A Spooky Day

by Becky Roberts on Aug 28 2020
Hi Stamping Friends, it's Becky Roberts from Inking Idaho here today with a Halloween card. This is Spooky Day and it makes a fun but not so scary card. I added a spooky background with Distress Oxide Inks in Fired Brick, Abandoned Coral, Brushed Sage and Scattered Straw with the Life Changing Blender Brushes. The house and tree are colored with Copic markers and the kids, clouds and sentiment are stamped in Black Hybrid Ink Pad. A Spooky Day Thanks for being with me today.  For more creative ideas, you can follow me on my blog and Instagram. Becky

This card has all the fall vibes. I love summer, but fall is a close second and these colors have me wishing for sweater weather. I stamped the Leaf Mandla in the center panel with Black ink and colored it up with the yummy warm color combo.     I stamped the sentiment from Songbirds in the bottom right corner in brown ink. Once I layered up all the panels, I reached for a some sequins to add a fun border along the bottom. I picked out some individual sequins from the Bourbon Maple and Frozen Nutcraker Mix.  I hope you all enjoy today. Thanks for stopping by.

Hello!  It's Sara, from Much Love, Sara.  I love using multiple stamp sets together.  Having a variety of background and focal image stamp sets, gives you lots of ways to mix and match images to create unique cards. Images like the new Leaf Mandala Stamp make beautiful backgrounds, or can act as an additional layer to bring attention to your focal image - such as in the card I'm sharing today.

We are thrilled to bring you our August Guest Designer - Richard Breaks! Here he is in his own words! "Richard Breaks has been cardmaking for about 13 years now, after a fateful afternoon of crafting with a dear high school friend. The crafting bug bit, and we think it left some teeth behind in the process! While ink blending and smooshing has become a well-utilized favorite, bouncing around from clean and simple style to multi-layered looks with everything but the kitchen sink a common occurrence, with many of them happening in the same crafting session.  Richard lives in Sarasota, Florida with his husband, and is always up for some crafting time, so holler if you’re in the area! Richard can be found at his blog mrcardmaker.blogspot.com, and more frequently on Instagram @rlbreaks." His creations with our August release are nothing short of amazing. Here are two of them, but please visit his blog and Instagram for more of his Picket Fence Studios designs! His layered, pastel slimline card with our Evergreen stencil is just breathtaking!  His mostly neutral A Spooky Day background with pops of purple gives us the chills in the best way!  Look how he created a neighborhood with this A Spooky Day image! Look at the way he made ornaments with the Songbirds set! And finally - some beautiful coloring on Your Friend Dear.  Head over to his Mr. Cardmaker blog for the rest of his projects! Thanks for joining us this month Richard!

Being Your Friend is Such a Treat!

by Angela Bode on Aug 21 2020
Happy Friday everyone!  I added glam and drama to today's cards with amazing Picket Fence Studios Sequins! First, I watercolored the adorable Your Friend Dear stamp set. The sky needed a little something extra so, I added clouds over the top of the watercolor with the Layers of Clouds Stencil and Life Changing Blender Brushes (Also sold in a Bundled set).  The sentiment is from the super cute Spooky Day Set. For the final touch, I added Frozen Nutcracker Sequins!  This sequin mix is so fun with pink, turquoise, and shiny holographic sequins!  What an easy way to add sparkle and glam to any project! You can add the entire Picket Fence Studios Sequin Mix to your collection at a bundled price! In case you didn't get a chance to see this fun card up close I thought I would share it here!  It features several elements as the first card but with very different results!  I used the Layers of Clouds Stencil behind my pinkalicious Spooky Day house. The sentiment is from If You Got It Haunt It and the bats are from Witch Please.  You know I had to add sequins so chose Creme de Menthe Sequins. Thanks so much for stopping by and don't forget to add sparkle to your weekend projects with sequins!!

