Holly Jolly Mercury Glass Technique with Rachelle

Hello and welcome to Picket Fence Studios' "25 Days of Christmas"! It's Rachelle here today with some crafting inspiration and I'd like to share a new technique with you that mimics the look of mercury glass! I was experimenting with the Paper Glaze Enhancer in combination with some of the Paper Glitz colors and while you should NOT mix Glitz & Enhancer together into a single blended product, I did try using them separately on top of each other and came up with something that really resembles one of my favorite finishes - antique mercury glass. The Paper Glaze Enhancer is a soft, matte lightweight paste (resembling spackling compound in texture) and dries to a semi-transparent dull finish when used on its own. I though that I might be able to accent some areas by applying "Sparkle" Paper Glitz on top of the stenciled areas and when it was all dry, some of the areas of the Paper Glitz highlighted the Enhancer and some of it seemed to melt into the kraft background with a mirror effect! The photo can't quite capture it but believe me this looks so cool in real life! I just applied a thin coat of each product using the Slim Line "Changes" Stencil and set it aside to dry. It was trimmed down to 3.75" x 5" and adhered to a top-folding A2 card base. The leaf and berry cluster from the "Holly Jolly Christmas" Stamp Set was stamped/heat embossed with clear powder, watercolored and die cut. The wonderful sentiment from the "Winter Has Come To Town" Stamp Set was heat embossed and die cut.  I looped some silver thread into a bunch, taped it together and adhered it to the stenciled panel. The holly image was popped up with foam tape and the sentiment strip was glued into place. I added pink and matte gold sequins (from The Pink Lady Sequins Mix) to finish up the card. I hope you'll give this look a try and I'd love to see you share what you come up with over on the Picket Fence Studios' Community Facebook Page!  Thanks so much for stopping by today and take care - Rachelle

Iconic Beauty Kiara - Masked Ink Blending with Rachelle

by Rachelle Oltean on Nov 24 2021
Hello everyone! It's Rachelle with you today and I've got some ink blending & masking tips for you! I created several masks, which I used to color in this NEW "Iconic Beauty Kiara" image and it's all done with the small, fine "Life Changing Blender Brushes" and Distress Oxide Inks! I first inked up the "Kiara" image on a piece of scrap paper using my MISTI to create my main template. I then drew in the basic shape of her face and some of the main shadow plains/contours to get an idea how I was going to shape her face. After I was happy with the sketch, I copied this onto a piece of tracing paper, redrew the lines on the backside and then transferred the images onto different pieces of paper. I needed these images: 1) a full mask for the entire figure 2) the face 3) the shirt. Here's a picture of what these masks looked like: I hand cut omits for the face & shirt using my craft knife and fussy cut the full-image mask using small scissors. I stamped the Kiara image onto an A2 panel and placed the full-image mask on top. I used Salty Ocean as an overall background color and then ink blended Prize Ribbon and Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxide Inks through the "Flowers" Stencil to create my background pattern. The shirt was blended using one of the small round brushes with "Kitsch Flamingo" DOI and then I colored the face with several additional Distress Oxide Inks. I did paint a very fine line of eye shadow ("Salty Ocean") along her lid line but that was the only brushwork on this piece. To deepen the image post ink blending, I placed her back into my MISTI and re-stamped to sharpen the edges. That's a real advantage when using a MISTI! I trimmed the image down to 4" x 5.25" and adhered it to a top-folding A2 card front. The heat-embossed sentiment strip was glued to the top panel and I added a couple of gems from the NEW "Celebration Gem Mix" to finish up the card. She is such a beautiful image and I love how all of the Design Team Members found different ways/techniques to color her! Be sure to head over the Picket Fence Studios Shop to check out all of the AMAZING Black Friday Deals and Door Busters taking place right now! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Rachelle

