Blog Hop & Giveaway With My Sweet Petunia

Nicole here - and welcome to today’s Blog Hop with our good friends at My Sweet Petunia. I hope you enjoy the stops along the way!

When I started thinking about what type of card I wanted to create for this blog hop, I knew I wanted to use the Memory MISTI. As card makers, we all know and use the MINI and Original MISTIs on a daily or weekly basis, but I have always found that we overlook the usefulness of having an oversized stamping platform.

At Picket Fence Studios, we design a lot of oversized images, which allow for coloring with many different mediums. About a year ago, we released a series of animals holding cell phones taking selfies. These animals are perfect for die-cutting and filling up a card front.

However, I have always wanted to create a card with more than one of these selfie critters. Here enters the MEMORY MISTI. But, I didn’t want to spend a lot of time fighting with perfect positioning. So, I whipped out Gina K’s Large Wreath Builder Stencil. Now, this is another genius product for card makers.

The two images I chose were still too large and not perfect for my card design. Here enters Tonic Tim Holtz Mini Scissors. These clever little scissors have a nice serrated edge that do not slip when cutting in small tight spots. I decided to cut apart the wing of the flamingo and the paw of the sloth on these two stamp sets. You might wince and say,” I’d never!” But, you shouldn’t. There is true freedom of taking a concept to fruition. Having a separate paw and wing, allowed me to manipulate the stamps to form the perfect images that fit Gina K’s Large Wreath Builder.

As you see in the picture above, I keep my Wreath Builder Stencil taped into the Memory MISTI. (And, I believe in using a lot of tape) The piece of paper that you see taped on top of the right-hand corner in the picture allows me to stamp without a mess if I’m using a large stamp which hangs off of the card base.

After stamping the images onto my card front using Picket Fence Studios Intense Black Hybrid Ink, I used a combination of Karin MarkersSharpie Art Pens Fine PointFaber-Castel Pitt Pastel Pencils, and Faber-Castell Polochromos Artists’ Color Pencils to color the flamingos and sloths. (Lydia does have a coupon code for the Karin Markers on her stop on the hop today!)

Lastly, I cut a sentiment apart to fit in the space remaining on the card front. This card ended up being larger than a typical A2 card, which fit the whimsical feel of the animal selfie images. I hope you enjoy the rest of your hop.
