Hello - Mophead Hydrangea

Hello, crafty friends and happy Wednesday!! Brenda here with a card today that features one of my favorite sets from the February Release that just released yesterday...the stunning Mophead Hydrangea Stamp!! I couldn't wait to color this beautiful bloom!! I began by white heat embossing the Mophead Hydrangea onto Bristol smooth cardstock. I watercolored it with Karin Brushmarker Pro markers and a damp paintbrush. Once it was dry, I trimmed the panel slightly and adhered it to an A2 white card base. For the sentiment, I die-cut "hello" from dark blue glitter cardstock once and heavyweight white cardstock three times using a die from the Double Stitched Layering Rectangle Die Set. I stacked and adhered the layers together with liquid adhesive with the top layer slightly offset, then adhered it to the front of the card. The All About the Blues Sequin Mix had the most beautiful blue hues to match  perfectly!! Thank you so much for dropping by today!! Be sure to check out the rest of the fabulous February Release!! Mixing Custom Blends with Paper Glaze - Stencilling Fun!

by Lisa Tilson on May 05 2021
Hello everyone, Lisa here today to share two cards using A Rose, some Paper Glaze, Paper Glaze Enhancer and a stencil that I love! Both cards are similar in design, but changed up a little with the sentiments. I had spare Paper Glaze that I had mixed so I couldn't let that go to waste so two background panels were created. I think both these cards would make great Wedding/Engagement cards. One would also be a great all occasion card for your stash.   I started off by taking a panel of Neenah 80lb cardstock and securing the Watercolor Brush Strokes stencil down over the top. I really love this stencil - as I think it adds a very unobtrusive background to your card. Sometimes you don't want the stencil to be the star of the show, but still have it's place on the card and that is what I think this stencil does brilliantly, especially when you use soft colours. I used three colours of Paper Glaze, but my bottom colour is a custom blend of Pink Carnation and Golden Rose. I was attempting to make a coral colour and tried mixing the two together. I wasn't sure it would be what I wanted and I was right, but what it did produce was this GORGEOUS ballet slipper blush colour (bottom 6 or so lines below). I then added some Paper Glaze Enhancer to it, to remove some of the shine and that results in a more textured matt finish. I used the Paper Glaze Enhancer with each of the glazes. So, I applied the mixed blend through the bottom of the stencil with a spatula, cleaned the spatula off and then added Pink Carnation with enhancer above it, and then Snowdrop White with enhancer above that, fading out towards the top and making sure not to have the lines stretching all the way across the card, a more unfinished finish at the top! And as I had some of the custom blend left, I cleaned off the stencil and secured it to another panel and went through the same process.   These were set aside to dry whilst I worked on my main image. I really love A Rose, and thought it would look pretty over the background. So I grabbed some Arches Hot Pressed card and stamped the image twice using Versamark Ink. I applied gold embossing powder and heat set. Both images were watercoloured with Mijello Mission Gold paints and left to dry. For my first card, I popped the rose up with foam tape and I used the Always Word Die with it's shadow die. The shadow was cut from vellum, and the word part was die cut twice from Neenah 80lb cardstock. As I wanted my gold to match the gold of the embossing powder on the rose, I smooshed my Versamark ink pad onto some scrap white cardstock, applied the gold embossing powder and heat set before die cutting the final layer from that. All my layers were then stacked together and adhered over the top. For the second card, I adhered the rose flat onto the panel and then took a strip of vellum which I prepped with an anti static bag. I stamped a greeting from More Fancy Sentiments using Versamark Ink, applied gold embossing powder and heat set. This was then placed over the rose and secured at the back of the panel with tape. Both panels were then adhered flat to a top folding notecard. And that finishes my two cards. I hope that you will try mixing your Paper Glazes - I love the sometimes unexpected blends you can create when you do this. And If you don't have time to use up your spare glaze, you can always pop it into a pot and save it for another day. Picket Fence sells spare containers for this exact reason. Thanks for joining me today. I'll be back soon with another project for you!

August Release with Michelle

Hello! It's Michelle here today, and it's release day for Picket Fence Studios! I have an eclectic bunch of cards for you today, using a variety of stamps and stencils from the August release. This first card is a simple, one layer card - I used an older circle stencil to create a spotlight in the centre of the card to highlight the beautiful songbird and the sentiment. My next card is one I will share with a friend who is a breast cancer survivor. I white embossed the Hope Ribbons stamp multiple times onto some pick cardstock (lining up the image so that is a continuous image on the card) and white embossed the image. I cut the panel and added it to a white card base, then added a layered "love ya" sentiment. I finished with a scattering of sequins. This next card is a little outside my comfort zone! I started with a piece of black cardstock and added the Evergreens stencil to add paper glazes using a foam ink blending tool. (There was some glitter stuck on my pink foam in blending tool, which added a little certain something to my card!) I added green, blue and pink to mimic the Aurora Australis (or Borealis, depending on where you live!). I finished with a white embossed sentiment. There is a video of how I made this card on the Picket Fence Studios YouTube channel! All of the products in the new release are linked below - it's a great release with such a great variety of images! I know you're going to love it! Thanks for visiting :)

