Birthday Whale

Birthday Whale

Almost 16 years ago, I saw my first whale.  I have been in love with them ever since. We were in Hawaii,  in the winter time, and the whales were everywhere. They are fascinating to watch. The coolest thing ever was when my husband and I were on our way back from our scuba diving trip and the boat captain had to cut the engines while a mama and her calf were swimming nearby. They swam under and around our boat for 30-40 minutes. So amazing.

The set, A Dose of Vitamin Sea was one of the first sets I had to have. I stamped the sweet whale with the Black Hybrid ink and then used my copics to color him up. I fussy cut him out, but guess what??? You don’t have to. There are now matching dies for the large whales in this set. Order the dies HERE.

I set the whale aside and got busy on the background. I first white heat embossed the A Bottomless Sea stamp set and then did some ink smooshing with Distress inks. The bubbly ocean waters resisted the ink for the cool background technique. I took a paper town and removed any remaining ink from the bubbles. Have you seen the new large sentiment that were released the other week. I inked up the Happy Happy Happy Birthday set in Black Hybrid ink.

To complete my card, I scattered some Happy Day sequins and I added a sweet little birthday banner from Cup Cake Love for the whale to hold. I love it.

I can’t wait to send this off for the next birthday, which just so happens to be my son’s birthday. He was with us during the Hawaii trip 16 years ago. He was only 1!