Hello! I am continuing my series of cards using the Zodiac Girl stamps. This month's release is Aquarius girl, and it you look closely at her hair, it seemed obvious to me what colour it had to be! The card base is acetate, so I cut 4 pieces of cardstock with the coordinating die - one (#1) to stamp and colour in to go on the front of the card, one (#2) to go inside the front of the card to hid the adhesive from the front of the card, one  (#3) for inside the card to write a message on, and one (#4) on the back of the card to hid the adhesive from the 3rd piece.  Hello!  Larisa here and today I'm sharing two holiday cards featuring the NEW A Wreath for all Seasons Stamp!  This beautiful stamp is the perfect addition to your cards and it's so versatile! For my first card, I started with a black piece of cardstock and trimmed it to fit an A2 sized card.  Then I stamped out my image and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder.  On top of that I added a strip of black and white patterned paper from my stash.  After stamping and coloring up Beautiful Girl Jill, I die cut her out using the coordinating die and added her to the left of my card with some foam tape.  I also tucked a bit of iridescent twine behind her for added texture.  A few sequins and a "Merry Christmas" sentiment finish this card off!   For my next card, I chose some fun and whimsical colors to work with on this vertical design.  I stamped my image out in teal ink on light blue card stock.  Then I trimmed it to fit my card base.  Then I die cut and paper pieced my little gnome adding some detail with Copic Markers.  Across the bottom, I combined two different stamped sentiments in two different colors to add some interest to my card. A few sequins and a fuzzy pom pom on my gnomes had finish this fun little card.   Products Used: Beautiful Girl Jill Stamp Beautiful Girl Jill Coordinating Die A Wreath for all Seasons Stamp Sequin Mix Plus - Crafty Friends Fancy Christmas Sentiments Fancy Christmas Sentiments Coordinating Die Billy the Gnome Die A Gnome Christmas Hugs Enclosed Thanks so much for stopping by!  Happy Crafting!

Coffee Is The Answer with Erica

by Erica Andersson-Burke on Nov 02 2021
Hello my crafty coffee lovers!  It's Erica back on the Picket Fence Studios blog today, with a very caffeinated card! I have used so many of the fun new coffee themed goodies on this one.  First off, I have stamped the Down To The Last Cup stamp twice in a row on a panel in a light grey ink. This was done with the help of the MISTI, which is such a helpful tool with these fab seamless stamps. You can cover the whole panel with the stamp by repositioning it over and over, but for this card I did only a row of them, which left a white border on each side of the images. On top of this I then stamped the Iconic Beauty Sara stamp with Black Hybrid ink, again with the help of a MISTI, to get a solid imprint. She's been decorated with some of the gems from the Coffee Beans sequin mix. The coffee beans in this mix are so fun but I'm hoarding those!  My panel was then adhered to a coffee coloured card base and of course I had to used the Coffee Is The Answer word topper die! I have cut the Coffee Is The Answer word topper die out of back card stock and also another piece of black card stock that had some Black Pansy and Golden Rose Paper Glaze on it. This added a fun effect on the letters! A bit like crema on a good cup of espresso.  This card is based on one I made earlier, that you might have seen. I used the same supplies for this one, minus the Coffee Beans sequins, and on this one I did cover the entire card base with the Down To The Last Cup stamp. I also added some details to Iconic Beauty Sara by colouring in her hair flower and giving her a luscious lip colour.  The Coffee Is the Answer word topper die was cut out of white, red and black card stock, and all layered up! I also used the Word Topper Subtitles stamp set to add ´what was the question?´ to the sentiment.  I love this bold, graphic look and was so pleased with how the cards came out!  With that, I'm all done for today, but I really hope you like the cards and will try something like this yourself! It is great fun experimenting with your supplies and see what kind of look you can get with them.  Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica

