Hello everyone! Bonnie here from BONNIECAROLLEE MAKES CARDS. Do you love the look of water colour but find it intimidating? I have an easy stamping technique that works beautifully with Mophead Hydrangea for the ‘look’ without the stress! A stamping platform, water based markers and a fine water sprayer are needed.  I have tried this technique with several brands of markers and found Tombows work the best. The marker end is long and 'not a brush' which facilitates getting good ink coverage on the stamp.

  • Tombow colours were chosen for each card.  I used 3 to 4 colours for each card in blues, green and purple.
  • An oversized panel, about 5.5” square, of Bristol Smooth card stock was placed in the Misti along with the Mophead Hydrangea stamp. Water colour paper does not work well with this technique but Bristol Smooth with its ability to accept some moisture without pilling is perfect.
  • The marker is held almost parallel to the stamp and the side of the marker tip is pulled across the stamp. The stamp is spritzed with water for the first stamping so the entire stamp can be inked at once.
  • After the stamping, a water brush pen is used to pull any additional colour on the image.  The impression will lose its definition but no worries.  This first step can be repeated multiple times until the look you want is achieved.  The panel is left to dry.

  • For the final stamping, water will not be applied to stamp.  Ink up smaller areas and stamp. Continue until the image is defined.
  • Paper Glitz Golden Sparkle was watered down slightly and the panels spattered using a fan brush.
  • The panels were trimmed to 4” by 5.25” and adhered to a gold foil matted, A2 sized black card base in landscape orientation.

  • The die cut sentiments from Mini Slim Line Full Front Shaker were cut from both gold foil and black card stock. The black sentiment was offset on the gold one.
  • For the purple/blue card the stamped/gold embossed sentiment is from All Those Beautiful Candles. The wording around BIRTHDAY was masked with Post It Note Tape.
  • The sentiment was highlighted with gold foil, stacked die cut hearts also from Mini Slim Line Full Front Shaker.
