Hello everyone! Bonnie here from Bonniecarollee Makes Cards. There’s A Feeling of Christmas is the perfect stamp for creating multiple cards quickly and easily. It may seem like the holiday season is a long time coming but, in no time at all, it will soon be upon us! I love having a stamp set ready for making quick, last minute cards and for creating multiples. This wonderful sketched cityscape on an easy inked background fits the bill!

I began by creating the background on white card stock that was slightly larger than an A2 sized panel so that it could be trimmed down later. Although I experimented with four different colour palettes, for mass producing I would settle on one combination and create multiple panels. The backgrounds were inked with Distress Oxide inks. To apply the ink, the pad was held at a slight angle and the edge dragged, not the flat side of the pad, from one side of the panel to the other.  After applying each of the colours once, they were applied a second and sometimes a third time overlapping the colours where they met. Super fast!

The panels were left to dry before stamping but, because the ink is not solid, it only took about 15 minutes.   The cityscape and sentiment were stamped using a stamping platform two to three times with Picket Fence Studios Black Hybrid Ink and clear embossed. The panels were spattered with slightly watered-down gouache.

To help the buildings stand out from one another, a few, not all, were coloured wth Copic markers.  The two cars in the foreground were also coloured. For a couple of buildings where the sketching does not end with a defined roofline, the Copic colourless blender was used to soften the colour's edge. The following outlines the Distress Oxide Ink combos for each panel and the Copic markers used for colouring:

  • Tumbled Glass, Picked Raspberry, Dried Marigold, Chipped Sapphire with RV23, R11
  • Unchartered Mariner, Dusty Concord, Shaded Lilac, Chipped Sapphire with BV23, 20
  • Wilted Violet, Picked Raspberry, Uncharted Mariner  with BV13, YR02
  • Wilted Violet, Candied Apple, Chipped Sapphire with RV34, V22

The panels were trimmed down to card front size, 4” by 5 1/4 “. They were mounted on A2 sized card bases matted in black card stock.  The sentiments were highlighted with blue sequins from the Winter Night Sequin Mix.