Hello!  Larisa here and today, I'm sharing a fun little tag I made using the If You've Got It Haunt It (currently on sale!) and Triple Trouble Stamp Sets!   To create my tag, I die cut the smallest scalloped rectangle in deep purple card stock.  Then I trimmed a piece of white card stock to fit inside.  I stamped out my sentiments and my bats.  Then I stamped and colored my witch image.  After cutting her out, I added her to the center of the tag along with some gold thread.  At the top of the tag, I punched a hole and added some orange ribbon.   This tag is quick and easy to make and perfect for added a fun and whimsical touch to your Halloween Treats!  Thanks so much for stopping by!  Happy Crafting! With Sympathy - The Cards We Never Want To Make

by Lisa Tilson on Oct 20 2021
Hello there, Lisa here today to share a sympathy card with you. These are the cards that we never want to make. I actually find it easier to have a few ready on hand to send out, then at least I am not struggling to do it when the need arises. For sympathy cards, I often keep my colours muted, or at last keep the card really simple. I never feel it's the time for a lot of clutter or "noise" on a card. I started by taking a panel of 80lb white cardstock and securing the Slim Line Changes Stencil to it (from behind) with low tack tape. Then, using Life Changing Blending Brushes, I blended Cracked Pistachio, Tumbled Glass, Twisted Citron and Salvaged Patina Distress Oxides randomly through the stencil. I removed the stencil and cleaned it off. Next I took the Slim Line Oversized With Sympathy Word Die and die cut it from Lawn Fawn Mermaid cardstock. The shadow was die cut from vellum. I adhered the die cut sentiment to the vellum using tiny dabs of wet adhesive so that they wouldn't be visible and then I set it aside to dry. I put an acrylic block on it to make sure it was really stuck down tightly. You could even add extra layers of the word die if you want, to give the card a little bit more dimension. Next, for a bit of extra interest, I took the Leaves For Flowers stamp set and stamped a selection of the leaves onto vellum using Versamark Ink. I then applied white detail embossing powder before heat setting. They were then cut out with the coordinating dies. I trimmed the stencilled panel down slightly and adhered it to an A2 top folding horizontal base card using wet adhesive.  I then added tiny bits of adhesive onto the back of the vellum and adhered that down over the centre. I put some glue onto the little leaves and placed those around the sentiment. It is definitely possible to use this slim line word die on an A2 card. I just trimmed off the excess from the sides and I like how it was the focal point. I hope that this gives you some inspiration for a clean and simple sympathy card. Until next time, happy crafting!

Thinking of You Shaker Card with Karen Reategui

by Karen Reategui on Oct 07 2021
Hello crafty friends! Today I'm sharing the shaker card featuring the Torch Ginger Tropical Flower Stamp and Die, More Fancy Sentiments Stamp and Dies, Center Flower 6x6 Stencil, Silver Bells Paper Glitz and Iridescent Moonshine Sequin Mix.   Let's begin! I started by placing the Flower 6x6 Stencil on top of an A2 panel and applied Silver Bells Paper Glitz using the Mixed Media Spatulas. I removed the stencil and let this panel dry for about 20 minutes.     Once the panel was dry, I added a card base at the back using glue. Next, I die cut a frame using two rectangles dies out of peach cardstock. Additionally, I die cut a piece of acetate and adhered it to the back of the frame using double sided tape. This way I created the window for the shaker.      Next, I poured the Iridescent Moonshine Sequin Mix on top of the background created with the Silver Bells Paper Glitz. I also adhered foam tape around the window of the shaker, removed the backing paper and placed it on top of the background to close the shaker window.       Torch Ginger Tropical Flower Stamp was stamped using Gingerbread Wood Hybrid ink from Scrapbook.com and I colored the image using Copic markers. I die cut this image using the matching die and placed it on top of the shaker background.     Finally, my sentiment from More Fancy Sentiments Stamp was stamped using Black Hybrid ink pad and then it was die cut using the coordinating die. I placed the sentiment at the lower part of the card and it was finished.   I really hope you enjoyed this card and give it a try. Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day. One Set, Two Ways!