Social Distanced Santas

by Ceal Pritchett on Aug 19 2020
Hello Everyone! It's Ceal here to share a card with you today using the Baby it's Cold Outside set. It's 2020 and we all know we have to social distance and that is what it looks like these santas are doing right? I love to make wintry snowy skies and this stamp set is perfect to do that.  I stamped the image in our Black Hybrid ink, colored it using Copic markers and then masked it off and created the sky To create the sky I used the Life Changing Blender Brushes and Concord & 9th inks in Midnight, Oceanside and Eggplant and blended them over the masked santas keeping some snow at the bottom also. Before I removed the masks I spritzed some water for the snowflakes. To finish the card I added a greeting from the Believe in th Magic set and some small snowflakes with a white gel pen.    Below you will find links to the products used. Leaf Mandala Madness with Erica

by Erica Andersson-Burke on Aug 18 2020

Hi guys! It's Erica back on the PFS Blog today, with three cards all using the Leaf Mandala stamp from the August release.  The first two cards are done with Rose Gold embossing powder, one clean and simple and the other rich and sparkly.  On the clean and simple one I coloured in the leaves with Zig Clean Color markers, in autumnal colours to complement the colour of the embossing powder.  This one was finished off with a stamp set from Levels Of Friendships in three different Distress Oxide inks to create a gradient look. It's Squeezed Lemonade, Wild Honey and Abandoned Coral.  One last finishing touch were a few sequins from the brand new sequin mix Bourbon Maple Splash.  The second card was done with the same Distress Oxide inks, only ink blended this time. Using the Life Changing Blender Brushes I added the colours out to all the edges.  In order to bring some attention to the leaves, I brought in my Zig Clean Color markers again and used these to add more depth and colour. A final sentiment from Live Happy was stamped over the wreath. I also added some shimmer to it. I did this by splattering some Golden Rose Paper Glaze mixed with water to create a gold water colour.  The final card is coloured with Copics, and I have also added the pumpkin from A World Of Octobers on it. The background is made up with the Leaf Mandala stamped up about two thirds on the top and the bottom of a card base, then coloured in. I did mean to make them perfectly mirrored but that did not happen. Oh well.  The pumpkin was also coloured up with Copics, after being stamped up with Black Hybrid ink on a scrap piece of Neenah card stock.  I also added one of the sentiments from A World Of Octobers on it, and then trimmed it down. This strip I adhered straight to the card and as a last flourish, I added some sequins from the Bourbon Maple Splash sequin mix to balance out the wonkiness of the Leaf Mandalas.  That's it from me for today, I hope you enjoyed these cards and found some inspiration here!  Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica

Creating 4x4 Repeating Backgrounds with Judy Rozema

by Judy Rozema on Aug 17 2020
Hello Everyone! Happy Monday!Today I am sharing creations made with 4x4 repeating background stamps. These stamps are fabulous, not only for their images, but because you can make them as large or as small as you would like. They repeat on all four sides, making them easy to line up to create larger backgrounds. First up is Moths from the August release. With this card, I stamped twice (one on top of each other) using Versamark ink. The MISTI makes lining things up so easy! I embossed with Clear Embossing Powder to make those little moths shine. I found some patterned paper that coordinated with my cardstock, and added twine down the side. Can you find the hidden sequins on some of the dots? They are from the Screwdriver Sequin Mix. The sentiment is from the previously released A Dose of Vitamin Sea. Next up is the previously released Reindeer Games. These tiny little guys will steal your Christmas cardmaking heart! They are so cute. With this card, I stamped and lined up four times: once on top, and twice on the sides for a wider image panel. It has a similar layout with twine, patterned paper and a single sentiment, which is from Inside Quotes: Christmas. My background was made using a smooshed ink technique with Distress Oxide inks. Next is On A Seahorse's Dreams, where I used just the 4x4 image, without adding any additional image stamping. I embossed with Gold EP, and added some metallic thread. The sentiment is the I Miss You Word Die. While it is currently sold out (you can see why - it's awesome!), there are many others that you could use in its place. The background on this card is a watercolor wash. The base panel is printed vellum on black cardstock. Next up is Loads of Mail. With this card, I stamped and lined up twice - on top of each other, but used less of the width, to have room for the sentiment. So it's less than 4 inches wide. But what a graphic statement it made for this card! I used a sentiment from Spotlight on You down the side, and the awesome Paul James Guy (and die!) for a masculine birthday card. Finally, while it's fun to line up and repeat, it's also fun to use partial images, as I did above, but even more so with the newly released Hope Ribbons. I used a circle die to cut out different sizes and make an uplifting card, using orange, which is the ribbon support color for Leukemia. The sentiment is from A Dose of Vitamin Sea. Those little rhinestones added a touch of sparkling hope! I hope you have enjoyed this look at some of the 4x4 repeating background stamps, and will give them a try! I definitely recommend the MISTI to help you succeed in lining up the images! You can see more of my projects (including other 4x4) on my blog:Joy in a JAR.

