A Cat, a Dog and Thinking of You!

by Angela Bode on Jun 19 2020
Hello, everyone!  I hope you have had a great week!  I am excited to share with you a couple of stencils and a sweet pup today.   First up is the gorgeous Fireburst Stencil.  I have a limited supply of watercolor powders and in truth, I am tired of the colors I have.  So I decided to try an experiment and see if I could get a different look.  First I sponged distress ink through the stencil with a Life-Changing Blender Brush (on sale now!) also sold as a Bundled set with bonus stencil).  Then I spritzed the cardstock, (stencil still in place) with water.  Next, I sprinkled the watercolor powder through the stencil.  I took a piece of cardstock and placed it over the top of the watery ink and rubbed it.  When I removed the top piece I had a negative print that I will use at a later time.  Lastly, I removed the stencil and voila!  Magic!  I adore how the distress ink changed the watercolor powder.  I will be trying this technique again soon!  To finish off the card I heat embossed a sentiment from More Fancy Sentiments and I added a sprinkling of Blueberry Mojito Sequins. Next up is another fun project this time using the Cat Stencil.  After stenciling the cat with Life-Changing Blender Brushes, I covered her with a mask.  Next, I splattered resist spray all over the background.  Once it was dry I brushed blue distress ink over the cardstock and splattered resist spray again.  Once dry the resist spray splatters sealed in the blue ink where the droplets had fallen.   Next, I brushed on a purple distress ink layer followed by distress spray and lastly a hint of black ink.  The result is a cool background in white, blue, and purple splatters!  So much fun!  The sentiment from Grace Puppy is perfect as a thank you for my cat sitter!   And to give equal time to Team Dog I created this sweet card featuring Lucky Puppy.  The sentiment is from the Grace Puppy set.  I watercolored this darling pup with help from Lydia's Video: Using Unexpected Color. Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope you feel inspired to create this weekend!    Angie               Discounted Bundle

Meet Libby Hickson in her own words... "I've been papercrafting for over 20 years, spending the last 10 working with Hero Arts. From designing cards, to working tradeshows, to teaching classes, to managing the Hero Arts Creative Team and helping behind the scenes, I love getting others excited about stamping! When I'm not in my craft room/office, I love to travel, cook, garden, and spend a lot of my time at the soccer fields with my husband, cheering for our two kids."We know Libby as a kind, tireless friend in the Stamping Village - a creative genius, and always generous with her time and a listening ear. We are thrilled to have her as our guest this month, and you can see more of her creativity with our products in the coming days on her blog, her Instagram, and you can also find her on the Hero Arts blog, where she is the crafty girl behind the magic!    Never seen a purple cow? Paper Cranes & Lemons

by Ceal Pritchett on Jun 17 2020
Hello Everyone!  It's Ceal! Today I am sharing some cards using some 4x4 stamps from the June release. We have several of these 4x4 stamps in the shop and they are so fun to create with. The first two cards use the Paper Cranes along with some word dies, Hello and I Miss You. These stamps are seamless on all four sides so you can line them up for days. They make an easy background for a slimline card like the one above or a card front like the one below. You could even line them up to create a 12x12 background for a scrapbook if you wanted.    For my third card I used the Fruitylicious 4x4 stamp, isn't that a fun name for a stamp? You can make this stamp any fruit from lemons to oranges, limes, grapefruit and even Kiwi.  I embossed them in gold and turned them into lemons by ink blending the background with yellow ink using the Life Changing Blender Brushes.  I stamped the Baker's Twine along the left side in a darker color of yellow and wow does this stamp look real! I am in love with this stamp to add twine without the bulk so it can be mailed without extra postage!

