Need a masculine themed card? How to make a Rustic Wood Background!

Susan here on the blog today with two cards – one a more masculine or gender neutral version and the other is definitely more feminine. For the focal point I used the Weathering the Storm sentiment set which has three very useful sentiments. The background for the first card was inspired by a rustic wood ceiling that I saw on Fixer Upper.

It was easy to make using wood grain paper and our Life Changing Blender Brushes. I have a You Tube tutorial linked below.

In a nutshell, I cut strips of wood grain paper and distressed the strips with various shades of Distress Ink or Distress Oxide Ink using the blender brushes. I also crimped a piece of speckled paper using my paper crimper. I distressed this also with the same inks.

For the feminine version, I made a background by stamping our Rose Bouquet set in a light grey ink onto a Neenah Solar white panel. I then stamped the sentiment onto a peachy pink card stock and added some clear droplets.

Thank you for stopping by and have a great day!

Supplies Used: I am using compensated affiliate links at no further cost to you. I received the stamp set as part of my design team work.

Susan, I love the weathered planks you created on this card! It’s funny how our inspiration can come from all sorts of places and you recreated the wood pieces beautifully. Nice stamp set that I missed somehow. I put this one on my wishlist, thanks for showcasing!

I really like your rustic wood grain strips. I was hoping to get a set of the blending brushes for Christmas but it didn’t happen. If my pocketbook ever recuperates from Christmas I am definitely getting some. I too have problems ink blending and am looking for something that will help.