August Release with Michelle

Hello! It's Michelle here today, and it's release day for Picket Fence Studios! I have an eclectic bunch of cards for you today, using a variety of stamps and stencils from the August release. This first card is a simple, one layer card - I used an older circle stencil to create a spotlight in the centre of the card to highlight the beautiful songbird and the sentiment. My next card is one I will share with a friend who is a breast cancer survivor. I white embossed the Hope Ribbons stamp multiple times onto some pick cardstock (lining up the image so that is a continuous image on the card) and white embossed the image. I cut the panel and added it to a white card base, then added a layered "love ya" sentiment. I finished with a scattering of sequins. This next card is a little outside my comfort zone! I started with a piece of black cardstock and added the Evergreens stencil to add paper glazes using a foam ink blending tool. (There was some glitter stuck on my pink foam in blending tool, which added a little certain something to my card!) I added green, blue and pink to mimic the Aurora Australis (or Borealis, depending on where you live!). I finished with a white embossed sentiment. There is a video of how I made this card on the Picket Fence Studios YouTube channel! All of the products in the new release are linked below - it's a great release with such a great variety of images! I know you're going to love it! Thanks for visiting :)

Lovely Summer Card with Larisa

by Larisa Hohman on Aug 12 2020
Hello!  Larisa here and today I have a lovely summer card to share with you.  As school is starting back and summer is winding down, I thought it would be fitting to create a card using this Beautiful Girl Kendyll Stamp and Lovely Word Die.   To create my card, I started with some patterned papers in my stash.  The background paper is a white ship-lap pattern.  I trimmed that to fit the front of my card base.  Then I die cut a stitched square from blue striped paper and mounted that on a piece of grey card stock.  I adhered that towards the top of my card.  Then I trimmed a piece of red polka dot paper and layered that underneath.  Using the Lovely Die, I die cut the word from navy blue card stock and layered that on top of a white background layer, cut with the same die set.  By the way, I absolutely LOVE this die.  I will probably be using it on all sort of cards in the future.  Just a head up. LOL.  For my image, I stamped the girl out in tan ink on Copic-friendly paper.  Then I used Copic Markers to color her in.  For her eyes and eyebrows, I used a Copic Multi-liner.  After, I was finished coloring, I used the coordinating die to cut her out and popped her on my card using foam tape.  I layered the Lovely Word Die on top with foam tape as well.  And there you have it.  One Lovely Summer Card.   Beautiful Girl - Kendyll Kendyll Girl Coordinating Die Lovely Word Die Copic Colors: Skin: E000, E00, E11, E04, R20 Hair: E43, E47, E49 Red: R35, R37, R56, R59 White: W0, W1, W3 White Flower: E50, E53, E33 Green: YG21, YG23, YG25 Brown Drink: E35, E57 Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Happy Monday! Do you have a few of the smaller Picket Fence Studios Blender Brushes and you wondered if you would ever use them? Well my friends, they are FABULOUS to use with detailed stencils like the Shading Flower stencil. I only used two ink colors, but managed to get some pretty shadows by using a heavier hand on parts of the image.   I added the sentiment vertically from the The Bride's Bouquet stamp set. It has such lovely sentiments and I had a hard time deciding which one to use! To finish my card I added some sequins and ink splatters. If you are looking for a beautiful image to fill your card front, you can't go wrong with this one! You can see these products and so much more by visiting Picket Fence Studios today. I have linked the products I used below if you are in a shopping mood! Susie Created4Creativity

Early Tulip Bouquet Card

by Becky Roberts on Aug 07 2020
Hello Stampers and Happy Friday! Becky Roberts here from Inking Idaho with a pretty tulip card.  We have a very, very short window of tulip growth here in Idaho, so when I see them I really enjoy them.  I stamped the Early Tulip Bouquet stamp with the Picket Fence Black ink pad.  I colored it in with a few Copic markers and then hand cut it out.  I turned the image over and on the backside, gently rubbed with a big ball stylus giving each flower a little bubble shape to it.  Then I added a foam square to the center of each of those areas and placed it on a piece of 4" x 5-1/4" cardstock.  That way it is popped up and has a little rounded shape to each flower. I used the Fancy Kaleidoscope Stencil (one of my personal favorites!) and Distress Oxide ink with the Life Changing Blender Brushes on the card panel before adhering it to a folder card.  Then I ripped it off really fast because I noticed the card was upside down...don't tell me you've never done that! *Ü* Early Tulip Bouquet Fancy Kaleidoscope Stencil Life Changing Blender Brushes   Have a lovely weekend! Autumn Two Ways