After The Storm Two Ways with Erica

Hi guys!  It’s Erica back on the Picket Fence Blog today, with a couple of cards using the brand new After The Storm stamp set.   Both cards are coloured with Copics and stamped up with the Black Hybrid ink. Because the After The Storm stamps are brand new, I used a Mini MISTI to make sure I got good stamp outlines.  I wanted to create really dramatic and dark clouds, but not make them all grey or black. On a scrap piece of paper I scribbled all the grey copics I planned on using, then used some blues over them to see how they reacted. This scrap piece became my guide to how to colour in the clouds.  For the rainbow I used one single marker for each section. On the second card I started with a lighter Grey Copic (C5). On the first one the darkest one is C7. On this one I used a more pastel colour scheme for the rainbow. I have also used two markers for each section to get more dimension. I added two more colours, plus a darker shade, to colour in the umbrella, as well as some browns for the bench. Once the colouring was done, this card was complete as the sentiment is already stamped up on it. To add more drama to the first card, I cut out a mask and placed over the coloured image. Then I ink blended some Chipped Sapphire that was left on one of my Life Changing Blender Brushes to add a soft dark sky behind the clouds. The final touch for the background was splattering some Golden Rose Paper Glaze on the card for some shimmer. I mixed a tiny dollop of it with water and splattered it with a paint brush. I keep one specifically for this as it dries rather hard, and this paint brush is no good for anything else now.  The sentiment for this card is one from the After The Storm stamp set, and it says ‘Rainbows only form after a storm’. To create this effect, I masked off the ‘rainbow’ and stamped the rest of the sentiment with Black Hybrid ink. Then I masked off the ‘rainbow’ part in sections and stamped each section in a different colour. I have used Atelier Inks from Ink On 3 in Marilyn Red, Marigold Orange, Bee Sting Yellow, Goddess Green, Peacock Blue and My Jam Purple.  If you look closely, you will notice that I have used the colours in the same order as my rainbow is coloured. Nice little touch, eh?  Well, that’s it from me for today. Thank you for spending this time with me, I hope you found some inspiration here and if you want to add this gorgeous stamp set to your stash you can find it RIGHT HERE. Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica

Mixing Paper Glaze

by Michelle Lupton on Jun 12 2020
Hello - it's Michelle here today to share this card that I made a little while ago by mixing Agapantha purple and Cornflower Blue paper glazes to create a new colour. I love using a gradient of colour over a stencil - I usually do this with ink and Life Changing Blender Brushes, but you can do it with Paper Glazes and a palette knife, too!  They mix beautifully, and spread over the stencil just like cake frosting - so satisfying! I called my new colour Royal Blue. I used the Mermaid Scales stencil and a sentiment from Fancy Sentiments on this card. Thanks for visiting :)

Mr. and Mrs. with Susie Moore

Have you all jumped into the stencil craze? I am totally hooked and am in LOVE with so many of them. It is always hard to decide! But I did choose these two today: The first stencil is called Spliced Heart and the second one that I used as the background is called Moroccan Tiles. I actually only used one color of ink for this entire card. I just used a heavier hand on my blending for the darker parts. That is the beauty of stencils and our blending brushes! To finish my card I added the Mr. and Mrs. sentiment from the To The Lovely Couple stamp set. I hope you enjoyed today's card. I am always excited to share my work with you. You can see these products and so much more by visiting Picket Fence Studios today. I have linked the Picket Fence Studios products I used below if you are interested. Susie Created4Creativity

This stamp set is way cool. It's called Dad's Day, but I can think of so many reasons to use it. Today I'm sticking with the Father's Day theme that the set was created for. I was excited to stamp it on kraft card stock and add some copic coloring. It had been awhile since I colored on the kraft and I am always amazed at how cool it looks.  I used the Intense Black ink to stamp the sentiment along the side of the burger and finished off with a strip of yellow paper.    While I had the Dad's Day stamp out, I couldn't help myself and I made another card with the awesome burger stamp. I added a shaker element because, well, SEQUINS!!!   This one I added color with some ink smooshing. Once the panel was dry, I stamped the burger in Black ink. No extra coloring needed. I picked out the Margarita Mix of sequins, I loved the greens and yellow. I framed up the shaker element and added a customized sentiment by heat embossing in white and snipping out the words. Here is a closer look at the sequin and sentiment details.     Thanks for stopping by today. I wish you a fabulous week!

