The Christmas Chronicles: Alexandra's Tales and Traditions from Canada

Meet the Maker: Alexandra from Canada

Hello everyone! Alexandra here to share the latest post in the Christmas Chronicles blog series. I am from British Columbia, Canada where I have lived all my life. I live in one of the suburbs outside of Vancouver city which you might know from when we hosted the 2010 winter Olympics!

The project: Handmade Holiday Joy from Canada

Snowy weather is my favourite part of winter, so I decided to create a fun winter scene on my card. I modified the Cheers Word Topper die by cutting off the “S” at the end so I could have my card say “Sending Holiday Cheer”.

Words and Wishes: Canadian Holiday Greetings

I live in a very multicultural area so Happy Holidays is probably the most common greeting used. But Merry Christmas, Season’s Greetings, and even Feliz Navidad are often heard this time of year.

Cultural Cuisine: A Taste of Canada’s Holiday Traditions

One of the few specifically Canadian desserts was actually invented in British Columbia! The Nanaimo Bar was invented in Nanaimo (surprise!) which is a city on Vancouver Island. The Nanaimo bar is a three layer no bake dessert which is often served around the Holiday season. Let me know down in the comments if you have ever had a Nanaimo Bar!

Nanaimo bars are fairly easy to make at home and I’ve made them myself a few times. I used this recipe to make a vegan version last time and it turned out wonderfully.

Top tip: before cutting the Nanaimo Bars, run your knife under hot water. This way it glides through the chocolate coating instead of cracking it!