by Larisa Hohman on Oct 06 2021
Hello!  Larisa here and today, I'm sharing two very different cards using the same stamp set: Winter Has Come To Town.   I love to stretch my supplies and come up with creative ways to use them!  Today, I'm showing you how to use one set two ways!  For my first card, I stamped out the village scene using black ink.  Then I colored it up using Copics.  For the sky, I added some distress inks and then popped up my sentiment with foam tape.  A pretty simple card that packs a colorful punch!   For my second card, I stamped the village scene again, but this time, I used light grey ink.  Then I stamped out my sentiment using red ink and used a black pen to add some shadows.  I paired the NEW Winter Scene Building People to my scene and colored them up with Copics.  A bit of foam tape, helps them stand out in the scene.  Then I layered the whole thing on some dark green card stock.   I just love that both of the cards use the same stamp set, but look so different!  Thanks so much for stopping by!     Products Used: Winter Has Come To Town Winter Scene Building People Winter Scene Building People Coordinating Die Black Hybrid Ink

Northern Lights Magic with Paper Glaze Lux

by Rachelle Oltean on Sep 22 2021

Hello Crafters! It's Rachelle here and I've got a special card to share with you today: an easy CAS design featuring a background created with a brand new product from Picket Fence Studios...the Paper Glaze Lux Ombre "Nutcracker Ballet"!  Paper Glaze Lux is a mixed media glitter-based art medium, which blends heavy body mica with a glitter infusion, providing a MAXIMUM level of shine and thickness in a spreadable glitter glaze. Your application thickness allows you to determine the opacity level and so I experimented with painting a small, diluted amount directly onto black card stock and achieved a 'Northern Lights' Effect! You can see the base color of the pearly mica pigment body and the highlighted areas of glittery shine where the Lux was a bit thicker with color "C" from this Ombre collection! I was so excited with the result and this literally took me less than 5 minutes to create! After the Paper Glaze Lux panel was dry, I trimmed it down to 3.75" x 5" and attached it to the center of a top-folding A2 black card base. Using the "Santa's Snowy Hills" Die , I cut a panel from aqua card stock and trimmed off some of the silhouette, leaving a scattering of pine trees and the single house in the distance. This panel was cut to fit the width of the card front and adhered on top.  A sloped panel was cut to size from white card stock and the sentiment (from the "Winter Has Come To Town" Stamp Set) was stamped using my MISTI. I glued the small stamped/colored/die cut figure of the man carrying home his prize Christmas tree (from the "Winter Scene Building People") onto the sentiment panel, which was attached into place on the card front. A few "Spring Fling" Sequins finished up this clean-and-simple card! This design will be so easy to mass-produce and the effect of that painted Paper Glaze Lux is stunning in real life! I encourage you to stretch all of your Paper Glaze products by using them as painting mediums! Happy crafting and have a great day! Rachelle ♥

Seamless Designs Stamps

by Sandi MacIver on Sep 10 2021
Hey cardmaking friends welcome back.  It's Sandi MacIver here and today I'm playing with Picket Fence Studios Seamless Designs Stamps.  Yesterday I pulled out some Seamless stamps and had a good look at them.  I'm totally amazed at how versatile they are.  I kind of hate when I spend money on a stamp set that I only use once, don't you?  Not so with these little guys and let me take a few minutes to explain why. Today I'm going to share a couple of cards I created with these Seamless Designs Stamps.  At the same time, tell you why I like them so much. Size of the Picket Fence Studios Seamless Designs Stamps: Don't be fooled by the size of these little guys.  They may be small at just over 3.5" square - but they are mighty. As they are small, they also come in at a nice low price point.  For a small investment, you get a HUGE return. Yesterday I created two A2 sized cards with two of these stamps: First way I like to use the Seamless Designs Collection: The first is this absolutely stunning Roses for All Seasons stamp and I created a simple A2 sized card with a small art piece on the front. I used a Misti to stamp the image in black and then heat embossed it in clear onto watercolor paper. Next, I colored it with my Karin watercolor pens. Unfortunately, we require a few sympathy cards so I used the Prayers Word Topper Die on this one. TIP - I could also change out the card front to the bright pink envelope color, change the sentiment die to Happy Birthday and completely change the feel of this card. Creating the Sentiment: Normally I would cut these word topper dies 3 or 4 times and stack them before adding them to my cards. Today, I cut one from a scrap of brown I had in my scrap bin, and gold heat embossed two layers onto it. The gold embossing really builds up and I have this beautiful sturdy sentiment which I glued across the bottom front of my art piece. Understated, but adds the perfect amount of bling.   My Second Card in the A2 Size: My second card is created the same as the first, just with a different stamp.  This one is new out in August called A Medley of Fall Collage. The image is stamped once  and colored with Karin Markers. The Happy Fall Y'all Sentiment was created in the same manner as above.   So, why are these called Seamless Designs Stamps? Because you can use your Misti or other stamping tool, and you can repeat stamp these little guys to create a larger stamped surface. Their edge illustration is created to line up with the illustration on the opposite side for "seamless continuous stamping". (cool or what). The Second Way I used the Seamless Designs Stamps: This Slimline Pumpkin card shows how I lined up the All the Gourds Seamless Stamp and stamped horizontally across the card stock three times to create my Slimline Card front.     Here's another example using the More Hot Chicks Seamless Stamp.  Again, stamped three times horizontally, colored and made into a slimline card with the PFS slimline dies. There is a video for this card here. You can stamp Seamless the other way too: Not only do these stamps line up horizontally, but the illustration also lines up vertically.   The Third Way I like to use the Seamless Designs Stamps: In the card sample above, I used my Misti to stamp the image three times vertically to create an understated background for my card. Lining up the stamp to continue the repeat is very easy, as there are little pieces of the image you use to overlap for the continuous stamped image. You can get the details for this card here: Here is another vertical stamped example where I used the creepy Marching Spiders Seamless Designs Stamp to create the background for my Halloween card. Card Details here:   The Fourth Way I like to use the Seamless Designs Stamp: You can stamp it twice horizontally, then move up and stamp twice vertically to create an entire A2 sized card front. TIP - you can also stamp vertically twice to create a background for a Mini Slimline Card, and I'll do one of those shortly as well.   Where to get Seamless Designs Stamps. Picket Fence Studios introduced these these to me and you can see their collection here.  Storing the Seamless Designs Collection Stamps: As I said in the beginning, these little guys are small.  So, they take up a very little bit of space, unlike some of the HUGE slimline stamps I have purchased recently. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my slimline stamps and dies LOL, I just had to adjust my storage to compensate the tall storage.     I subscribe to the Jennifer McGuire storage system of Fridge Bins (I order mine from Amazon), and these little guys fit perfectly in the 6" x 10" bins  Thanks so much for stopping in and I hope you enjoyed today's cards.  Give a Seamless Designs Stamp a try and then come on over to the Picket Fence Studios Facebook Group and share it with us. Winter Floral with Rachelle

by Rachelle Oltean on Sep 01 2021
Happy Wednesday! It's Rachelle with you today and can you believe it's September 1st already??? I had to look at the calendar twice just to be sure it was correct and that means it's time to get rolling on Christmas and holiday cards right now! The recent Picket Fence Studios' releases have been full of wonderful new products to get our Christmas crafting off on the right foot! I send out quite a few cards to folks who don't celebrate Christmas and the card today is the perfect way to share a bit of general winter and/or holiday cheer! I used the NEW "A Christmas Flower" Stamp Set to create this winter floral card design. I began with an A2 panel of 110# Neenah Solar White card stock and using my MISTI, I aligned the poinsettia image in the top left corner of the panel bleeding off the edge. I stamped this image using Picket Fence Studios "Black Hybrid Ink"  and then turned the panel 180 degrees and stamped it again so that the image appeared in opposite corners.  I watercolored the poinsettias, spattered the panels with diluted paints and then added a graduated blue wash around the flowers for a bit of depth. I went back into the images with a tiny paint brush (a 000) and using my gold paint, added touches of fine detail throughout; this panel was trimmed to 3.75" x 5". I heat embossed the sentiment from the "A Happy Winter To You" Stamp Set with fine gold powder onto heavy-weight vellum, trimmed it to size and wrapped it around the floral panel, securing it behind. This was attached to an A2 top-folding black card base and I added a few matte gold sequins from the NEW "Pumpkin Cookies" Sequin Mix Plus to finish up the card! I just love the sprinkling of gold on this design and those gorgeous poinsettias are the star of the show! There are so many different ways to color this beautiful image and be sure to check out Picket Fence Studios' Instagram Page where you'll find great design inspiration! Thanks so much for joining me today and happy crafting! Rachelle

Scene Cards with Larisa

by Larisa Hohman on Aug 25 2021
Hello, Larisa here and today I'm sharing a couple of scene cards featuring the New Release!   For my first card, I paired the NEW Lots of Christmas Cheer Stamp Set with the NEW Slim Line Our Town Cover Plate Die.  To begin, I started with the Scallop Frames Slim Line Die Cutting System and used it to cut a piece of white card stock and a red scalloped piece to mat behind it.  Using my Life Changing Blender Brushes, I added some blue distress ink to the background.  Then I die cut a piece of black card stock with the Our Town Cover Plate Die.  I adhered that to the center of my background piece.  Then I tore a piece of white card stock and added that just under the town to mimic the look of snow.  I stamped out the grouped animal image, colored it using Copic Markers and cut it out using the coordinating die.  Using foam tape, I added it to the right side of the card.  On the left side, I stamped my sentiment in black ink.  For the final touch, I added several tiny snowflakes from the NEW Santa Is Here Slim Line Die Cutting System Insert.   My next card is a fun little back-to-school scene that features two of the little cuties from the NEW Your Next Book Dear Stamp Set.  To create this card, I stamped out the NEW Medley of Fall Collage Stamp in red ink on orange paper.  Then I trimmed that into a square.  Across the bottom, I added a skinny piece of grey card stock.  On top of that some die cut grass.  Then I stamped out my images, colored them up with Copics, and cut them out using the coordinating dies.  I used foam tape to add them to my scene and stamped my sentiment just below.   Thank you so much for stopping by!  Happy Crafting! Non Traditional Colors for a Fall Shaker Card

by Karen Reategui on Aug 23 2021

Hello crafty friends! I'm so happy to be back and today I'm sharing with all of you one of the cards that I made at the 7 in 7 event. This is a Fall shaker card with non traditional colors featuring the Medley of Fall Collage stamp part of the Seamless Collection. I started this card, that looks like a mini slimline card, by stamping the images using Gingerbread Hybrid ink from Scrapbook.com over watercolor paper. For this technique I also used a Misti.      Then, I colored all images with teals, greens and browns shades. I fabulous and quick way to color a background with lots of images is using Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers and a watercolor brush.     Once I finished watercoloring, I trimmed down this panel and additionally I cut another panel a bit larger but this time out of Neenah Desert Storm. I placed this panel behind the watercolor panel and added a bit of washi tape on each side to secure both panel because I run these through my die cutting machine using the small circle frame die from the Scallop Frames Slim Line Die Cutting System.         Once I had the shaker window created I took off the washi tape and then I adhered a piece of acetate to the back of the watercolor panel. I placed back the larger panel and used glue to adhered both panels.  Also, I added foam tape all around the back of these panels, removed the backing paper and placed the Pumpkins Cookies Embellishment Plus Mixes on top of my cad base. Next, I closed the shaker window and the shaker was created!     As a final touch, I die cut using again the small circle frame die from the Scallop Frames Slim Line Die Cutting System out of a teal cardstock and added it around the shaker window. Last, I stamp my sentiment using Autumn Fancy Sentiments stamp and placed it under the shaker and this card was finished!   I really hope you enjoyed this card and for those who attended the 7 in 7 event thank you so much for all your support, we had so much fun! Also for the ones who couldn't join my class at this event, you can check out the replay where I show you how to make this and one more card, link here.  Below you will find the list of supplies that I used to create this Fall shaker card. Have a fantastic week, your friend, Karen