by Lisa Henke on Aug 06 2020
Hello Hello. It's Lisa Henke here and I'm happy to be sharing my autumn card duo with you today. I did a bit of water coloring with the Autum Harvest Collage stamp set. I stared with the blue base and decided to flip the color scheme and added the red and coral color to the background. Here is a closer look at the blue card. I used distress ink in Sea Salt, Candided Apple, and Abandoned Coral to color them up. I added a strip of blue holographic card stock along the top.    Here is a look at the red based card. I used the same colors of ink and added some red hollgraphic card stock to the topo of the image and tucked in some  sequins.  I really watned to used the Hello Word Die but it is still sold out, so I opted for the Ways To Say Hello stamp set and inked up the giant hello in Intense Black Ink. Love it.  thanks for stopping by today. Our new release is just around the corner. Stay tuned.

Hello friends! Today I’m up at Picket Fence Studios Blog sharing this shaker card featuring the Peony Foil Impression Die, the Brocade Stencil and Spiked Ocean Water Sequin Mix. Let’s begin! Using the Peony Foil Impression Die and gold foil on a white cardstock I foiled the peony with the help of a Gemini Foilpress machine. Then, I die cut the flower using the matching die and reserved it. Next, on a white panel I created an ombré look using different shades of blues with the help of my Life Changing Blender Brushes. Once my panel was dry, I placed the Brocade Stencil on top and applied white ink. Additionally, I heat embossed the Hello sentiment from the Fancy Sentiments Stamp Set with WOW! Metallic Gold Embossing Powder. I added a clear plastic bag to my panel that I trimmed down and secured at the back using double sided tape. Before closing the panel I put the Spiked Ocean Water Sequin Mix inside. Finally, I adhered a white folded note card at the back and placed the foiled peony on top using foam tape. Now my card was done! I hope you enjoyed this easy and fun shaker inspiration. Have a phenomenal day! Karen

July's Guest Designer - Latisha Yoast

by Lydia Fiedler on Jul 31 2020

We are thrilled to introduce our July Guest Designer - Latisha Yoast. An often-published concept artist, Latisha's designs are clean, colorful and fun. Here she is in her own words: As a native Californian, I spent my formative years in Mendocino and Sonoma counties. This is where I developed my love for fresh ingredients, wine, finding the beauty in the mundane and my granola hippy side, like wearing salt water sandals and Birkenstocks.  The first time I met my husband, we were 9 or 10 years old. We were playing against each other in Little League. I was one of 2 or 3 girls who played with the boys. If you want to find a husband, playing little league will leave a lasting impression, especially if you make a play that gets them out. Remember that in your next life lol. Since some of my best friends were boys and I had a brother, I didn't have the catty gene to compete against other girls/women. Now as an adult, there is always room in my circle or at my table, we all can fit and thrive together.  Since 1999, my husband Jess has served in the US Navy. Because of his profession, and traversing this amazing country, we have been able to live in some incredible places. Such as, Charleston, SC, Saratoga Springs, NY, San Diego, CA, Groton, CT, Pensacola, FL and now Orange Park, FL. That also means I have friends all over the US.  The one constant in my adult life has been the ability to have a hobby/job that allows me to be creative and be in this industry. I have worked for paper companies, magazines, tool manufacturers, and stamp companies. There isn't a hobby craft that doesn't intrigue me. My main squeeze will forever be stamping. There is just something magical about creating with stamps and ink. Now that both of my children are in college, my pets are more than happy to take all of my attention. Skipper our 9 year old miniature schnauzer who still has more energy that should be legal, and our two silver tabby cats Zelda and Peach who are 8 months old. Their mother is a stray cat who has squatters rights to our back porch, we call her Moochie, just had another litter of kittens. So those 4 kittens we are fostering as well. If you are not good at math, let me catch you up, we currently are feeding 8 animals. 8 ANIMALS. That is 5 too many lol.  Pandemic life is weird. There were some days where I would get out of pajamas, take a shower, to only get back into pajamas. Can anyone else relate to that? I have tried new food recipes, drink recipes and had more charcuterie boards than a cardiologist would like to see. But y'all, cured meats will get you through a pandemic. 3 meat food groups that you may consider stocking up on are salami, bacon and brisket. I just saved your life, so you're welcome.  In all seriousness, I am excited to be guest designing this month. If I had to describe my card making style in one word, it would be balanced. I love a well balanced card. Here are her beautiful projects, and you will see more in August! First up, the layering Most Wonderful Time of the Year stamp set, done in a charming rainbow! We love how she created dimension by popping up two of the trees, and the glittery detail. Next - she took the versatile, endlessly repeating Wrapped Candy stamp set and gave it a Halloween twist with her coloring - making a shaker card opening with our sequin mix - Black Magic.  Finally, the Brocade Stencil and Ho Ho Ho are the perfect pair in purple! Thanks for stopping by today! You can see more of Latisha's beautiful work on her Instagram page.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