Watercolour Tulips

Hello - it's Michelle here today, and I have a card to share today using the Early Tulip Bouquet stamp set.   I started by ink smooshing some Distress Oxide inks onto a piece of watercolour paper. I then stamped the main image from Early Tulip Bouquet in Picket Fence Studios Black hybrid ink, and coloured the image using Copic markers in colours to match the Distress Oxide inks.  I then stamped the Hello from Fancy Sentiments, but I masked off part of the flourishes on the word so that it would fit a bit better on the card. Have you heard? Picket Fence Studios is the Brand of the Month at Simon Says Stamp! Thanks for visiting :)

Summer Fireflies with Ceal Pritchett

by Ceal Pritchett on Jul 08 2020
hello everyone!  Since it's officially summer now the  fireflies or lightening bugs as I call them are out at night and I love watching them and even more so I love to watch my dog try to catch them.  To create my card I started with a pale aqua card base, and a white panel. I used  the Broken Fence Stencil and the Life Changing Blender Brushes to create the background. I stamped the Jar from the Fireflies on a Warm Night set on Brstol card stock and colored it with Daniel Smith Watercolors and cut it out with the Coordinating die.  I added fireflies to the jar and made "light" by using Daniel Smith Watercolors. To finish the card I added some bakers twine around the neck of the jar.

I painted the image using Distress Oxide inks in a variety of blue, pink and red colours. I added a sentiment from the Bird of Paradise Flowers stamp set white embossed onto a scrap of black cardstock. I finished with some sequins from the Gin and Tonic sequin mix.   Did you know? Grow Through What you Go Through

by Angela Bode on Apr 17 2020
Hello!  I couldn't decide what I wanted to share with you today so I am sharing two encouragement cards and one belated birthday card!   I watercolored the beautiful Ponchatoula Strawberries image and then highlighted several areas with Inktense Pencils.  This set comes with a coordinating die set which allows you to not only die-cut this large image but several smaller leaves, flowers, and berries as well!  The berries overflow the gorgeous Terranium Die in silver foil.  Lastly, I added a sentiment from the amazing Face the Sun stamp set. Next up is a fun belated birthday card.  I need more of this type of card than any other.  I am always late!  I watercolored on black cardstock for the background.  Such a fun technique!  The Wild Wildflowers was heat embossed in white and the sentiment is from Seriously, Literally, Always.  After creating several cards in a row with dark backgrounds it was time to lighten things up a bit!  I used the Leaves and Flower Stencil with LC Blender Brushes also sold in a Bundle.  The sentiment is once again from the fabulous Face the Sun set.  In conclusion, embrace the day, grow through what you go through and send out those birthday cards even if they are late!   Love ya! Hello! It's Michelle here today to share a watercolour emboss resist card I made using the Early Tulips Bouquet stamp set from Picket Fence Studios. I stamped the floral image onto watercolour cardstock with Versamark ink and white embossed it. I then added scribbles of red, orange, emerald green and olive green watercolour markers (I used Zig markers) and then sprayed the panel with water. I dried the panel with a heat tool before adding more colour and repeating the process. When I came to the background, I added the deep blue and the aqua colour, but I used a waterbrush to spread the colour instead of spraying with water, beecause I didn't want to risk the colours bleeding where I didn't want them to and ending up with a murky brown mess! Thanks for visiting :)

Sassy BFF Maggie Mae cards with Erica

by Erica Andersson-Burke on Jan 21 2020
Hi guys!  Welcome back to the Picket Fence Studios Blog, it’s Erica here with a couple of very CAS cards. These are not my forte at all, but I am working on it and they are coming *slightly* easier these days. I still feel like they are a bit naked and need something but basically sit on my hands to stop myself from adding more stuff to them. It’s weird but it works, lol! On water colour paper I stamped up BFF Maggie Mae with the Hybrid Black ink and set it with my heat tool a little bit. I do this especially when I am going to use lighter water colours or Copics. For this card I have used Daniel Smith water colours.  The colouring itself of Maggie Mae is pretty easy breezy, and not to detailed. I added light colours and in the areas where I wanted more contrast and details, I have added more of the same colour or a slightly darker one. I didn’t want to go too vivid for this one.  When she was all done and dry, I used the coordinating diecut to cut her out and set her aside while I stamped up a card base. I wanted to use the sentiments from Seriously, Literally, Always because they are so sassy and funny.  Using the Hybrid Black ink again, I stamped them up directly onto the card base. I was only going to make one but while I had my Mini MISTI out and card bases ready, I decided to do one more. This is the SUPER Clean And Simple one. I am in two minds about it. It’s funny and to the point but I do think it needs a bit of colour or something more.  The BFF Maggie Mae image I glued down directly onto one of the card bases and with that the cards were done. So easy but how funny is that?  I love how it turned out with the softer colours on Maggie Mae too. Maybe I will try one with more vivid colours next time though. Just to compare. As long as it’s fun, why not, right?  Well, that’s it from me for today. Thanks for stopping by and spending this time with me, I hope this post inspired you.  Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica
