly while still standing out with their special touches! If you had the same patterned paper and already colored and stamped the flowers and sentiments, you could sit and make a large batch of Christmas cards in a day,   Charming Mini Slimline Cards with a Festive Twist Mini Slimline cards offer a fresh alternative to traditional card sizes, and these two designs truly highlight the elegance of the poinsettia! By incorporating a bold word die like "Joy" on one of the cards, I was able to change up the look entirely. These cards are perfect for sending a message of peace and joy this season, with the striking poinsettias adding that extra festive flair. It’s a simple yet impactful way to create something special with just a few creative touches! For this card, I went with rich red florals to really make the design pop. The bold poinsettias paired with a simple "Sending Joy" sentiment create a striking balance. It’s festive, vibrant, and the perfect way to share a little joy this holiday season! Next, I went bold with a large "JOY" die-cut paired with bright teal poinsettias. The mix of red and teal gives this card a modern, festive vibe. The "Peace & Love" sentiment complements the playful design, making this card a heartfelt way to spread joy during the holiday season! Winter Birthday Cheer For this winter birthday card, I added a subtle lattice background to create interest without distracting from the striking poinsettias. The cool, crisp design perfectly suits a winter celebration, letting the vibrant florals shine while maintaining a seasonal feel. The Peaceful Christmas Flowers stamp set has proven to be incredibly versatile across all the cards I created. From festive Christmas designs to a stunning winter birthday card, this set offers endless possibilities. By simply adding in a few extra sentiments and dies from your collection, you can easily transform it for various occasions—whether it’s a thoughtful thinking of you card during the holiday season or something entirely different. One set, countless creative opportunities! Sweet & Spooky Halloween Card

by Andrea Shell on Aug 16 2024
Hello there! It's Andrea back with you to share a sweet and spooky Halloween card featuring new products from Picket Fence Studios. Isn't that girl adorable in her cat costume?! She's from the new Freckle Friends: Bella Boo stamp set. I colored her with Copics and added highlights with a white gel pen. It doesn't show in the photos, but I also brushed clear sparkle over her costume (What little girl wouldn't love a sparkly cat costume?). That awesome background is from the new Halloween Cottages Fabulously Glossy A2 Card Fronts. You really don't need to do much when you have backgrounds this fantastic! I trimmed mine down and matted it with black cardstock. That fun gingham paper is from the new Haunted Halloween Gingham Fabulously Glossy A2 Card Fronts. I trimmed it slighly, adhered it to a white card and attached my matted panel on top. I popped up my colored image with foam squares and added a couple of bats created with the Trick or Treat Halloween Word Dies. I diecut the bats from two colors of glitter paper, offset them slightly and attached them with a dot of glue under the bodies, bending up the wings for dimension. The sentiment is from the previously-released Ghosts of Halloween Past stamp set. I heat-embossed it in white and diecut it with the coordinating dies. I attached my sentiment with foam, and my card was done. Thanks for stopping by! *Affiliate links used at no cost to you.

A sweet Halloween card

by Silvana Chambon on Aug 12 2024
Hello, friends! It´s Silvana from Casa Magnolia here and welcome to the Picket Fence Studios´ blog! Today I want to share with you a Halloween card made with a sweet die from the last release. It´s called Nibbles the Candy ghost die and it´s so cute!!! The die is like a cover die where you have all the pieces in one plate die. So, you can die cut once and color every piece with ink and the Pint sized paper Pouncers for example, but I decided I was going to use Paper Glaze for extra color and shine. So I cut four pieces of lightweight cardstock and spread over every piece a light and even amount of Paper Glaze in Marigold Orange, Agapanthus Purple and Daffodil Yellow colors. The remaining piece was made with Paper Glaze Luxe: Twinkle Lights . After all the pieces were dried, I cut them and put them aside as I started working on the background. For the bakground I used the new Flowing 6x8 stencil with a grey ink and some drops of the new Paper Splatter Opaque Black. I cut the background in a piece of 3"x4 1/4" and glued it in the middle of a top folding card base. I put a thin strip of black cardstock in both ends to add contrast and a little detail. Then I started to assemble the little ghost and the rest from the different color pieces that I´ve already made.  For the sentiment I cut extra layers of a white cardstock and stack and glued them together for dimension. There are some details made with black cardstock, like the bats, the eyes and the hat base.    And that´s my little sweet ghost card! I´m very pleased with the result, specially with the colors that the Paper Glazes give to the card, bright and shiny.  I hope you liked it and try your own version.  Thank you so much for stopping by. See you in my next post. Have a wonderful day! Silvana.

An Autumn Pair of Boots

by Colleen Balija on Aug 10 2024
Hi friends! It's Colleen (@irishrosecreations) sharing a beautiful card using the new An Autumn Pair of Boots stamp! I love how they took a rugged pair of boots and added flowers. There is something about that combination that stole my heart!  First, I stamped the large image (it takes up most of an A2 sized card panel) using Black Hybrid ink. I also stamped one of the sentiments from the set in the same black ink. Then, I grabbed my Copic markers and colored away!  For the boots, I wanted to keep the colors neutral, so I went with shades of gray, using C3, C5, C7, and C9. The shoelaces were done using G17 and YG67. I mean, who doesn't love a funky pair of shoelaces!  Next, I colored the flowers in shades that felt like autumn to me! I kept the coloring simple since the images were small, using BG49, BG13, YG17, YG09, YG03, V9, V17, V04, RV14, RV17, RV29, Y19, YR09, YR04.  Once the coloring was finished, I added color around the floral boot with a light shade of brown and blue to represent the earth beneath the boot and the sky behind it. I trimmed the panel, along with a black one slightly larger, adhered them together, and adhered both layers to a 5.5x4.25 white card base.  I truly enjoy coloring whenever I can, and Picket Fence Studios offers some of the most unique design images on the market! Mixed Media Fall Hello Card

by Andrea Shell on Aug 08 2024
Hello there! It's Andrea back with you, and today I'm sharing a fall card featuring products from Picket Fence Studios' July release. Who else is ready for fall?!! Those gorgeous leaves are from the Layered Flora: Fall Foliage Dies. Aren't they awesome?! To create them, I first scribbled watercolor markers onto watercolor paper, spread the ink with water, and then dried it with my heat tool. I repeated the steps to build up the color before adding Opaque Black Paper Splatter. Once the paper was dry, I diecut it with the Fall Foliage Dies. I also diecut leaves from gold gllitter cardstock. For my background I used the Tree Bark 6"x8" Stencil. I placed the stencil over a panel of gray cardstock and pounced on gray ink with the Neutrals Paper Pouncers. I removed the stencil and blended the edges of the panel with the same ink using a Life Changing Blender Brush. To tie the background to the leaves, I added Opaque Black Paper Splatter before adhering the panel to a cardbase. I cut a diagonal strip of gray cardstock and attached it to my card with foam squares, trimming off the excess. I diecut "hello" from black cardstock using the Hello to You Word Dies and glued it to the strip. Next, I tucked the leaves under the strip, securing them with liquid adhesive. I finished the card with some gold glitter gems. Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to check out Picket Fence Studios' July release for lots of awesome products for your fall projects. *Affiliate links used at no cost to you.

A Spooky Flight!

by Colleen Balija on Aug 02 2024
Hi friends! It's Colleen here, and I'm going to share a spooktacular Halloween card with you today! For my card, I'll be using the new A Spooky Flight stamp and die set, Liquid Paper Splatters in Kiwi Lime, and Falling Brick Wall die plate.  This card was perhaps the most fun one of the month! I'm going to give this one to my 10-year-old granddaughter - she loves Halloween, and she loves purple! And it's not a scary card, it's cute! First, I stamped the butterfly / bats (they look like a bat and a butterfly got together and had a baby!) and heat embossed them with a deep purple embossing powder. Then I colored them in with my Copic markers in V04 and RV17 (I mixed the 2 together to get a unique color). Then I die cut each of them out with the coordinating dies.  Already I was LOVING the look of this card! Next, I wanted to create a dark background for the butterfly / bats (do these really exist?). To add texture to a black background panel, I die cut Falling Brick Wall die, added the purple embossing powder, and adhered it over the black cardstock. Then, I stamped the sentiment words from this set that say "Spooky", "Fun", Halloween" and "Night" in the purple embossing powder all over the background panel. I added foam tape to my butterfly / bats and placed them over the background panel, deliberately placing a few off the side of the card panel and then trimming them. I finished with Liquid Paper Splatters in Kiwi Lime all over the card panel! I am thrilled with how this turned out, spooky and playful all at the same time! And I still want to know if butterfly / bats actually do exist! The Kiwi Lime Splatters were actually added as an afterthought, and I love how it looks on this card!!! Cute Foxes: Using Diecuts to Create a Scene

by Andrea Shell on Jul 31 2024
Hi, friends! It's Andrea back with you, and today I'm sharing a card featuring the adorable, new Layered Fauna: Larger Playful Fox Dies from Picket Fence Studios. Aren't those foxes cute?! Each of the Playful Fox Dies has two layers: a solid base and a detail layer. I diecut all of the elements from white cardstock and colored the detail pieces with Copics. To prevent the pieces from moving around while I colored, I placed them onto the 4" x 4" Paper Inking Palette. Once the detail diecuts were colored, I glued them to the solid bases. To create a den for my foxes, I first diecut brown cardstock with one of the arched dies from the Basic Die Cutting Set 1 Dies, allowing the die to hang off the cardstock. Next, I embossed the panel with the A2 Against the Grain Cover Plate Die. I applied brown ink to the edges of the panel with a Life-Changing Blender Brush. For the inside of the den, I trimmed an A2 panel of dark brown cardstock and blended it with a darker ink to add some depth, leaving it lighter in the center. I attached my diecut panel on top with foam tape and affixed the piece to a cardbase. To add interest and color to the scene, I added grass tufts and fern fronds. For the grass I used the Scene Building Grass Tufts Dies, and I diecut the ferns with the Layering Flora: Leaves and Twigs Dies. I placed the diecuts onto the paper inking palette and applied green inks with the Rainbows Pint-size Paper Pouncers. Next, I glued the foxes in their den, adding a bit of shading with Copics, and attached the green pieces to complete the scene. My sentiment is from the Swanky Sentiments: Salutations stamp set. I stamped it in black and diecut it with the coordinating dies. I popped up the sentiment with thin 3D foam squares and finished with matte gold pearls.