Blog Hop & Giveaway With My Sweet Petunia

by Lydia Fiedler on May 30 2020

Nicole here - and welcome to today’s Blog Hop with our good friends at My Sweet Petunia. I hope you enjoy the stops along the way!     When I started thinking about what type of card I wanted to create for this blog hop, I knew I wanted to use the Memory MISTI. As card makers, we all know and use the MINI and Original MISTIs on a daily or weekly basis, but I have always found that we overlook the usefulness of having an oversized stamping platform.    At Picket Fence Studios, we design a lot of oversized images, which allow for coloring with many different mediums. About a year ago, we released a series of animals holding cell phones taking selfies. These animals are perfect for die-cutting and filling up a card front.    However, I have always wanted to create a card with more than one of these selfie critters. Here enters the MEMORY MISTI. But, I didn’t want to spend a lot of time fighting with perfect positioning. So, I whipped out Gina K’s Large Wreath Builder Stencil. Now, this is another genius product for card makers.   The two images I chose were still too large and not perfect for my card design. Here enters Tonic Tim Holtz Mini Scissors. These clever little scissors have a nice serrated edge that do not slip when cutting in small tight spots. I decided to cut apart the wing of the flamingo and the paw of the sloth on these two stamp sets. You might wince and say,” I’d never!” But, you shouldn’t. There is true freedom of taking a concept to fruition. Having a separate paw and wing, allowed me to manipulate the stamps to form the perfect images that fit Gina K’s Large Wreath Builder.   As you see in the picture above, I keep my Wreath Builder Stencil taped into the Memory MISTI. (And, I believe in using a lot of tape) The piece of paper that you see taped on top of the right-hand corner in the picture allows me to stamp without a mess if I’m using a large stamp which hangs off of the card base.    After stamping the images onto my card front using Picket Fence Studios Intense Black Hybrid Ink, I used a combination of Karin Markers, Sharpie Art Pens Fine Point, Faber-Castel Pitt Pastel Pencils, and Faber-Castell Polochromos Artists’ Color Pencils to color the flamingos and sloths. (Lydia does have a coupon code for the Karin Markers on her stop on the hop today!)    Lastly, I cut a sentiment apart to fit in the space remaining on the card front. This card ended up being larger than a typical A2 card, which fit the whimsical feel of the animal selfie images. I hope you enjoy the rest of your hop.     Here are all the supplies I used today:   Today Is All About You – Picket Fence... Hi there!  Today we are getting glazy with Picket Fence Studios Paper Glaze!  There are 13 beautiful colors to choose from, plus you can mix them to create your own colors!  I mixed Agapantha Purple with Ocean Poppy and spread it over the Fleur Di Lis Stencil.  I think it would look fabulous with the Peacock Mandala Stencil too!  I am always hunting for thank you cards so I used Small Ways to Say Thank You.  Have you had the chance to check out all the sentiments included in this set?  It's an amazing set with a thank you for every occasion!       Check out the shine from the Paper Glaze!  Next up is a super fun Super Hero card!  I used the Sunburst Stencil for the rays on the yellow and red cardstock pieces. For the top blue layer, I used Snowdrop White Paper Glaze with the Stars Stencil.  Not all heroes wear capes so I used the Good Teacher Stamp and Die Bundle.  (this is on sale right now as a bundled set!)  I love this set.  The sentiments are just right for the teachers in your life! Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope you are inspired to mix some Paper Glazes!  Make sure to stop by tomorrow for a Picket Fence Studios Collaboration with prizes!     Angie

Coffee, Good To The Last Drop with Erica

by Erica Andersson-Burke on May 28 2020
Hello, fellow coffee lovers!  I’m making wild assumptions here, yes, but if coffee isn’t your choice of drink, stay for the crafting!  Currently the 2020 Spring/Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop is going on (the end date is tomorrow May 29th) and I do love my coffee! Both in the cup and on paper, lol!  I started out by stamping the Love Of Coffee Stamp on Copic friendly card stock, with the help of my MISTI and the Hybrid Black Ink. Then I coloured in some of the images with the Copics in the photo above.  I also coloured in the big cup from the Coffee Understands and then fussy cut that out.  On the background image I added some Wink Of Stella to the steam to make it sparkle. It doesn’t show overly well in the photo but it does add a little pizzazz!  To finish off the card I also stamped up the sentiment ‘good to the last drop’ from the same Coffee Understands set and then cut that out with one of the Word Bubble dies.  I layered the cup and the Word Bubble so that it looked like that cup was saying it.  The Coffee Word Die is cut out of white card stock three times and layered up, and then topped with a final one cut out of Honey Gold card stock.  A few black stitched diecut frames were added in a random pattern to break up the background and add some extra interest.  Well, that’s it from me for today! I hope you enjoyed this card. I will be back soon again, hopefully with the June AND May release.  Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica

Hello everyone! It's Ceal here to share with you today. I created a card using the A Rose stamp. To create this card I started with a navy card base and panel. I stamped the rose with embossing ink and embossed it in silver and colored it using Faber Castell Polychromos pencils. After I got it colored I wiped it with a paper towel and then placed it back in the Misti and embossed it again so it would be crisp.