by Angela Bode on Jul 31 2020

I unapologetically love Christmas!  Lucky for me Picket Fence Studios July Release features several new Christmas items.  For the first two cards, I used the beautiful Brocade Stencil which is not really a Christmas stencil but paired with Christmas colors and a Christmas sentiment it's Christmasy!  The sentiment is included in the wonderful Believe in the Magic set. I don't have a lot of variety in my watercolor powder colors so I decided to change the look of my powders a bit by first brushing Distress Ink through the Brocade Stencil with my Life Changing Blender Brushes.  (also sold in a discount Bundle) Next, I spritzed the paper with water and tapped on the watercolor powder.  I love how the Distress ink changes the color just enough to give me a bit of variety.  I wanted to cover up as little as possible of this interesting background so centered the sentiment from Believe in the Magic. For my last card of the day, I departed from my favorite theme and created something lovely using A Rose.  I created the background several months ago and then set it aside. This week it all came together with the help of an art prompt challenge on FB.  The sentiment is found in More Fancy Sentiments and then I sprinkled a few yummy Margarita Sequins!  And that's it.  A quick yet beautiful card to let someone know they are being thought of. Thanks so much for stopping by today!  I hope you have enjoyed the inspiration! Angie

Hello Everyone, It's Ceal, here to share a few cards made with different stenciling techniques.  For the first card I used the Roses stencil and created a background by running the stencil through the die cut machine and embossing it. Then I used some acrylic paint and spread over it using a credit card.    The second card I used the Brocade stencil. I put down some powdered watercolor, spritzed it and then laid the stencil on top and allowed it to dry naturally.  For the third card I used the Flower of Life stencil with the reverse stenciling technique. I created a rainbow background and then went over it using the stencil with black ink.  All supplies are linked below

Jack O Lantern Coloured Pencils Card with Erica

by Erica Andersson-Burke on Jul 28 2020

BOO! Or hi, rather.  It's Erica on the blog today with a spooktacular card, using the new Jack O Lantern stamp. I've tried my hand at coloured pencils on black card stock, but I was really rusty so it's not as blended or as crisp as I imagined it in my head.  I stamped the Jack O Lantern stamp up on black card stock, with the help of my MISTI. This is done with the Embossing Pad from WOW! Embossing and heat embossed with Clear Gloss embossing powder. What I should have done here is stamped it up with a pigment ink, coloured it in and then heat embossed on top. You do get much cleaner lines that way. Oh well, another memo for self for another time.  As the card stock is black, I laid down a layer of Cream first. The pencils I have used are Prismacolour.  To get some highlights on the pumpkins, I next added a yellow layer. At this stage it looks a real mess, I will confess, however as with most colouring, it's key to be patient.  Next, I have gone in with my darkest colour. This is actually a reddish colour, Light Cadmium Red. To blend this dark colour into the lighter parts, I've used a more orange pencil, Orange Glaze. I didn't go all the way down onto the yellow parts yet, though. That's for the next step.   The last colour I added was Cadmium Orange. This was my bridge between the yellow parts and the red-orange parts. I probably spent the most time with this colour too, to make the blend as smooth as possible. When you are finished with this, move on to your next pumpkin and keep doing the steps until you are happy. I didn't do every single one, just a flowy pattern of them.  To finish off the card I have heat embossed a sentiment from Favorite Notifications, in white on black card stock. This is then trimmed down with scissors around the text to make it as small as possible. I have also cut out the word BOO using Tall Type Alphabet Dies from Concord & 9th. To keep to the Halloween theme, I used some alcohol inks on Yupo paper and then cut the letters out of this.  These bits and pieces were then adhered to the card with some liquid glue, and the whole card was adhered to a card base. Hocus pocus, all done!  That's it from me for today, but thank you for stopping by! I hope you found some inspiration here with me.  Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica
