A Birthday Cupcake for You

Hi friends!

Colleen here today sharing a bold and festive birthday card featuring the new Wreath Builder: Cupcakes for You stamp, Purple Rain glaze, Spring Mix sequins, and Polka Dot Palooza fabulous foil sheets! Also used are the existing Tree Bark stencil and Another Hello There die.

I wanted to use the mini cupcakes in a playful way, so I decided to create a large bold sentiment stamp where I could place the cupcakes strategically! So, first step was to choose the sentiment. I used Another Hello There die from a recent release and die cut it on the Polka Dot Palooza foil sheets. I foiled the mini sized polka dots in silver!  After I die cut the sentiment, I set the remainder of the polka dot sheet aside for later.

Next, I stamped 3 of the mini cupcakes from Wreath Builder: Cupcakes for You, in Black Hybrid ink and colored them with my alcohol markers. I fussy cut each one and set those aside with the sentiment for later.

Now it was time to work on the backdrop that would complement my sentiment and cupcakes!  I used masking tape to tape off the edges of a white card panel, forming a rectangle shape in the middle. I ink blended the middle of the card panel in shades of purple and then applied the Purple Rain glaze over the ink using Tree Bark stencil. I removed the masking tape and set it aside to dry. I love all that white space surrounding the bold color!

TIP: To prevent your card panel from tearing, press the masking tape onto your shirt or arm 3 or 4 times to remove some of the stickiness. And tear slowly!

Once the glaze was dried, I trimmed the card panel and placed it over a slightly larger black card panel. Then I adhered both layers over the remaining polka dot foiled sheet I had used earlier for my sentiment (I had die cut the sentiment in the middle of the sheet deliberately so I could use the remaining piece). I placed the Hello sentiment over the purple backdrop, deliberately adhering the letters unevenly to create an interesting effect. I stamped Happy Birthday from the cupcake stamp set and placed that over the two letter L's. Then I added the cupcakes in a triangle around the sentiment! The cupcakes were adhered with foam tape squares. I finished with sequins from the new Spring sequin mix!

I love the boldness of the backdrop and the playful polka dots on the sentiment! The cupcakes were just as I imagined, framing the sentiment perfectly! Thanks for stopping by today!
