This is Susan and I am up on the blog today with a card featuring our Let’s Shake Our Tail Feathers stamp set. I think this is one of the most versatile stamps sets that we have so I wanted to use this design by Jennifer McGuire. It is a gate fold card design in which she uses stamped images to make the “gate”. I wanted to use our peacock feathers to make the “gate” for this card. I used a belly band made from vellum to keep the card together.
I did have to change up the card dimensions from what Jennifer used. The card dimensions are:
5 1/8″ x 5 1/8″ for the inside card and grey backing sheet
5 1/4 x 5 1/4 for the purple base
First, I stamped the image twice onto a warm grey card stock (4.25″ x 5.5″) with Versamark ink. I heat embossed the image with white embossing powder. Then, I used the two smallest blender brushes and blended in Peacock Feathers, Wilted Violet and Shaded Lilac Distress Oxides.
I then used the A2 Curved Edge die to cut the card stock into the shape you see in the image. You could also use a circle die and do some partial die cutting if you do not have this curved border die. After lining everything up, I scored the image on the back and adhered it to the gray backing sheet using score-tape. Once both flaps were in place, I placed the final purple backer on using regular dry adhesive.
I took a piece of 1″ vellum and stamped the sentiment in Wilted Violet Distress Oxide and used clear embossing powder to give it a polished look. I then laid it over the card and scored it on either side. I folded the belly band around to the back and adhered just the two ends together. Now the recipient can slide off the belly band and open the card inside. Next time I try this, I will make a video. I just did not have this time this week.