Quick WaterColor Trees And Bushes Sunset Card with Erica

by Erica Andersson-Burke on May 26 2020

Hi guys!  It's Erica back on the PFS blog today. Sadly my May Release stamps are still on vacation ie somewhere in the postal system. So I thought, I'd stop in with a card I made with an older, but fabulous, new-to-me stamp: Watercolor Trees and Bushes.  I haven't used this one yet, and now I can't see why not??? It's so lovely, and you can do so many techniques with it too. I decided to indulge my current obsession, which is doing Copic coloured backgrounds.  With the chisel end of the Copic, I drew fat lines of all these colours and then blended them in to create a vibrant and vivid sunset. The bottom bit is done with just one green marker to give a bit of colour behind the hill that I stamped at the bottom. This panel was a bit bigger than the card I had planned on doing, so I trimmed it down to 5.5". The width was already 4.25". With the help of my MISTI, getting a good solid imprint with the Hybrid Black ink was easy peasy! I only added the hill and one of the tree clusters from the stamp set. I didn't want to crowd the card and also to leave space to stamp one of the sentiments from the stamp set.  Because I can never leave a card simple and as it is, I mixed up some Golden Rose Paper Glaze with water and splattered this all over the panel too. It's possible I went in a bit crazy, but gold splatters is one of my favourite details to add!  When this was all dry, I adhered it to a card base and that was it! If you don't have time to wait for the splatters to dry naturally, you can speed up the drying process by using your heat tool on it. Just make sure you do it gently and don't rush it too much or your paper will warp. Thank you so much for stopping by today! I hope you found some inspiration here with me.  Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica

Special Celebrations/Let's Pucker Up with Judy Rozema!

by Judy Rozema on May 25 2020
Before I share my card today, I want to recognize the special day that it is here today in the USA. Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the military personnel who had died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Thank you to all of our military families who have sacrificed for our freedom! It is also my mother-in-law's 90th birthday! What a milestone. And a wonderful lady! I am sending her this card just "because." On to my project: I have chosen Pucker Up for my card this week. I used Layers of Clouds Stencil for my background, and added soft sponging with Tumbled Glass DOX. I didn't want the background to overshadow the bright lemons! I stamped the sentiment to one side. Images were stamped with Black Hybrid ink and colored using Copic markers.  The lemon branch was cut out using the coordinating die. I love that it cuts the middle out too! Perfect! I added a trio of sunny lemon sequins to finish the card. Thank you for taking the time to stop by today. Hope you are healthy and staying safe! Don't forget the sale + free shipping happening through midnight tonight! Code: MEMORIAL20 You can find more of my projects at my IG account: @joy_in_a_jar or on my blog of the same name. I would love to have you as a follower on my IG account!

Ink Blending on Dark Card Stock with Mindy Eggen

by Mindy Eggen on May 20 2020

Welcome everyone! It's Mindy Eggen here with you today. I want to share with you a card I created with the new Fleur di lis Stencil and how I ink blended on dark card stock.  I started by spraying the back of my stencil with Pixie Spray. Pixie Spray is a low-tack spray adhesive so it will hold my stencil in place on my Black card stock.  Then I will ink blend on Unicorn White pigment ink with a Life Changing Blender Brush. Once I covered the area, I'm going to remove the stencil and wipe away the excess ink. After letting the pigment ink dry on the card stock, I'm going to reattach it by lining up my image. Starting from the center and working my way out, I'm going to ink blend on Salty Ocean and Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide ink. By applying the White pigment ink first, it allows these light oxide colors to show through a little more. I trimmed the panel down to 3 3/4" x 5" and attach to a white A2 card base and finish off by adding the Scripty Hello that I die cut from Silver Sparkle card stock. I hope you'll give this a try! It's almost like magic how the colors show through!  SUPPLIES
